Oy get back to the topic the guy has completly recked the book and your talking about smilies. We should be talking about putting a price on the mans head, I think we should start a fund. Alot of you will probobly disagree with me as you only watch the films. However all the hardcore Silmarillion lot should be with me. The guys a complete YRCH
I do disagree, Ross, and it's certainly not because I haven't read the books.

You say PJ "recked" the book. How so? I'm sure every copy that's being sold today is just the same as the ones sold BEFORE the movies were even in pre-production. The only difference is that MANY more people are buying and reading them.

I'm assuming that the "putting a price on the mans head" thing was a joke. I mean, why put a hit out on someone based on a work of artistic expression? (Salman Rushdie?)

Which brings me to my next point. The film version is just exactly that, an INTERPRETATION of the books. I'm sure if YOU were to make a film that fit precisely with YOUR idea of what a LotR movie should be, many, many people would disagree with you and be joking about putting a price on YOUR head.

Granted, there are a number of things that obviously deviate from Tolkien cannon. I think there have been enough theories and, indeed, explainations from the film makers themselves (Keep in mind, PJ is only one man behind this film...there were many others involved) that I don't need to recount them all here.

And finally, to all those who believe that the film, thus far, is an abomination and a curse unto humanity, I have a simple solution to your pain and suffering ...DON'T WATCH IT!!

Alright Ross, I can see now what I'm dealing with and that there is no point in trying to debate the issue with you. Good luck in your smear campaign, my friend.

I have only watched the film once and i will never watch it again.

Then if it is an interpretation it should actually follow the book, not add made up scenes and drop real ones.

It's not like the gender if the elf who fights the Nazgul really matters!

It's nothing to do with the gender of the elf. It's to do with if they have ever seen the light of the trees.

These are just some of the uninformed qoutes i would like to correct.
Can I once again bring to people's attention the couple of words in the opening credits "BASED ON" as in, not following exactly, as that would be a sucky movie.
Many fantastic Movies are nothing like the books they are based on, take Bladerunner, and Philip K. Dick's "Do androids Dream of electric Sheep?" and David Lynches complete and utter re-working of Dune. Great Movie, nothing like the book, but a great movie nonetheless.
In Mr. Jackson's defence, for bringing us some really great movies before this, he is absolved of any sins. Also, for introducing an absolute s***load of new fans to Tolkien (After all, how many kids do you know who'll read somthing that ISN'T a movie yet?) he deserves our thanks and rapturous applause. And for making a really nice looking version of Middle Earth for us to watch on a screen, yet more thanks.
You must realise that there will NEVER EVER EVER be a movie version of this (or any other) book that is the same, different media, doesn't translate, and you wouldn't get the box office money to fund the thing. If you really want a word perfect, boring bits kept in, movie, I suggest you make it yourself.
Please do not reply to this post with another "But I hate the movie and it sucks and I hate Peter Jackson cos he's a c**ks***er" post, as I'm not trying to argue with you, you're entitled to your opinion as much as I am mine. I was unimpressed by a lot of the movie myself. I'm just saying, look at it from another point of view dude. And don't get so uptight.
I agree entirely!
Go Plastic Squirrel!!!
(Sorry Ross)
I agree Plastic. There were parts of the movie that I really loved and parts that I didn't. But I agree with your comments completly.
