Casablanca No colour, no explosions, no special fx, no blood, no guts, no dirty words, and no sex, but still one mighty fine movie.

that movie is definately one of the greatest films of all time...but for me personally it is and will probably always be "seven samurai",man this movie just blew me away the camera work, the people, the ACTION, and so much more....i was like at the edge of my seat, had just never ever seen a film of this supernal caliber.

The original Ring was on the Sci-fi channel last night. I just used your supposed web page link at Squirrelworld Peredhil! (let me just hope it isn't your own website)

My favorite movies are:

The Secret of Roan Inish
O Brother Where Art Thou?
FotR
The Making of LotR (a Natl. Geo. movie)
The Lion King! Big Laugh Smilie
I saw Donnie Darko last week, it's great.
I love Brother Where Art Thou? Great film.Though I hate the part where they shoot the cows, very disturbing if you ask me...
I can only tell you that I went to see it with two grown fellas from my year, and we were all three jumping, gasping, and clutching the armrests. (additionally Christer was loudly and rudely expressing his appreciation of the shots...cinematograhy students...can't take them anywhere. :rolleyesSmile Smilie

The boys weren't happy to have that tv set in their room anymore, either.:P

Of course, that might have been the late hour, the beer, the smokes talking. But it's the first horror film I've really been scared of, in years.

So, yes, I do recommend it, the American version if you must choose (and I know I'll get tomatoes for that one) if only for that one scene with the horse.
Gives me shivers just to think about it.

And contrarily to you, I'm not 'cheap' :P I go see practically every movie that comes out, unless it's something I really REALLY don't want to waste time on (vide 2fast 2furious and the likes). My money is never wasted if it's spent on cinema.Big Smile Smilie

Incidentally, has anyone here heard of a horror film called 'Uncle Fletcher's Club'?
I saw it once when I was a child...scared me silly...can't find info on it anywhere.
If you have a rare taste in movies, a fine place to find fellow fans (ai, what an aliteration Rolling Eyes Smilie ) is ymdb.com,not to be confused with imdb.com.Wink Smilie You just make a list of your favourites and wait for people to comment. They do.

As to my favourites...
The rotating Top Three are "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid",
"Gangster no.1" and "Fight Club".

Ross, so which "Ring" did you think was better?
The crazed horse in the American remake wins that film for me.*shudder*

(edited for url making system that i don't quite dig yet.. Sad Smilie )

It' is a great movie, I think I recomended it on the brilliant films thread. Maybe we should combine them both in to one thread?

I don't know. You see I'm what is officially known as "cheap". I don't rent films I only buy them so I'm not sure if I should buy the ring or not. The japanese version I was watching, but just for a change, I was completely drunk and fell asleep (My lodger thinks that I'm having a compition with George best, maybe I should cut down). But as it was on the Sci-fi channel it will be shown again soon. If lots of you recomend the Ring I will buy it. But it has to be actually scary. By this I don't mean the Exorcist (yawn). I mean like Alien!

Classics one and all.
I`ve got to say: Pirates of the Carribean, I really really liked it, coz I`ve got a sensitive humour, alot of things make me laugh and I was crying bc of that film, wit laughter of course. Smile Smilie

It was Johnny Depp that made me laugh, he was the star of that movie! I hope they make another one!
Braveheart.
Moby D|ck. But it has to be the old one with Gregory Peck. That is the best one.
Alien
Terminator
Outlaw Josey Wales
Blazing Saddles

edit: Hmmm. Seems like I am not allowed to like the old classics. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

[Edited on 8/18/2003 by Lasgalen]
I love Braveheart! The part at the end where Mel Gibson is being killed really makes me cry, that was the first movie I ever cried over.
Moby D!ick is a good movie too, anything with Gregory Peck is worth watching.

Plus City by the Sea is really great, not very popular(like with many awesome movies)
AND Seven Samurai, that is so on my top 20 list,in that movie you feel so many emotions, happyness, dissapointment that it ends, and ofcourse sadness and I have never felt more compassion for a character in a movie.A must watch.
The movie the Ring just about made me scream with horror, didn't watch it but had my sister tell me all about it *disturbed*.
I really like the Alien movies, some of my favorite movies.
And then there is THE THING,*screams in terror*.Great movie, though I just about ran out of the room when the dogs where being killed by THE THING,hehe,my sister and brother where litterly holding me down so I wouldn't leave.
And then theres Rocky! All of 'em are cool, and theres talk of a another one coming out, hopefully it will do justice to the older ones.
went to see Freddy vs Jason on Saturday, I haven't laughed so much in years, fantastic movie. Anyone who like me spent the entier of the '80s watching dodgy horror movie franchises, you must see this film.

Is it supposed to be funny? Or did you laugh because it was so bad.
I always laugh at Horror movies anyway, but it is meant to be funny most of the time. Freddy can't kill people without making some joke or another along the way. It's anything but bad.
A friend of mine brought that back from Hong Kong on DVD last week. I'll have to borrow it.
I am defintly skipping Freddy vs Jason, those guys look like they crawled right outta my nightmares.I would not want to start wetting the bed again Wink Smilie j/k.
My favourite movies (in no particular order) are, both LOTR, Moulin Rouge, Natural born Killers, Jude, All About My Mother (By Pedro Almodovar), The Lost Boys, The Shining, Metropolis, Brazil, Matrix, Magnolia, A Clockwork Orange, Le Train de la Vie, The Pianist, Cassablanca, Tango Feroz (argentinian movie) and Kenneth Branagh's hamlet. I'm probably forgetting a lot, since I'm a movieadict, but i'll probably remember them later.
I actually forgot "The Goonies", that is my favourite childhood movie, I just needed to be one of them (for those who saw it, you'll probably recognise Sean astin, who plays Mickey, the main character). I went to eastern island when I was 21 (two years ago) and I finally felt like a goonie wondering those cages... it was simply amazing
I recently saw "The Life Of David Gale," which was really really good, though I hadn't heard of it until my uncle forced it upon me. Very interesting whodunnit sort of movie. Has anyone else seen it?
To Ross: If you haven't already bought the Ring, then don't! It is one the worst thriller/horror movies I have ever seen, it's not scary at all. Thumbs Down Smilie

As for me, I like Disney movies, just saw Finding Nemo, great film. But I also like other types of movies; Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Natural Born Killers and so on. Occasionally a comedy, but it's gotta be really good.
Armageddon, just saw ALL of that movie last night and was bawling my eyes out when Oscar died.

I'm right there with ya! I HATE scary movies! Yesterday I went and saw Underworld only because I was told it was more of an action movie. I liked it, so it wasn't that scary Big Smile Smilie
