How did I know you where going to say that Feanor?! Tongue Smilie
I'd have to say Feanor is pretty awesome but I really like Gandalf Thumbs Up Smilie
YA hoo! its legolas! lets go surfing and shooting arrows on shields!
Feanor and Haldir are definately the best! Smile Smilie
Feanor!!!!!!!!! I love him and not to mention, my very own, personal favourite..... The Witch-King of Angmar!! Big Smile Smilie
Are all the Legolas-fans girls between the age of 12-20? Ha Ha Ha Smilie
Nope, fangal-hai are between 3-33.
I tend to think that the coolest character is LEGOLAS!!! Elf Smilie
That is a really tough decision. There are so many characters that are worthy of mention here. But if I had to choose, I would say Turin. He is really quite complex and his story is so tragic. Sad Smilie
Come on, guys. It's ***, (I can't say, it's the answer for my eyespy in middle-earth clue)

But my second favourite is Finrod. And Fingolfin. Just read the Lay of Leithian in Silm. (I wrote it out in Calligraphy with coloured calligraphers paint. It's so cool. WHen sauron's speaking, ti's browns and dark colours all blending in with each other, and when Finrod's speaking it's all happy, and when he's resisting, it's strong colours and all that.... And it's on really cool paper that I painted. It's great. Shove paint on paper, screw up gladwrap on it, and it comes out real cool!!!!)
Sounds good Loni. Why don't you have it scanned into a .jpg file and submit it to Tarrant as proposed Fan Art?
Aragorn!
Witch King. Most efficient killer of dunedain ever!He is the KING
It must be Behren....
The coolest character of LOTR is Éowyn.

She was a lovely white flower standing straight and proud, shapely as a lily, and yet hard, for her frost had turned her sap to ice, and so she stood, bitter-sweet, still fair to see, but stricken, soon to fall and die.
The coolest character would have to be the Witch-King, or Feanor. I don't know why I chose them instead of the 'good guys', but I think the bad guys always have a certain cool-ness to their damn-it-all attitude. Or maybe that's just me.
Naria: it's not just you Orc Smiling Smilie
Vir: that post was beautiful; there are no other words to describe it.

For me Treebeard is the 'coolest' in Middle-earth. He can be calm to a point that some, such as hasty hobbits, might consider 'slow'. However once he is resolved on an issue he can act and make decisions with unthinkable strength to back them up. Treebeard is also a survivor. His life has extended over eons, through which he has suffered the loss of love and watched his friends die or give up on hope. Yet through all of this, he has maintained himself with out loosing his core to the turmoil that the world threw at him. Lastly, I must comment on the winning issue... Walking trees! What is spiffier than trees that walk and can tell you tales that originated near the beginning of creation? Endurance, strength, and kindness: Treebeard possesses all of these and there by wins my vote.
To me, the coolest character is Aragorn, the power of a king, and a sword that could pretty much kill of any army, one of the Dúnadan, lives for years and years, friends of the Grey Company and has the love of an immortal, willing to give her life up for him. I think that makes his life pretty cool anyways Big Smile Smilie
Heart says Turgon, High-King of the Noldor and ruler of the greatest purely Elven city. Head still says Feanor though. Will read/post more after I sleep.
i'd say finrod followed by Hurin (for what he did for Turgon in the Fifth Battle)

My choice is fingolfin.
He did fight morgoth.
Hmm, when I personally think on the word 'coolest' I don't think noble necessarily or tragic or bravest. Coolest to me means a touch of hip, outrageous, someone that you love to see walk through the door at a party because they are part sweetness, ridiculous, kind, caring, take chances and are very funny at times.
So when I think of all the characters from Middle Earth that ever have lived and had their place in the great Drama my mind goes back over and over to one singular character.
A Hobbit called Peregrin Took. Dear sweet Pippin who was foolish, too inquisitive, terribly loyal, funny, fun loving and like lady Galadriel said found his courage and did the most amazing things. And yet through all he suffered and endured he retained the essence of normal Hobbitness and wide eyed wonder at the world.
Yes the coolest dude for me was Master Pippin.

In that case, bring on Master Lindir.
Oh Lindir! I have completely forgotten about him! He deserves the most 'carefree" or the "woorthiest of being movie Legolas's brother" award...

Did I already post here? If I did, I've probably already expressed my admiration for Finrod Felagund, as I have in other threads...Though, perhaps, "cool" is not the word that usually pops in my head when I think of him. Slang does not seem to fit into his character, and even ifit was not slang, Finrod is definitely more warm than cool.

But Leelee, I do like your choice. Pippin is a lovable character, innocent and bright, soaking up the world around him and learning of sorrow while not losing his power to smile.
Technically the people of Forochel (the Forodwaith/Lossoth) were the coolest in Middle-earth.
How so?
I would have thought that you would be more in tune with Vir than anyone, being his sarcastic self with you alot..... The Icebay of Forochel and Lossoth all have a reference to Ice and Snow, and I agree, all those with a reference to Loss are cool Orc Grinning Smilie Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
Why, dear! I've never even heard of the Forochel or Lossouth (is it the house of Lindir?)!But that does make sense...

Where do you think Arvedui, the last King of Arnor, fled too? Who do you think helped him? Where do you think the poor soul drowned?

Tis all in the Annals of the Kings in the Appendices to LOTR, O! mischievous lil flutter.
Well, I didn't read that. Never was very interested in Numenor anyways. But thanks for the tidbit. And honored as I am that you feel astonished at my lack of Tolkien knowledge, I must point out that you do need to treat me as a beginner in terms of Rohirrim/ Gondorian/Numenorian history.
My choice is Merry :His effort at the Pelenor field , saving Éowens' life because he stabbed the mighty Nazgul ( with a knife ) disturbing him enough to be killed by her .Also he made an heroic effort helping the Ents distroying Isengard and at last : He grew 3 inches drinking entdraft .That's very impressing even for a hobbit Smile SmilieTo me he is brave
Well cloveress you really should read the appendix, they're interesting and informative and fillin some gaps.

Not Rohan/Gondor/Númenor, but Arnor...

Please do not get me wrong, my dear Cloveress, I was not treating you as a verdant; I was merely pointing out where you could find the information I thought you would be interested in.
Plastic Squirrel,
I think that Samwise was indeed intelligent. He may have been of the Shire and a homespun sort of person, simple in h is ways, but he learned to read and write and he loved the lore of the Elves and even made up his own lays. He figured out Gollum at the beginning and was never proven wrong. And it took intelligence and a brave heart to get him all the way to Mordor.

I think maybe the coolest character is Eowyn, but after him definitely Beren. Such a strange and wondrous man and all that shapeshifting!

Huh? Elf Confused Smilie Éowyn was a female and I don't remember Beren ever shapeshifting. Did I miss something?
Leelee, are you refering to Beorn from The Hobbit? He shape shifted to a great bear and hunted orcs for sport!
Turin or Aragorn
Okay, I admit I was rather distracted when I did that post. Here let me start once more:
Eowyn, SHE, and I meant Beorn the shape and skin shifter.
There Grondy dear, is that better. I some how know you know what I meant.
Smile Smilie
Much better Leelee; I only pointed out the discrepancies, because I was able to do it prior to Virumor. This in order to give his sarcastic tongue, er...fingers a short vacation. Elf Winking Smilie
oh how sweet of you dear Grondy.
You know what though, perhaps it is my naivety or perhaps I am just a blonde bimbo , but I never think he is really sarcastic. I don't know why and half the stuff the rest of you notice and point out I never notice.
Perhaps I should go for counselling. Perhaps my inner elf is in trouble.
Does anyone think that Thorin Oakenshield is too cool or perhaps Bombur? anyone at all?
Oh and what about dreamy Prince Imrahill, I had a total crush on him-he is cool cool cool, noble, brave and well........everything. don't you think?
