Have you ever done anything like that before?
If you have PLEASE,PLEASE tell me! I hope I`m not the only one.
I haven't watched the movie everyday, but like several other members here, I spend an average of four hours a day logged into Planet Tolkien. If I've been away for a few days and have a bit of catching up to do, I'll spend ten or more hours in here.

Oh, and welcome to Planet Tolkien, by the way. I hope you get as much enjoyment here as I do.

Actually, as embarassing as it might be, I watch FotR everyday, too. Since I got it for xmas last week, I have watched it for at least three hours everyday Ha Ha Ha Smilie
On top of that, I usually end up falling asleep everynight watching it. Fast Asleep Smilie
Fortunatly, I have a TV and DVD player in my room, so I don't have to share with anyone Disturbed Smilie
It's good to know that I'm not the only one. Big Smile Smilie
I'm definately guilty of watching LotR a LOT. I can probably quote all of the movie (which gets annoying for anyone else watching it with me) and since my friend got the extended DVD and we've watched it over and over, i'm getting pretty close to reciting the commentary, which is dangerously funny when the hobbits are talking. Oh, and eabisme, you are too lucky to have a TV and DVD player in your room. If that was me, i'd never go to sleep!
How many times total have you seen FOTR? Big Smile Smilie
Heeeeyyy, It's Ranger Stonehelm now,cool!
Congrats, Stonehelm.

I have only gotten to watch the FOTR movie, 2 times. My family would not let me, and then my hubby loaned it to a friend of his. Unfortunately, we only have one working dvd play and I couldn't watch it as much as I wanted to, because the dvd player is in the living room. I can't wait to get the movie back. I wanna see it again.
Well Ranger Stonehelm, I`ve seen it 27 times since Christmas! Big Laugh Smilie How about you? Cool Smilie
Shery my friend: I think I can say without a doubt, you own the record for number of times since Christmas and maybe even since the DVD's came out in November and August. Happy Elf Smilie You are the Geekiest of the Tolkien Movie Watchers. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
LOL this seemed alittle bit freaky to me sheryl, but i to watch LoTR ALOT and on my brothers PS2 and i usually watch it covered in a quilt my gram made....and shery is really close to my last name lol Big Smile Smilie
you are sick you all need professionel help!!!!!!!
I mean it!! go on!
I not watching it to many times, in fear of getting tired of it.
But i love it!
When I am not in Planet Tolkien I am playing the lord of the rings PC game, and when I'm not at it, I'm watching the movie.
haha And why am i sick boring?
Because i heard this rumour that there is more in the world than Tolkien

I belive that there is much more in the world than just Tolkien, but there is nothing so important as Tolkien Wink Smilie

I do belive your right!

I've seen FOTR 8 times and TTT 2 times
Boring, I don`t need help, I need to see it again and again and I also need to see TTT again because I`ve only seen it once!
I can`t wait for the DVD to come out!! Big Smile Smilie
Then I can watch TTT evryday!! Big Laugh Smilie
I might be a LOTR geek and there`s nothing wrong with that! Well actually I`m not a geek! I`m justa really big fan of LOTR!! Me and some of my mates my mum looks after are doing reviews on the film FOTR! They`re all going on my wall. Big Laugh Smilie

No Sheryl you need to read the book, go and read the book. The book you need to read, the book is waiting for you to read it. Do you see the subtle hint in my post Sheryl?
Geekhood does not set in 'till you have read all the books at least twice.
The movie is great but isn´t this just a little bit crazy? Scrolling Eyes Smilie
No Wink Smilie
I'm the last person on earth who would do such a thing. I wouldn't even do it for all the money in the world, since i am a purist.

Pheeeeew... I'm not a geek then. But I'm going to be, I'm sure. Don't know whether this is good or bad, but anyway. Smile Smilie
Geek and proud! lol. Big Laugh Smilie
I must be an Uber Geek as I've read both the Lord of the Rings and The silmarillion well over eighteen times each, that many I've lost count.
But just remeber.

The Geek shall inherit the earth!
Ultra Geekhood comes next. You have to... have seen the movie at least 3 times, spoken in Elvish, and written in runes. Big Smile Smilie

U mean Bush is a geek, Ross ? Smoke Smilie
Which Bush, the band, the herb or the president's?

I`ll read all your replys properly tomorrow. then I`ll reply to them all k. Big Smile Smilie
Hang on I'm deffinately a Tolkien geek yet I've only seen each movie once, well apart from the one from the eighties.
Only once? Shocked Smilie

Any other Ultra Geeks out there??
How can you only see it once!! I`ve seen it so many times I`ve lost count and I wore out a DVD in one month and a day! Big Laugh Smilie A bit sad you`re prabaly thinking, but I love the film! Wink Smilie I can`t wait to see ROTK!! Big Smile Smilie
It depends on what you mean by ultra geek. I am learning how to speak Elven. Have you heard the frase: you`re ugly and your mum dresses you funny. It sounds really wierd in Elvish. I`ve read FOTR script. I`ve read lots of things on LOTR. Oh, and I`ve also read TTT script. I can`t remember if there`s an ROTK script on there. I`ll have to check it out, if I have the time. (Bogged down in homework at the moment! I`m not very happy about it, I hate homework!!) Mad Smilie
I`m reading FOTR at the moment and it is so, so, so, so much different from the film! What book did PJ read? He defineately wasn`t reading LOTR! Mad Smilie It doesn`t make me feel mad, it just makes me feel annoyed! There wasn`t a part in the book where it mentions Gandalf, going to that place where he finds out about the one ring. It`s like he just knows in the book, but I think it was good of PJ to add that to the film, because it showed you where he foud out and how he found out. Big Smile Smilie I think it`s better than just leaving it. Don`t you think? You`ll probably hear moans and groans as I slowly go through each stage of the book. Big Laugh Smilie Well see you later......
That is exactly why I have only seen them Once, seeing them make me want to commit mindlesss acts of violence towards a certain director, this is the meaning of a true purist!

There are many bits that PJ added to the film which were not mentioned by Tolkien somewhere in his writings, Sheryl, but this is not one of them. If you read Appendix B in the back of RotK, you will find in the Chronology of the Third Age under the year 3017...
Quote:
Gandalf visits Minas Tirith and reads the scroll of Isildur.
PJ in my opinion has read Tolkien's works (not just LotR) extensively and has added many details from the Silmarillion and UT that go unmentioned in LotR itself, or are perhaps only there in the appendices. I agree, PJ has fabricated many scenes, but there are also many in there which you will not find just by reading FotR chapter by chapter, but you will find when you search Tolkien's works more extensively.
I dont think PJ has read UT as his Gondorian archers didn't have steel bows!

That my boy, is because they were from Lothlórian and as such were all using copies of the bow Galadriel gave to Legalamb.

I think you and I need to resolve an issue here, Ross. Now, I'm not at all trying to be critical and I realize that I may be misunderstanding you. Or not.

But when you use terms like "true purist", I feel as though you are suggesting that people who've read (and loved) the books should hate the films with the same spite and malice as you. And that if we like the films... even a little bit... then we are somehow betraying Tolkien and his novel.

Tell me, is this what you are saying? Am I over-analyzing here?

Please, don't take this the wrong way. I fully respect your opinion of the movies at this point. PJ and co. couldn't possibly please everyone. Just please don't think that your zealous attitude means you have a greater love, appreciation and/or understanding of the books than I do, simply because I liked the movies and you didn't.

If I've misunderstood you, then I apologize.
No it's ok Prog it's just, consider me an Orthidox fan and you're an Unorthidox fan!
Okay, nobody gets to be a better fan by liking or not liking the movies, just so long as nobody who considers themselves a tolkgeek says "But they didn't change anything and they just filmed the book" which is a blatant lie. You can like both, it's not a sin, they're very different things, but you can be just as big a fan and like both (and even the Bakshi movie and Rankin/Bass if you like). Otherwise you are like the Trek fans who claim all other sci-fi is rubbish and ripped off, and the Star Wars fans who laugh at the Trek fans and call them geeks, simply because Trek stayed very cultish and is never going to be cool and mainstream like Star Wars.
Oh and something else I've always wanted to say, claiming that the Sil is your favourite Tolkien book if it isn't does not make you seem more of a pure Tolkien fan, it makes you like the man who fills his bookshelves with literature (shakespeare, Austen, Eliot, Wordsworth, Blake etc. etc.) and never reads them, just shows them to his friends. I know none of us here are guilty of this particular sin, as all those here who claim it is their favourite seem to have more than enough evidence to prove your point. I have just come across it as one-upmanship in other places before, and found it laughable (yeah, I prefer a lengthy boring historical document better than a beautifully crafted tale of danger and questing and swords and battles and sweeping you along with the momentum type thing. Okay some people do. Smile Smilie)

Please can we not do the "My Dad's bigger than your Dad" thing with Tolkien. And stick with the "purist" description, which I think works perfectly well for fans like Ross. Though I get your joke perfectly Ross, others with no knowledge of religions may think it less funny.

And Prog, I think you're over-analysing.
Of course I dont think any of you are less of fans than me, as I've said before if we're all sad enough to spend hours at a time trawling this web site we must be real fans.

Come on it is my favourite book, also I would never have some of that Shite on my shelves!
I just have to say that personally I have seen FotR exactly 47times and I am still not tired of it.... I am going to see it tonight too to be honest! Big Laugh Smilie So just you call me a geek I don´t care....I´d rather be peaceful and read my books and watch my movies than be a twit who does nothing but hang around and do something they ACTUALLY don´t like doing. And by the way I would rather fantasies about living in Tolkien´s world than being in this dull world!
hahahhaha Big Laugh Smilie
