The flying Nazguls would have taken them out Smile Smilie

Or Sauron, they did have to creep in to destroy the ring.
Brilliant idea! Would have been an awfully short and dull book though Big Smile Smilie Also, maybe nobody trusted the Eagles with the ring in the first place, and maybe it would have been a bit difficult for a huge Eagle to get through Sammath Naur in to the cracks of doom?
Nice though, welcome seyoungahn, good to have you here.
Not like IJ? What about the bit where Frodo dives under the closing stone door, then reaches back and grabs his hat before it closes? What about that eh????
I don't like adventure films too much. Tarzan stuff = *puke Smile Smilie

No, never trust a bird, for it only has bird brains! :P
And Tolkien said the book is already too short, so cutting the journey of Frodo and co to Mordor and having the eagles to drop the Ring into the fire would be ridiculous, right? :P
if the bird brains are too small, gandalf could have easily gone on gwaihir's back and dropped it in to the mountain himself.
but Gandalf wouldn't have taken the ring in the first place...and I think it's beyond anybody's power to willingly drop the ring into the mountain...it took Gollum's falling in to get it there
Welcome to the forum 42 and I think you are right. Smile Smilie

Did I miss that too? If I did, I missed PJ's tribute to Indy Jones. Did he throw in any Hitchcockian scenes as well? Big Smile Smilie[Edited on 22/1/2002 by Grondmaster]
hmm...I missed that part too...not that I'm ever really good at catching things Big Smile Smilie
Hey Grond - yes Hitchcock - the Birsds!!!!
Oook! Big Smile Smilie
What closing stone door, anyway? Mines of Moria door? I don't recall Frodo going back to catch his head... Frodo doesn't have a hat!! :o Presume twas a little joke... Smile Smilie

I still don't see any solution in the birds thing. As someone said: it would have taken a lot of courage from anyone to throw the thing in. Ooooh!!! The solution: Bombabil on the back of an eagle, throwing the ring in! Cos the power of the Ring doesn't grow on him!!! Big Smile Smilie Big Smile Smilie Big Smile Smilie

Well if you forgot there was.......ummm a HUGE battle going on at the time. The actions of frodo and Sam led up to this. If the eagles just flew there then Sauron or the Nazgul on their winged deamons might have opposed them. Also the story would be to short.
It's already too short, what would have been if the eagles had thrown the Ring in from the start?? Good point, Longbow, good point. Big Smile Smilie
