still... Arwen bigger than Sam? Bigger than Gollum? Bigger than FRODO???
Offcourse she will have a bigger part in TTT then in FOTR.

She has to bring Anduril to Vigo doesn't she? And she has to fight off some orcs offcourse and some lovely scenes with Aragorn for a bit off romance

(I'm merely speculating as always in fact i know very little)
Yeah, that is pretty bad, but I think it's because they're going to make the whole Aragorn/kingship thing a huge part of TTT, and supposedly she has a lot to do with his inspiration to want to be king, etc...
But that's still no excuse...
Exploding Head Smilie
I think Arwen on the TTT poster has more to do with "Hollywood" or advertising than anything else. Pretty faces sell.

Of course, we true Tolkien-ites are justly outraged.

If this were true, Orli would be on it too....

Orli Question Smilie Sorry, Swampfaye, but you lost me. Elf Confused Smilie

Please elaborate, even if it highlights my ignorance. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
Orlando Bloom, AKA Legolas.

It also has to do with star power. Liv Tyler is an A list star where as Mr. Bloom is a mere newbie. Although, you would think after the positive reaction to his roll in FotR they would have included him on the poster as well.

Bah! Salesmen! What can you do?
Second thing:
Merry and Pippin-Why aren't they on the poster?I think they are important for the storyline-now why did they drop them?

Swampfaye: If you look below Aragorn's head on the TT Poster, you wil find Legolas and his bow standing next to Sam the Stouthearted. Cool Elf Smilie

Because they aren't as cute, and if they put the entire cast on the poster, it would be too cluttered and there would be no room for all the credits hiding at the bottom of the poster. Elf Winking Smilie

I'm outta here for the day, because my Sunday's almost over, and I'm too popped to poop. See you sometime on my Monday afternoon. Shocked Elf Smilie

But without the pretty faces selling the movie, Newline wouldn't get the money to fund the movies and we'd never get to see our favourite books on the big screen, and we'd be even more outraged, so maybe we should all just stop whining for once?
*is not getting anywhere near personal, but is p*ssed right off with people slagging off the movies today*

boy, get out that magnifying glass! I can hardly see either of the aforementioned (with the exception of Aragorn)
Swampfaye: This Link should take you to a larger picture where you can also see a tiny Gollum on the other side of Sam from Legolas.

I rather liked the poster. (its now my desktop!) Would of liked a bigger shot of Legolas though. (duh) Not sure why Arwen is there also. Serching Smilie
I am guessing that Arwen will play an even bigger part in TTT than she did in FOTR.
I think your speculation is going to be true!! Wink Smilie
so why not put a huge Eowyn on the poster? Everyone knows she's the prominent female in TTT anyway!
I am still mad at how they gave Arawen such a big part yet in the book she was a minor character. Sorry a lesser character, for those of you who consider her a a semi-big character.

But if PJ didn't expand Arwen's role, then all the giggling non-book-reading teeny-boppers would never go see the movies and we would never get to see LOTR: TTT, let alone LOTR: ROTK. Legolas and pretty-boy Frodo just couldn't carry it off by themselves.
I think that implies that teenage boys are giggling... I don't think Arwen / Liv tyler is there to get giggling Girls to watch - I really don't. And if BLoom and Wood can't carry a bunch of giggling girls -- what possible addition can Tyler possibly make? She's NOT a sex symbol - she's not even a "brat pack" actress (she not even all that great an actress...) I think PJ must have a crush...

Without the addition Arwen / Liv Tyler there can be no high-lighted love story, and we giggling boys just seldom, if ever, go to the movies to see a love story, it is not our cup of tea. We would rather have our tankard filled with pillage, rape, and plunder. Elf Sticking Tounge Out Smilie
I really don't like the poster - I could have done a better job and still included Merry and Pippin! Perhaps they won't be playing as big a part in the movie as they did in the book. Mad Smilie
The poster kinda looks lilke they were trying to create the illusion of an extra tower out of the actors' faces - why, I don't know.
I have mixed feelings about the extension of Arwen's role, because although the movie will probably be brilliant by any standards Big Smile Smilie I'm slightly apprehensive as to whether PJ's embelishment of the Arwen/Aragorn thing will be an interesting, new addition to the story (which is in part taken from the appendices) or if it'll just be a cheap hollywood romance gimmick to get greater numbers in the cinemas. Paranoid Smilie
You know that poster of the four hobbits? THAT was an excellent poster. Why couldn't they just pic a scene - (like maybe Frodo Sam and Gollum) and make it a POSTER? Those always look better than the original...
Okay, if you don't like the official poster, check out these alternatives:

I think it's providing an element of romance to give it that chick-flick appeal. Someone for the giggling girls to relate to. Making Out Smilie

Well, I agree she's not a GREAT actress on par, for instance, with someone like Cate Blanchett. But I certainly wouldn't call her a bad actress either. In fact, I would call her above average, especially in this film. The controversy over her increased roll aside (which never really bothered me as much as it did....does...some), I think she's an excellent Arwen. Her features are, at the risk of sounding corny, the epitome of elven beauty. Happy Elf Smilie And, you must admit, she did en excellent job speking those Quenya lines. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

Still, getting back on topic, I agree to an extent. While I can see them putting her on the poster, I don't see the reasoning behind making her one of the largest faces on it. I think it misrepresents her roll in the film, which I don't think will be quite as large as everyone fears.
Hey, what do ya think of these? Big Smile Smilie

How 'bout that bottom one? Shocked Elf Smilie
Prog: Those are the same ones in the link I added nine minutes earlier. We think alike then, but I like the top one better as it leaves out the ladies. Cool Elf Smilie
Oops! Ignore Smilie
Well, to add my bit here: I like the official movie poster best, after having seen the others. Without Arwen on it it would have been better, of course, but hey, she does play a rather important role in the film, so let the girl have a place on the poster, right? And if Gandalf wouldn't be on it, it would have been perfect, cos it spoils the whole surprise of seeing him back again. But then he's also on the trailer and he would have to be cut out there as well. Big Smile Smilie
they could have stuck to the book - why put Arwen in at all - Eowyn is enough love interest/ tension for the story. And we already know about Gandalf, so why not put him on the poster... in EVERY trailer, he's there as Gandalf the white. I don't see how it's a spoiler - and if it's Aragorns story, okay, put ARwen on it - but those who have read teh book know it's not Aragorns story - it's a HOBBITS TALE. It just happens that ARagorn figures in it prominently... Let ARagorn and Arwen have their turn in RETURN OF THE KING - since that is more their story than TWO TOWERS...

anyway, I'm still gripy - probably will be until after the movie. I'm bloody sick of Liv Tyler - don't think she "added" anything to the movie - and thought she was a **** poor elf, at that... but oh well...

(Excuse me, merely an insignificant language infraction.)

Arwen has become a product of the whole Hollywood thing where a movie has to have a strong love story(it kinda sucks that they r not faithful to the book in this situation) . In TTT there will also be this triangle between Aragorn, Eowyn and Arwen and it kinda gives me a stomach ache...but what can you do? PJ has his reasons and I guess he decided to create a strong love story behind the whole thing.

As for the movie poster...hmmm...i like the one with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli...it just looks better to me.
Sheesh. Take a pill.
My major gripe about the poster is the absence of Merry and Pippin...I hope that the love story won't drag so much that it cut out the two hobbits' adventures.
