well, mine is too obvius, though the reason why i choose it is not....,actually,it was my wife who chose it....,because the way we meet was a chance in a million, and since that very moment we could not stop thinking on each other...,just like thingol and mellian...and it looks like eras had gone by, and we are still trapped in a spell....,we forgot about family, friends, everything but us....and that is why i asked her to open an email, she chose this one...,and....,i do not know....,i think it is like...just fits me....(ætoo arrogant,or presumptuous...????).... There are some really delightful user-names on this site. I think some people have put a great deal of thought into what they have called themselves. Thought it might be kind of fun to find out what motivated each of us to call oursleves what we have. Was it the first thing that came to mind, a name you already use elsewhere, something special to you or about you, something relevant to Tolkien, a favourite character from any book, whatever.

To get the ball rolling:

Elenya-Are

== Elenya is elvish for Starday - first day of the elvish week.
== Are is elvish for sunlight.

I choose these two because they sound pretty together and because is was a bright, sunny Monday morning when I decided to find a username
Well, i might as well admit it. My name happens to be from the union of Melkor and a female troll. Yes i know it's a vulgar thought, and im seriously considering changing my name altogether now. Smoke Smilie
Hey Val, maybe this thread should be in the Pony anyway? Next to all them threads about what we look like etc. etc.
What do you people out there in PT land think?
Just an idea...
Makes more sense were it there than here. Happy Elf Smilie
Hmm.. The Squirrel has a point there..

I invented my nick by myself it has no particular meaning.
Years ago I started to write a fantasy story where the main caracter was a woman called Ishayala, the story wasn“t that good I gave it up after 6 chapters, but I“ve always liked the name, and so....here I am Big Laugh Smilie

I`m really curious than I thought I would be.

Well I got mine from my real name, Sheryl.

Rednell, I`m quite curious about yours. I saw a book today that had on it, 'Rendell'. Any relation with that or am I missing something?Does anyone else have their real name as a username apart from Ross and I?

Ross that is your real name right?

No one tell me their real name, it`s just I wondered where you got the idea from.

I know where Legata_Greenleaf got hers from. Big Laugh Smilie

Well c ya l8tr. xx

Hi Sheryl!

I got my name from one of my RP characters I used on another site who most reflects me. Kaimelar means "dreamer" in Sindarian. (I was Told)

Yeah, I do.
I do Big Laugh Smilie No but I took this name because I loved Aulė most of all Vala except for Ulmo....I had to choose between Aulė and Ulmo and it got to be.....TADA AULĖ!

Well it is more complicated than I wrote upthere.....When I was young I came up with these new fresh ideas of creating stuff(don“t ask me which because I can“t remember) but my dad accidently threw it away...my notes and everything....I think there must“ve been something useful there....hence the name Invention = Aulė
very interesting, maybe I should have been a bit more original!
Hey LadyofLegolas, that is a very good question, and very intresting to read all the meanings of the nicks.
My nick means this:
Nessa>the hunter Ni Nessa

Nessa, warrior-princess of the ulad, was famed as a fighter and a hunter. Nessa was the mother of Conchobar (Mac Nessa), King of Ulster and for a time ruled Ulster itself.

I am a little bit intressted in the Irish history and found this name and the story to this name Nessa very intressting.
But the name Nessa aswell is a symbol for Nessa one of the Valar. But I think I didnt choose this explonation, then I am not good as an Valar ;-))))And I didnt know that one of the Valar was namend Nessa until I read te Sil last December.

If I could pick a new username I would pick...
tari_over_legolas which means queen over legolas! Very Evil Smilie
My name is quite simple, my real name is Andrea, so ta-da!
I usually go by Dizy though, it's a name I got from my dad because he claims I talk so fast it makes him dizzy!
Well this is an interesting topic.
In latin excelsior means "higher","above";
Also longfellow(i believe) wrote a poem with excelsior as the title. Smoke Smilie
I was rather 11 or 12 when I registered here. So that explains the nick. :/ and the misspell... though I haven't noticed until someone told me Smile Smilie

Me neither LadyBlueAutomnSky, my eyes always corrected it in my mind and I continued to perpetuate it as I always copied your name rather than type it out. Oh Well! Elf Rolling Eyes Smilie

And in the last one I read, he becomes a dragon too. What more could you ask for?
oh yeah........i forgot about that, i don't think i've been more stunned in my life
Rhodry, I think your nick describes you very well. I think I will have to start that series.

Since, I have already said how I got my user name, I guess that is all I have to say.

Do that Mellie. In my opinion, Kerr is the only writer who comes anywhere close to Tolkien when we're talking fantasy worlds. The difference is, you can really believe her world existed. The mud sticks to your clothes and the sweat really smells.

lol, Val.

At the moment, I am taking the advice of the Squirrel and reading Prachett's Diskworld series. I have read the first two so far. They are quite interesting and humorous, as well.
Naira means Heart of the Flame in Quenya, and it's a name of the Sun. It's also a combination of letters from my real name! Big Smile Smilie
Hm....Well, for my user name, I had one of the people in the chat room give me the website to a name generator and so I went there and generated 550 names, and I went through 50 of them in chat. Mellie helped me with someone else.......dang, who was it? And i picked Delidia. I should have picked Nefmerethiel. But no. I had to be stupid and pick Delidia. Oh well. Thats the story of my name.

So I played around with your name and came up with: Naria = Riana

Of course there were many more posiblities, but that on sounded prettier than Ira Na, Elf With a Big Grin Smilie but Irana isn't bad. Happy Elf Smilie And I've probably missed it altogether. Elf Rolling Eyes Smilie
Du du du du du du du du (sorry slipping into fleetwood mac song mode)

Big Laugh Smilie Hehehe...I'm sorry for confusing you, Grondy, but what I meant was not all the letters in my name is in Naira because my real name is actually made up of two words. I was looking at Quenya when I came across the word and I realised it's also a mix of some of the letters in my name, so I used it. But I like the name Riana and thanks for trying anyway Big Smile Smilie
No problem Naira, it was a fun challenge even if it was futile.
Well, I wanted to have my name be Noble Ringbearer in Quenya, but I accidentally came out with Noble-ring-bearer-of, with an accidental acute accent. I didn't really know much Quenya then... Mad Smilie Very Sad Smilie

What? And I who always thought JILL was the main character... *ponders* I'll need to read them again, me thinks!

Oh, and btw, Val, I agree with you, Kerr is a really good writer of fantasy! I truly loved her books! Until they got confusing, that is. Tongue Smilie
I like your name Arcormacolindóva, I've always liked elvish names that members make up and use.

The Elvish name that I have used on other Toliken sites is Tincolas, it means Metal Leaf.
I'm a major Arwen fan, so I wanted to have my name resemble hers but not be hers. Besides I figured and later found out that alot of people have her name in some way.
I had wanted to do something in elvish but due to the fact that I don't own my own computer I didn't have my books on hand and I wasn't sure of the correct spelling I put it in english instead.

So moon is because that my mom's nickname for me ( because I was born at night, and I'm the oldest.) And star
because of evenstar and (because my baby sister is my mom's star.)

And that's how I came up with moonstar!!
Wow thats a lovely name,Moonstar!
I hope see it around Wink Smilie
I think Moonstar is a lovely name. Translated it would be Isilelen or Isilel. Or El-Isil, star-moon.
My username is explained somewhere in this thread. I kinda regret not using the translation of my real name, but i didn't want to be called "war", i wanted to be an elf and elves are nice. Wink Smilie But I kinda like Authiel now (auth=war in sindarin), it's actually quite suitable at times...
My username is pretty obvious.. If you are a Don Rosa fan and live in Norway. Wink Smilie Hi Amariė! Waving Hello Smilie

For the more fortunate of you the direct translation would be somfing like: "CountGutMcIron". He was one of McDuck's ancestors. I
Hi GBMJ! Elf With a Big Grin Smilie GrevBukMcJern was my favorite name on the McDucks and Ducks family tree, it was so cool to see it here!! I had to send a pm to tell him and whadda ya know, he's a local! Big Smile Smilie
My nick comes out of my head, all thanx to my sisters husband who thought my regular username was too usual.
He“s pretty annoying but I found that he was actually right (even though I didn“t really wanna admit it to him Tongue Smilie ) So I finally sat down to come up with my own personal nick, and this is it! Nice huh? Cool Smilie
Quote:

Yup, I think so!

I think made up names are the best. I have been writing a story for the past few months and having to make up new names for the people in it is the hardest part.
Well Stoney,
I'm sure if you asked for help, that there would be someone who could help you. What kind of story are you writing?

Cool name by the way, Aentra!
Use the name Grivbar!
Heres how i got mine: I made up this dog like charcter (or maby its a wolf) and I thought of names and decided to call it wolfy but my friend kept saying wooffy. Its pronounced: woof (as a dog bark) ie. And we who all read the books know who Elendil is!
I guess I have a funnier story than any of you : I actually confused the "nick" and the "real name" when I registered... So Florian was my name, and I got used to it, eventhough I almost changed once... What? yes this is my name, Florian, my real one, although I'd enjoy if you called me Flo cuse I don't like mt name so much... your choice...

But I guess Florian must be kinda unusual for PT members since it's a french name (very used nowadays...) and noone here is french except me!!
Flo, don't feel lonely! Though I'm not French myself, I do have the utmost respect and admiration for your country's culture and history! So, VIVE LA FRANCE!!!

As for my nickname, it's a combination of my real nick 'bugy' that I've had since I was 2 (two!) years old and my favourite character in Tolkien's world: Feanor!

In chat I also use Lossenlot; I like it cause it sounds Elvish, but I don't know what it means! (could anyone help me with this, pls?)

Namarie!
If you got the name from the name generator at The Barrowdowns then it is most likely random but I did a Google search and looked it up on my Encarta Encyclopedia(I have alot of time tonight Wink Smilie ) yet nothin' came up. It does remind me of the Arthurian Legend because it sounds so alike to Sir Launcelot Deulake.
Valiroimė. Happy Elf Smilie
This is what I found:
Lossė is snow, snow-white or white blossom
lot or loth is flower

So Lossenlot is Snow-flower perhaps? A nice name .
Snow Flower Hill is the name a street in my neighborhood, I like it, I like it! Big Smile Smilie
