All That is Gold Does Not Glitter

I know that this is about Aragorn but what if Tolkien was a whisky drinker?

All that is gold does not glitter, = there are nice looking whiskies that are rubbish eg blended whisky.[/size:1ilqopn3]
Not all those who wander are lost;= not all who stagger are drunk.[/size:1ilqopn3]
The old that is strong does not wither, = An old whisky can be a great smooth whisky.[/size:1ilqopn3]
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.= Refering to the authenticity of ancient whisky recipies.[/size:1ilqopn3]
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, = The best whiskies are very ash tasting and smoky.[/size:1ilqopn3]
A light from the shadows shall spring; =A good malt gives hope.[/size:1ilqopn3]
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,= A good malt gives confidence.
The crownless again shall be king. = A good malt can make a Baron feel like a King when he is drinking it.[/size:1ilqopn3]

Yes I know that these thoughts are contrived, but I look at pictures of Tolkien and imagine him to be a single malt drinker.

Well done, Baron.
Baron Ironfang, you are clearly up a Poo Creek without a paddle. You have no idea of what Tolkien meant at all. I'll give you instruction (I am kind hearted).

[i:hszwl42m]All that is gold does not glitter[/i:hszwl42m] = Not all (genuinely) good or worthy or pricey things look pretty.
[i:hszwl42m]Not all those who wander are lost[/i:hszwl42m] = Someone can be out and about, but for very purposeful reasons.
[i:hszwl42m]The old that is strong does not wither[/i:hszwl42m] = I think Tolkien means the Strong Spirit in Good Men (especially in Numenoreans).
[i:hszwl42m]Deep roots are not reached by the frost [/i:hszwl42m]= This, I feel, is about the moral root at the heart of all Good Men.
[i:hszwl42m]From the ashes a fire shall be woken[/i:hszwl42m] = The Numenorean Line was not quite extinguished. One ember remained.
[i:hszwl42m]A light from the shadows shall spring[/i:hszwl42m] = The true king of Gondor, Aragorn, will come out of hiding to defy Sauron.
[i:hszwl42m]Renewed shall be the blade that was broken[/i:hszwl42m] = Yes, a sword that was broken will be reforged.
[i:hszwl42m]The crownless again shall be king[/i:hszwl42m] = Aragorn, who has been long exiled, will be crowned King of Gondor.

I hope this clarifies things a bit for you, Baron.

Regards
Odo Banks

NB Eldorion! You know better than to encourage people who are Tolkien Ignorant! Shame on you! :x
Odo, I think you missed the part where the Baron mentioned his points were contrived. :P

Or maybe you didn't.

[b:3durw3sp]GB[/b:3durw3sp]
I didn't realize the Baron was being silly, though it makes little difference - I don't approve of that kind of thing as you know only too well.
Of Course. I forgot you were the voice of sanity.

[b:3g1ofy7u]GB[/b:3g1ofy7u]
The Baron is never silly, Odo Banks, the moon is at 87%, not even Biffo can save you. He might break his head as he tries to headbut the knee of my armoured leg. At 6'11 and 340lbs of pure muscle on a 60" chest, I could inhale you. Then agian I heard Aussies make great tooth floss.

I'm loosing it, Canthiss why do you have to be dead, where are you when I need you??? GGGRrr
Biffo has been out in the Kimberleys for a long time, Baron. And being out in a very remote location mining iron ore, he has often had to face severe food shortages. Indeed, at times he has had to eat iron ore, goanas and cockatoos, and drink scorpion piss, just to survive, which indicates how tough he is. He eats Ironfang types for breakfast (and lunch too, if nothing else is available).

You've been warned!

Regards
Odo Bank

COCKATOO STEW
[i:2do4l34s]One fair sized cockatoo.
One large stone.
Three litres water (the muddier and mineral richer the tastier).
One large billy can.
Put billy on the campfire.
Put cockatoo and stone in the billy can.
Cover with water.
Boil for twenty four to fourty eight hours.
Throw away cockatoo.
Eat stone. [/i:2do4l34s]
Uh oh, looks the Baron treaded on Odo's territory with the poetry/channeling stuff.
Darn tootin'! How presumptious, I mean to say! :x
Rap off! Or ... whatever the equivalent for poets is. :P
Eldorion, Biffo and Tin;

Your presence is required by the Baron Ironfang on a new thread in the other fantist stories section. The thread will be titled: Help with the howling.
This is all very queer --- and I don't like queerness... queerness can easily trip over into silliness... and what with GB's and Eldo's goings on lately, don't we have enough of [i:1yr8rx7p]that [/i:1yr8rx7p]already?
Already there, good Baron. This gives me food for thought though: normally Odo's thread titles are in ALL CAPS, yet the Baron's are not. Does this mean he is not Odo, or is it just a ruse to throw us off? :ugeek:
It's not me, thank you very much! (I'm fingering Noom for this caper!) (Bloody Noom!!!)

Regards
Odo Banks
(nor is the Baron any of my relatives)

NB
I mean it! NOT ME! (Notice the capitals, Eldo!)
I'm still entertaining the possibility that the Baron has simply been lurking and decided to take the name of a character we all know. 8-)
Come clean, Noom, we know it's you! :x

People who give themselves different identities frustrate me!
That explains why you argue with yourself so much.
[i:3tgqw12d]"All that is gold is not glitter,
Especial girls who post on twitter,
You might think them quite gorgeous,
But beware! For some are forgeous!"[/i:3tgqw12d]

JRRT: "The Bit that was left out."

Wise Odo
Now, you mustn't be so distrustful, Uncle Wisey. Why would anyone put a photo of someone else on the internet and pretend it's them? Girls would never do that! :x
This sounds like a Beetle's song that is completely random, but interesting, like "I am the Walrus" There's much too much double crossing and double namings on this forum!
[i:2knvsj61]"Tinuviel was a Walrus, Not too short, not too tallrus, She had a smile to sink a ship, She did ever so like potato chips. All the boys - when she passed - Turned around and admired her... Her grass skirt, Which was really nice, When she wore it with pink sneakers And a nice top..."[/i:2knvsj61] Nah! Definitely Wisey should be doing this...
Yes, Odo, I agree - though I guess I would, wouldn't I!
Well I find your objectification of Tin quite inappropriate, Uncle! We all know how beautiful she is - but it's her Intellect that sets her apart. Tin's [i:293twjpm]inside[/i:293twjpm] has always been more important than her [i:293twjpm]outside[/i:293twjpm] - no matter how gorgeous her [i:293twjpm]outside [/i:293twjpm]is (especially her famously delightful nose).... [i:293twjpm]Men![/i:293twjpm][/size:293twjpm] :x Btw your late surrealistic outpourings would surely be better placed on the Mighty Boosh [/color:293twjpm]Forum..... hmm?
Well I find your objectification of Tin quite inappropriate, Uncle! We all know how beautiful she is - but it's her Intellect that sets her apart. [i:2j82p8dt]Men![/i:2j82p8dt][/size:2j82p8dt] :x[/quote:2j82p8dt] Odo - you're like Gollum, only with even more personalities.
And if Gollum were trying to flog another forum!!
Mirabella is her own person, Eldo! Don't accuse me of what she does. Anyone would think you think Mirabella is me in a dress! How insulting! (She has btw a sensitive side - don't let her resolute Shiriffy competence hide the fact she's still a sensitive young lady-hobbit! Fancy accusing a svelte young lady-hobbit of being a fifty year old gentle-hobbit! It just won't do!) As to you, Mr Tyrant, I don't cast aspersions on you and your flogging! :x
Eldo is obviously one of those Z Generators we've heard tell of, even in Respectable old Needlehole - no manners - no manners at all! :x
Mirabella is her own person, Eldo![/quote:10fi8egb] Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.
Well, it is odd that Odo and Mirabella and Wisey are never on at the same time... And when they are, it could just be Odo's mad mind at work feverishly posting... Oh dear, I hope the Banks family isn't just a spamming idea of Odo's!!!! But it's a good thing Odo is trustworthy. RIGHT ODO?
You should pay a little more attention, Tin, for we Bankses have indeed been on together at times. The problem we have is that we are so close-knit that sometimes we talk for each other; and sometimes even forget that we aren't each other; or think we're who we think we are while in fact being the Banks we think we aren't; and one must face the fact that if you think you'aren't, then, I guess, you're aren't... All I need add is that if you're confused now, spare a thought for us! :? NB I speak for all of us just now because Odo is gardening (attending to his taters), Wisey is reading Chaucer (the Nun's Tale), and Biffo is off mining (in the Kimberleys).
"Taters"have become a recurring motif (of sorts) on this forum. Are they archetypical, I wonder? :ugeek:
Sam's taters conversation with Gollum, is a highlight for me in the films.
Indeed! 8-)
Ah! The more I become acquainted with this forum, the more I experience Odo's happy engagement with the others here - even those who seem clearly to have become jealous and turned violently against him. His rustic charm and gentle respectful nature seems hardly to have been appreciated. Perhaps it was hidden too well beneath his placid country-hobbit exterior. Oh well, as it is often said: all that is gold does not glitter.
What are you on about Balin?! Odo's gentle traits are being reconized and appreciated by many. I am of course lying here, natrually.
Sadly, Ally, yours is exactly the kind of attitude that brought on Odo's odiumophobia in the first place.
Aaaaaah! Odiumophobia. Cured... I say... [b:3rxjr4nv]cured[/b:3rxjr4nv][/size:3rxjr4nv]!
Good to see you back, Odo.
