Here, here, Brother Taz. Nice one.

And be assured the reason I do not buy the Two Towers PS2 game will now be more than simply I do not own a PS2.
You tell 'em Taz. Canadians miss the boat on this one, too. It is the pits to live so close to the good ole USofA and yet, ineligible for contestes and other promotions. Time they knew we live in a global economy. Mad Smilie
Way to go Taz!!! Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

Chock it up as another example of our American arrogance, which isn't meant to be perceived that way, but from the outside sure looks like it. :elfembar:

Orc Sad Smilie I'm going to boycott them, except when I have to go there on official P-T business. Besides I have enough to do here; don't own a PS-2 and don't want one; and probably won't buy the PC version of the game either. Orc Sad Smilie

But that is just me, everyone else are free to do as they please. Happy Elf Smilie
There are a lot of complex legal issues when it comes to running the simplest of contests lotteries, sweepstakes, or even raffles. These things are very highly regulated here in the US (by individual state governments, not federal) and I would imagine it is equally complicated in other countries. All in all, it's probably not worth the effort for companies to have international contests. It might even be illegal. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of an international contest before.

If you read the fine print, you'll probably see that there are states within the union that are exluded as well (depending on that states laws), so don't take it personally.

I don't believe Americans are arrogant but that's a whole other can of worms.
Prog,
I don't think all Americans are arrogant, but so many times, we do come across that way. I have lived in 2 other countries, and visited a couple dozen others.

Unfortunately, there have been times when I was ashamed to admit that I was American, because of the behavior of others around me. Not because I was ashamed of our country, but there are a few out there that really do give us a bad name. I just quietly and politely as I could, just got out of those uncomfortabe situations. Alot of the time it is our military serving in other countries, after they have had tooooo much to drink. When those same individuales are sober, there is not usually a problem. Also, there are some tourist that think everyone should speak American English, and that shouting at people will make them understood better. It is rather humorous to watch, but it can also cause people to resent us.

Like I said, it is not everyone, but a few can really give us a bad image, especially if that is all others see. They judge us all, according to a few. We just all need to remember that this is a global community, and respect other people's feelings and beliefs.

I am not sure about the regulations concerning contests, but I do seem to re-call seeing other contests, that were international. (But I could be wrong.) But you are probably right, there would be a lot laws, regulations, and money involved. I hope this issue can be resolved with out too many more people resenting us Americans.

We do not currently own a PS2, but are trying to decide on a new game system for Robbie for Christmas. The choices are x-box, game cube, or ps2. Anyone have any suggestions? We have a super nitendo, and a nintendo 64, and we use to have a sega genesis. Remember Robbie is 8 and think about games that are age appropriate.

Thanks everyone. Hope I did not offend anyone out there.

Mellie
X-Box or PS2, but not GameCube as it doesn't have a Lord of the Rings title coming out for it Tongue Smilie
Thanks Taz, We will keep thinking. If we get the x-box, we can get the games cheap. If we get the PS2, Robbie can borrow games from a friend of mine. If we get the game cube, then he can continue on with Mario. (which he loves) but he also has other games that he wants for the other systems as well.

We may just have to settle for another Game Boy Advance, and more games for that. His was stolen from him in August. He was very upset, since the kid that stole it was someone that he really liked, who btw, is in jail now. But that is another story.

Gods, you Americans are strict. In this country an eight year old would have to burn down an housing estate before anyone was even allowed to shout at him.

As for the games system... think yourself lucky. My eight year old wanted all three, just so he could play the various games that are unique to each one. If he's lucky, he'll probably finish up with a Gameboy Advance.
lol. ROTFLMAO. Sorry, Val. I said kid, but, he was not another 8 yr old. The kid that stole Robbie's GBA was 23 years old. We had let him stay with us for a bit, and Robbie had gotten to really like the guy. Robbie followed him everywhere. Thought he had gotten a wonderful big brother. He also stole some other stuff from us including the money out of Robbie's piggy bank (bank and all), a Boom box/CD/Tape player and pawned Matthew's $800 camera. We got the camera back, but not the GBA, or the games that went with it. That is why he is in jail.

Robbie, wants all three game systems. but, we can't do that. So, we need to pick one.

B*****d (can I say that?) Nicking a kids piggy bank! How low can you get?

Go for the PS2. it's the most likely to age best, X-box may well sink without trace before too long, and like Taz says, no LOTR for the cube. Mind you, I don't play games so what would I know. But my girlfriends 11 year old tells me that the PS2 is the best, he was telling me that quite a lot just before his birthday for some reason....
I know exactly what your saying Mell. Your preaching to the choir. See my exchange with Swampfaye in the "God in Lord of the Rings" thread.

I would like to avoid anymore debates along those lines. I probably shouldn't have said anything then, right? Lighening Smilie Oh well. what's done is done...

As far as game consoles, I must agree with Plastic- PS2 is the way to go. First of all, it's backwards compatible with PSone games meaning that it's essentially two systems in one. Combined, there are thousand upon thousands of games the PS2 can play, which is something neither X-Box nor Gamecube can claim. PS2 just released a network adapter which allows online play. X-box also has plans for an online network (next year, MAYBE) but it will be broadband only so it will most likely flop. Also, I'm told the X-box controller is not very ersonomic and is probably a little too big for young hands. Sony is pretty much dominating the market right now and most likely will remain on top for a long time to come. Oh, and the PS2 also doubles as a DVD player. Big Smile Smilie

That said, you could ask Robbie if had to pick only one, which one would he choose. You say he really likes the Mario franchise (and who can blame him, they're all top notch games) so maybe he would prefer a Gamecube regardless. Still, PS2 has a number of Mario-esque franchises. Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Spyro the Dragon...as I said, thousands of games of ALL genres. I'd go with PS2 if I were you.
Thanks, for the advice guys. Robbie has played ALL three systems, and refuses to decide which he likes better, because of the different games that are available to each. I don't think I want to get the x-box, because most of the games are for adutls, or older childern, but they do have racing games. (which he likes) He has also played Munches Odessey (which I had a fit over. I did not like that at all, for his age) He loves the PS2 because of all the games that are available, especially Spyro, and the other games you mentioned Prog. And I already told you why with the Gamecube.

Sorry, Prog, I did not mean to get preachy. I did see your exchange with Swampfaye, in that thread. I have been thinking of ways to respond to it without offending anyone. There are sevearl comments that I wanted to put down, but I really did not want to start another debate either. It got pretty heated in that thread. I did like what you had to say though.

I agree Plastic, that is my basic opinion of the jail bird. I think we really pressed charges because he did steal from Robbie. It really bothered me that he stabbed us in the back like that after everything that we did for him.

So did you get the PS2 for your girlfriend's son? I don't play games either, that is why I had to ask. lol

I really appreciate all the info guys.

Did I ****. They'd skin me for all I've got if they could, I can't even afford to upgrade this PC, so there's no way anyone's getting shiny new stuff out of me. He got a couple of nice things though, I'm not a total git.
Well I guess I'm late again, but way to go Tazzy man! Thumbs Up Smilie Not that I'm very much interested in games and stuff, but it's the principal that counts. Europeans and UK are always left out in American contests, isn't it? Well, they usually are. That's my personal experience too, anyway.
Yes we Canadians are left out and probably will be more so now that wierd Al has put out the song I don't want to be a Canadian Idiot. Honestly I don't know any of us that say about like aboot. And I have a fairly British accent. sigh. let's see what great things can we win in Canada?
Hmmmmm? can't think of anything at present.
I'd consider being left out in American contests an honour.
That's all right folks, out of my spirit of friendship for you, I haven't entered any of these contests either. Of course even though this ancient thread was over three years old when last posted to, sometimes the dead ones are fun to ressurrect. Elf Winking Smilie
