Thread: Is it me?

Bottom of Page    Message Board > Website General Discussion > Is it me?
I am just wondering that everytime I post something it tends to not get replied to for a long time. Is it me? I don't post anything offencive or over-long so I cannot think of what it could be.
I think you are taking the Message Boards and posting way too personally. Wink Smilie I highly doubt it's you. Of course, you are Sauron though...
I am Lord of All, Sauron is but my guise and servant.
And I hardly think Sauron would call himself an Orc.

But I agree with Eruwen, Your Highness. Sometimes people take longer to reply, it's usually because they either have nothing to say, or they haven't seen the thread. It's nothing to do with Your Wholesomeness, just a sort of thing that happens on any website.
well ive noticed that you awaken threads that died a while ago, its better to go with the more popular ones, but to each his/her own Big Smile Smilie

Perhaps not, but without a doubt he acts like an Orc would.
Perhaps it is your Imposing Presence. Many are put off from speaking with Royalty, even if there is no one else around. And as it is, it is quite unusual for one of the Istari to be addressing your Grand Self. If you let us see behind your mask, and let us get to know you on other terms, mayhap we shall all feel more comfortable in your Esteemed Society.
Hmm royalty? A bit confused. Do I appear to be 'Grand' or pretending to be Grand or the opposite?
All I know is that I am here to talk about Tolkien with other Fanatics. It appears since my last proper visit that sercurity has been increased, as I feel rather restricted as to what I can post as is seems to get deleted.
How can I rectify the problem?
When I read the forums and look for credible responses, I look for those who use Tolkien's words to support the post.

I have been involved in discussions where one player would play devil's advocate in an effort to spark more interest, but my experience with this method has generally been a negative one. Sometimes, this tends to backfire on the player and miscommunication ensues.

The forums are meant as a vehicle for us to share ideas and insight into Professor Tolkien's works. If you have a point to make, post it in the appropriate thread and support your insight with quotes from Tolkien and why you interpret it the way that you do.

If a misunderstanding does occur, especially with a CM, then settle it outside of the forums. It is not fair to subject the membership to issues that do not concern them or may cause them stress. Some of us cannot cope with the stress of confrontation.

Remember that this is a difficult means of communication for humans, as we depend a great deal on body language. It is very easy to misinterpret. Be respectful and patient as you try to convey your message. Similies are a nice substitute for body language. Wink Smilie

Remember that not all topics are of interest to everyone. We are at various levels when it comes to reading and understanding J.R.R. Tolkien's works. None-the-less, no matter to what degree our level of Tolkien knowledge lies, we are all fans of the Father of Fantasy.

Remember that we have school, jobs and other obligations, which may delay a response.
I think I am about to be banned now (not sure why), so see you another time.
Hey you, you flaming one-eyed dude. Don't get so paranoid about being banned so soon from this board. We still haven't had our ceremonial-roasting-of-the-new-members ceremony yet. So sit back, relax and try to taste good.
I have tried but for some reason at this very present time there is a discussion in the Council about banning me becuase I was slightly off-topic on one thread. Also they say I am rude, off putting and offencive and do not contribute to discussions, but I cannot find an example of any of these. Its a pity as I was really looking forward to being part of a British site...The best I can hope for is staying on the final warning, and then I still have to 'tread carefully'.
Do whatever you want, but let me tell you this: Having too many lords in one place is not a good idea.
Too many lords? Not quite sure what you mean?
You forgot to mention the two written warnings from a Council Member, which you chose to ignore. Not to mention previous warnings, which you have also ignored. Any more talk about this will be done with e-mail to the council. Dragging council business into the forum is not to tread light. Consider yourself warned. Again.

You have been given good advise from Rednell, and from Morambar in another thread. We would rather not ban you, but that all comes down to how you behave yourself from now on. Now you know this, and (thanks to you) everybody on PT knows this. Remember, it is all up to you if you stay or go.

What are we going to do with this boy? Shaking Head Smilie

This thread will now be locked.
If you really want to do this in public then lets go! The answer to the basic question is yes, it is you. You have been given excellent advice on why your postings and Melkor obsession cause problems by the council and other members alike (particularly in this thread). We enjoy having members with interesting opinions as it sparks debate and thats why we're all here. We don't have anything against you personally, but stay on topic in threads, do as the council say and you'll be fine.

I have little to do with the day-to-day running of the site I leave that to the council, for that reason I have their backs - what they say individually or as a group, goes - period. Every single CM has had cause to complain about your behavior recently and thus far I have avoided getting involved but yesterday you went to far - writing to me to complain about a council member because they told you to stay on topic in a thread? Then compounding it by posting the whole thing in a public thead on the site? BAD IDEA!

Luckily for you the council has voted not to ban you but if there is any more of the behavior described in this thread or in the e-mails we have sent you your account WILL be suspended. No more warnings you've had three already, not including this post.
Not sure if I am allowed to ask but seeing as you have unlocked the thread I suppose I must.

All I know is that I have recieve 2 warnings for putting an advert in the advertisments section of the forums (apparently I am not allowed to do this even though it says I am in the FAQ).

And i have recieved a warning becuase I suggested that Melkor could have been added to the favourite Valar poll. Hardly a Melkor obsession.

These are the only warnings I have had and both have been done becuase of misunderstanding.

As for me being rude, offensive, offputting, alarming I would like someone to quote where I have done that as I definately can't remember being any of these.

I don't know how this can lead to suspension?

Not sure? How can you be 'not sure' when you have been told not to do it?
Congratulations! With your very first post you managed to ignore yet another warning. And you know what that means, don't you? And you still go on about the same old thing, despite how many times you have had it explained to you. You never listen, you really need to work on that.
Greps last post said that it could be allowed on pubblic on this thread. Thats why he unlocked the post.
And as usual you keep avoiding my very point - try and give me answers to why I recieved those warnings in my last post.
You have gotten e-mails telling you why, but you won't listen. It is no use trying to explain things to you anymore, becuase you don't listen. You didn't listen in the Poll thread, you didn't listen to our e-mails and you didn't listen to this thread.

No, you have received a warning because of your belief/demand that Melkor should have been added to the poll, and still did not back down after it had been explained why Melkor was not included, not to mention after being referred to other threads where discussing Melkor was the topic.
OK so i went slightly off topic in one thread, suggesting Melkor for the poll - big deal. As for the other warnings it clearly said inthe FAQ that I could advertise on the appropriate forum.

The only reason you refuse to directly answer me is becuase you know I have done nothing intentially wrong. Ban me if you must, but thats a complete mockery of the rules.
I was having simple discussion with you I thought Virumor. Just debating whether Melkor was truly a Valar even if he was discounted as one. Then, when you could see my point you thought you would flex some of your appointed authority and said that I would be banned if I mentioned Melkor in the thread again.
Quote from the FAQ:

"This section is located in the Message Boards - Miscellaneous, and here you can advertise your home page or any other site or information you think members of Planet-Tolkien might like to see. Please remember that any sites you post a link to must not contain material which contravenes the Planet-Tolkien Family Friendly guidelines."

So anyone care to explain why i could not advertise a family friendly Tolkien site?

Again : that discussion should've been done in the appropriate thread, which I explained to you. Not in the "Poll : favourite Vala" thread.

Are you saying you unintentionally post the same drivel again and again? That is hard to believe.
You only say its 'drivel' becuase what you said was wrong. Melkor was a Valar even after he was discounted.
Anyway I am not going to get off-topic again as clearly you can only unsuccessfully rebut half of the points I made last post/s.

Lord of All,

You've taken up a considerable amount of the council members time since you joined the site, you're known to be pushy, rude, disruptive and obsessed with Melkor. You don't participate constructively in discussions and don't tolerate the opinions of others. Frankly the council have just about had enough of you.

I've asked the council to vote on banning you, if a majority vote yes your account will be permanently suspended, if we detect you returning under a new account after this time, that two will be deleted.

Grep and the Council
(Actual Lord of Planet-Tolkien)

You have e-mailed and asked a couple of questions, answers are below.

Vir's been running a great thread on the favorite vala poll and has explained that Melkor isn't included in the discussion, is therefore off topic and pointed you to existing threads concerning him. If you really do want to discuss Melkor post in the other threads, it's pretty simple - if you can't abide by the simple rules the admins set out then leave.

I'm presently constructing a links page for the site so therefore don't want to clog up the forums with adverts for, or promote discussions about other Tolkien sites, particularly at a time when global interest in Tolkien is declining. I have already agreed a link exchange with tolkienfourms and as soon as the links page goes live the will be featured on it.

This is a copy of the email you were sent last night, it explains why you were asked not to post your advert and it explains why Vir didn't want you taking the Poll thread off topic. Your questions were directly answered in this e-mail, so what are we not answering directly exactly? Going back through the logs you've had three e-mails from me 3 from Grondy and more from other CM's. Just exactly what the hell is it that you don't understand - frankly I think you should go back to your school and demand an education.
Very well. no headway is being made. You might as well ban me now grep as you have made my name mud anyway.
Also i thought I would comment on the splendid role-model as a webmaster you make Grep. Really inspiring to keep people following the rules, especially the one about not being offencive...
Thank you. Your opinion really means a great deal to us.
I could give you plenty more... How about not being prejudice against innocent members? An excellent place to start. Not letting personal moods cloud judgement of punishments is another. Any more? They are far fairer on Tolkien Forums thats for sure.
LOA, all the council have done is ask you not to do certain things - not unreasonable things.

In the case of the advert you posted in the first instance, I simply asked you not to post adverts for other sites in the discussion forums. That should have been the end of the matter! Instead you posted the advert again, and again outside the adverts thread (which by the way is scheduled for deletion and replacement, this being why I asked you not to in the first place). So again I asked you not to - you then wrote to the council complaining about this injustice (by the way when we say you're rude, pushy and not constructive this behavior is exactly what we're talking about). In my absence Grondy agreed you could post the ad in the adverts thread, again this should have been the end of the matter, but no, you kept on with it - saying you didn't understand.

Then with the Vala poll thread you asking why Melkor wasn't included in the poll, Vir explained why he didn't include Melkor in the poll and told you if you wanted to discuss Melkor to do so in the threads about Melkor (which many people on the site would be happy to participate in) but as with the advert you carried on in trying to discuss Melkor in the wrong thread. When Vir again asked you not to you complained to the council about Vir's warning.

When I told you that Vir was in the right, warned you about your behavior and fully explained the advert business (which you again claimed you didn't understand) you then started posting in this thread about the great injustice that was being done to innocent members and how you couldn't possibly understand why you were being treated in this way!

The council always conducts communications with members in private over this kind of matter, but having started this thread we realised that you would just start another one complaining about how this one was deleted, and I won't have you going about the forum's complaining about how unjust the CM's are and how badly you're being treated when this is simply not the case. The council have made nothing but reasonable requests of you. If your name is now mud it's your own fault.
OK I have read your entire post and I will correct the mistakes.

I posted the advert in the general discussion once. I was told not to, so i posted it in the 'Adverts' forum. Then, despite what it says in the FAQ it was removed and i recieved another warning, for doing something which is allowed in the FAQ.

I thought i would ask why Melkor was not included in the poll. Vir said that he was not a valar so should not be. I then went on to say that in essence he was still a valar, although dicounted.
You can hardly call asking about Melkor, most powerful Valar, 'Off-topic' in a Valar thread. Fair enough if I was talking about Tom Bombadil.
Oh good lord! I give up...
