What about Katherine Jenkins, beautiful, voice of an angel and was good in the Doctor Who xmas special. And she is about the right age, not too young but still with a great beauty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPDQrTg4RDI[/quote:sfnf3t9z] Well if you want a good actress and an excellent singer, I couldn't name anyone better. But.. why not have a great actress and a great singer! I'd say me, and if my heavenly voice doesn't impress Pj, Emma Shapplin! Wouldn't mind Katherine Jenkins though, she was lovely in the Dr Who special!
I was watching Brad Pitt in Meet Joe Black recently, (sorry Jolly Cotton, i'm not touting him for a part). His love interest in that movie 'Claire Forlani' - has a very elvish look about her. I Can't decide if she's beautiful enough for Luthien but she is very lovely. As it happens, she is married to Dougray Scott, who I was thinking about for Bard in The Hobbit, but perhaps this husband and wife team could be our Beren & Luthien?
Well, she's prettier than me hail! I'll be honest and say I don't know much about her; but looking at her on google images, I agree she does have that elvish look about her! Mature, but still looking beautiful (that's Luthien all over really). Haven't heard of Dougray Scott, but I'm not going to say anything to offend my love to Brad Pitt!
Dougray is a Scottish actor and I guess he might be best known for his part as the main baddie in Mission Impossible 2. I think he was in Desperate Housewives as well (although I couldn't possibly be sure about that!)
I would have been 10 then...and I wasn't the biggest cinema going child! No, I like Hail manwe, don't watch Desperate Houswives....
I don't watch Desperate Housewives either. I'm afraid it might be a bit too close to home:Jane
I don't watch Desperate Housewives either. I'm afraid it might be a bit too close to home:Jane [/quote:3ve6ayew] You must have an exciting life; all the trailers I've seen involve affairs, cars blowing up, buildings blowing up, FBI arresting their husbands, kissing under office desks, murder, theft, all women being bitches...! (I know what you mean, though I don't do any housework! Hooray for adults!)
Don't you mean, "Hooray for [i:1fbd3ncw]Mums[/i:1fbd3ncw]," Ally? As for "Desperate Housewives", things are far slower in my neighbourhood:-Jane
Don't you mean, "Hooray for [i:3lj7s7ho]Mums[/i:3lj7s7ho]," Ally? As for "Desperate Housewives", things are far slower in my neighbourhood:-Jane [/quote:3lj7s7ho] Um yes! Hooray for Mums! (Though Dads are generally better for playing sport on the beach!)
I don't mean to sound crabbity, Ally, but I'm the sporty one in my house. Dan loves his x-box and sport-on-TV mostly - though in his defense, he does the dishes (badly) and mows lawns, and even brings the washing in at a pinch. Actually, Henry is playing Call of Duty with him at the moment, which gives me the opportunity to stay on The Hobbit Forum longer than I normally would, so I mustn't complain too much:-Jane
I think for Beren it should be someone athletic rather than muscle bound. Beren had to live many years as a hunted man in the wilds he would be more likely to be athletic. A fast runner, a good climber (as his climbing of the mountains later indicates), a strong swimmer. And the manner in which he conducts his (often reckless) one man assulats on orc camps would imply someone quick and quiet as well as deadly, but not some huge muscled fighter.
Agreed , I think a lean and very fit Beren is required! I think Dougray (among others) fits in with this. He also has a 'haggard?' sort of look, a man who has climbed a few trees in his time.
Bear Grylls for Beren Now, that's a guy who has climbed a few trees!
Forget Grylls- what about Ray Mears?!
An excellent choice, Ally, but I'm afraid Mr. Mears doesn't meet the requirement "Lean and fit" He is no less than a bear of a man himself though, perhaps Mears for Beorn?
Someone haggardly handsome and very athletic, but who polishes up nicely would be my choice. I just can't think of the right actor. Musclebound doesn't do it for me though:-Jane By the way, is Jolly Cotton actually Ally? Ally, I thought you were just borrowing Jolly's spot here now and then? Have I missed something? :?
"I think Dougray"- HailManwe I'm starting to suspect you are his agent Hail!
I'm so glad that this thread has been revisited! My story has not been forgotten!!! I've still been mulling this over in my mind, and this is 100% on my list of things I'll be filming in my film career, that I can promise you!!! And I've become an accomplished actress lately, so I COULD play myself! But it's been quite a long time since I've sang (since my minstrel got jealous and left :/) so that could be lacking.... but i still think Collin Ferrell should play Beren
The more I think about Beren and Luthien, the more I think how great a movie it could be.
The more I think about Beren and Luthien, the more I think how great a movie it could be.[/quote:6x334t8v] Less of this negative talk! You should be thinking it terms of will be, not could be!
I agree, Ally! I am already giving thought to Luthien's dresses. My research goes on! With a female character who is genuinely the [i:3cxaiiej]main[/i:3cxaiiej] character, we will need to get that right as a start. Her clothes must perfectly reflect a Woman's innate and natural strength, intelligence, magic and beauty inside and out - as clothing always should. Oh, and of course they must be a smorgasboard for the eye, that goes without saying. :-Jane
The most daunting thing about Luthien though is that she's such a fantastic character that bringing her to the screen might lessen it. That's my biggest fear. I wouldn't want to not do her the justice she deserves.
Well I think that it will largely depend on how well the role is researched by the chosen actor Tinuviel. Someone like yourself who has a passion for Tolkiens works would be able to get deeply into it, and bring the necessary elements of the character to the screen - as opposed to a 'big named' star who may look to impose their own personality on Luthien. The director here will certainly have their work cut out. :? As for the costumes, dresses etc. I think the same will apply, the designer will have to realise that what they are doing will have profound consequences on screen and must be prepared to be guided by Tolkiens instructions (which are clear enough) and not their own fancies! :x As with the Hobbit and LotR, the instruction manual is already there, please (whoever you are) use it!
That's why I feel that this would be something best done by people like us; a group of Tolkien enthusiasts who want to make something that is true to the story but made new in a film. We could just write a script and send it to those people who made Born of hope or The Hunt for Gollum. I'm sure they'd be willing. (((( Would they be???)))))
((((probably not-sadly)) Which is why Tin we are relying on you to be one of the next generations best and most influtential film makers- then Odo and I can tell you why you've done it all wrong after years of you struggling to get it made!

it seems great to see a movie about The Silmarillion. But so far it's only a dream. But I think there is ever a movie will come.
I mean everyone has so many ideas that if we all succeed together was not such a good movie. Only for a couple of years.

Perhaps one day Arwen. I think it will be fiendishly difficult, but someone will start a movie series of the Silmarillion. I just hope its someone with Tolkien sensibilities. My choice for the best scene would be the dance of Luthien at the throne of Morgoth with Beren in wolf guise.

If people really seriously think about a movie of the Silmarillion, we must write a letter to Tolkien asking if he would give us right to make a movie.
Then we can think further about how we want to do.

Well, I assume Christopher Tolkien is meant, as JRRT passed on in the early 1970s.

And I don't think Christopher Tolkien would sell the rights to the Silmarillion; and if Adam Tolkien, his younger son, agrees (that is, if my opinion is correct here of course), fans might have quite a long wait for the rights!

maybe you're right but I just dream of a movie of the Silmarillion
