Are the first 2 words Ar-Adunakhor but I don't know the rest Wink Smilie
Let's try a T
Yes, we have an O for Tommie; four E's for Maydmarion; and four A's and three Ts for Valedhelgwath. Happy Elf Smilie

So now it reads:

A _ - A _ _ _ A _ _ O _ / T A _ E _ / T _ E / _ _ E _ T _ E
Sorry, there have been no wrong answers. Elf Winking Smilie

Maydmarion: Only one letter at a time unless you guess the whole puzzle please. Animated Wink Smilie
This one is hard. I?
I'll try for an H.
Sorry Grondy - Sad Smilie

Ar-Adunakhor Takes The Sceptre - is this the full answer ?
Maydmarion now has the full answer and gets to a new game. Happy Elf Smilie

You beat me to it once again, Val.

I'll just try for my usual O then.
And for me an E please.

(This time I'll try to keep up ... too busy ... Wary Smilie )
Are there any L's ??
Could there be an S?

Heorogar stole my E!! Well done, Heorogar. Good choice.

I?
A?
N ?

(Val is supposed to be at sea this week and only returned today because of rough coastal waters, so if he is slow to respond over the next few days, it only means he had to return to duty gathering data and collaring unsportsmanlike professional fishers.)
How about a U please Val, Lord of the English seas? Elf Winking Smilie
Very nicely put, Grondy. I'll know what to tell people now when they ask me what I do. As you can probably tell, it's still too windy here to take the boat out, so for the time being I'm doing day trips, walking out from the shore.

Anyway, back to business....

No O's for Tommie
No E for Heorogar
One L for Maydmarion
No S for Stoney
One I for Loni
One A for RobbinWood
Two N's for Grondy
One U for Elfie

That cannot leave a lot

_ A _ NIN _ UL
Well, Tolkien started some of his words with F, so I'll ask for one of those please.
Hmmm. Perhaps there's an R?
I'd like a D please, Val, if there's one.
Is the answer Karningul ?
If wrong then G
Marion, what IS Karningul? I feel ashamed. It's not often I hear a Tolkien term that I have never heard in my life.

It's another name for Rivendell - I don't know anything much, I just like to read through books and if you've seen any of my other threads, I ask a lot of question - everyone at PT seems to know so much and are so helpful. Only started reading LOTR about 3 years ago. I'm just starting to read UT - have read TH and LOTR (5 times) and TS.

Haven't you noticed how everything in LOTR seems to have more than one name Wink Smilie

That's because of all the different languages in use during the epic. Most everyone speaks Westron (common speech) of the Men and then there is Quenya and Sindarin of the Elves, the hobbits, Ents, Dwarves, Orcs and Trolls all have their own languages. And the Men also have their regional languages like that of the Rohirrim.

Each of these has their own word for an object or concept and of course the fact that Tolkien was a linguist and wordmaster gave him ample opportunity to use his creative genius in making his made up words fit the languages of various peoples. I think I rambled here, but as we are waiting for Val, why not?
Sorry... I've been at sea for a couple of days.

Yes, Maydmarion has it with Karningul, another name for Rivendell. All yours Maydmarion.
OK here goes Waving Hello Smilie
