Having not yet seen PJ's version of Gollum

I may be on completely the wrong track here, but wasn't Gollum in FotR? And I thought that he was very cool and very like what I had imagined him to be. At least he doesn't die in the next one Halo! Animated Wink Smilie

I reckon it beats the hell out of the cute green guy from the Rankin/Bass cartoons. And I like the Crypt Keeper look (thanks for reminding me of him, I'm off to dig out my videos now! Smile Smilie) But I thought it was pretty close to what I've always imagined, which ain't far off Alan Lee's depiction of Gollum in his picture of the Morannon.
i agree, gollum does resemble the crept keeper a little, but i loved the crept keeper, so i dont think its all that bad. just think gollum is starving and old, so he might just look like an old skeleton anyway. but thats just my opinion. but i invision gollum looking a little different so i can see where your going with this. i see him as having a little more flesh and not so bony. but that was a very interesting thougth, justin.
Stuwest3: Welcome to the forum.

Having not yet seen PJ's version of Gollum, due to Taz's trailer being cut short, I would say that any simularity between the crypt keeper and my mind's eye vision of Gollum is entirely nonexistant. That isn't to say my mind is made up to hate PJ's Gollum, I just don't see Goillum as looking lich-like; he should look very much alive, but very very old.
I like PJ's Gollum, he looks real-ish.
Shame he dies in the end though Very Sad Smilie
42: If there was a visual of him during any of Gandalf's Bag End or Rivendell speeches in the movie I don't remember it. However, as I only saw the movie once, that isn't saying much because everything moved by so fast that it was hard to it all take in. Sad Smilie

Supposedly Gollum is shown at the end of the TTT trailer, but not in Taz's version as it probably got trimmed for being excessively long, requiring too much bandwidth. Smile Smilie
Gollum turned up allover the place in the Fotr Movie, you saw him creeping round Moria, and there was a bit of him being tortured by Sauron, and I think we got to see him find the ring as well. But I also have only seen it once, but Gollum was there, looking just like Alan Lee always does him, right.
Hey folks I am finaly back after a slightly longer stay in the hospital then I anticipated. Anyway "GLAD TO BE BACK"! Anyway I like the way that Gollum looks in the photo's and in the way that PJ seems to have developed him all things considered. After all he is a 500 yr. old ring bearing freak who eats raw fish and thinks living in the bottom of a mountain without sunlight is better then anything except his "precissios". He is supposed to be both horrifying and pittiful. We have to remember that Tolkien wanted the reader to feel real pity for what called " a creature no longer capable of thinking of anything but the one ring" and willing to do anything to get it back. Gollum is the perfect example of what happens when any person becomes a slave to the ring for to long. He is slimey, evil, sneaky, and a back stabber.
Hey, welcome back jgpoole; hope you are recovered and can stay out of the hospital in the future. Those places are inhospitable as they usually don't provide internet access. Smile Smilie

Sounds like I need to see the movie again. Come on August and December. (No real need to rush though, I've got a lot of living to do between now and then.) Animated Wink Smilie
Thanks Grond! Anyway back to the backstabing ugly good for nothing fish eating ground crawling child eating lying Smeagul. Think about what Tolkien was trying to incorporate into the charater! Everything thing that the ring represented in a phisical since was Gollum. He had possesed longer then any human possibly even longer then the "Dark Lord" himself. Tolkien was trying to let the reader see just how evil the ring was and what it represented. He gave us that in the opposite representation of Frodo as he develops a relationship with Gollum on the trail to destroy it. We are not supposed to like him just recoginize him for what he is. I personally hate him and everything about him. I remember the first time I read the books and I wished so hard that Faramir would kill him when he had the chance, because I knew nothing good would come of him. But yet even Smeagul gets his chance at redemption.
