Hello Tolkien Lovers. Many are the tales I have heard told about this Forum. Indeed, you might be pleased to note this Forum has become part of my family folklore. My distant cousin (and former participant) Odo has told me all about it. I hope I will be treated nicely here, just as nicely as he was before certain forumers turned on him - like rattlesnakes, he tells me. I hope to have a lovely stress free time here. There are many ills in the world and it's nice to move among good people discussing all sorts of Tolkien related matters and even, hopefully, having a teeny weeney bit of fun along the way. Odo tells me [i:2xgv1dmr]most[/i:2xgv1dmr] of you were good people to be with - in fact ALL of you were good people, right up until the [i:2xgv1dmr]troubles[/i:2xgv1dmr] started! Anyway, Hi Everyone!
Hmm, you are not a female, not a caveman, no singer (or are you?), and surely, you cannot be Odo! What kind of Banks are you, Balin?
I'm just your average kind of Banks from the Bywater branch of the family, and I'm very pleased to meet you Ringdrotten.
I confess, all this egocentric "Banks" stuff gets annoying. In fact, it's one of the reasons I stopped posting here. How far can you take this multipersonality stuff anyway? When does it cease to be funny? As to GB's attacks - what attacks? Eldo had a bit of a go at you - but he was right to do so in my opinion. All your multi-posting was (vaguely) funny at first, but it did become boring pretty quick. I apologize for speaking my mind! No, I'm not - it's about time you got some of your own back Odo-Wisey-Mirabella-Biffo-Balin. You must think we're stupid if we can't see through your childish games and your pontifications (thinly disguised!) Indeed, I reckon nice people like HenrySmith (Jane) dropped away because they got sick of you! Anyway, I've said my piece.
I still keep an eye on things when I can, and usually all the manifestations of "Banks egomania" is quite amusing - not always! :ugeek: But if [i:2aygv8lm]they[/i:2aygv8lm] hit a few false notes now and then, what does it matter? Yes, they're all egomaniacs (yes, [i:2aygv8lm]ALL[/i:2aygv8lm] of them  ), you'll get no argument there from me, but they're pretty harmless - most of the time! :- Jane
Everyone has a right to their opinions. Pleased to meet you Jane who appears to be HenrySmith! err... and you too I guess, Grey Evangelist...
Hilarious as usual Odo - [i:1aj5fvi7]not[/i:1aj5fvi7].
Although our acquaintance has been a short one, I can see your wit is rapier sharp. I do apologize for the "Evangelist" bit - I just thought it sounded appropriate. No hard feelings.
Careful. You might inadvertently be showing your true colours [i:30dwa55m]Odo[/i:30dwa55m][/size:30dwa55m]. By the way, perhaps the word "Fool" might be appropriate!
How dare you, sir! :x As if I'd pretend to be somerone I wasn't! Odo did mention the word "prat" once or twice when describing you. He also seemed to think the Hobbit Forum was a better place without you. Odo's opinion, mind, not mine! But he might have been right, if first impressions are anything to go by. :ugeek:
Look I know I'm not Forum "Royalty" but at least I don't act like I own the place. You do whatever you want, say exactly whatever you want, and you even have a go at others at times, but the minute someone has a go back, you get all sooky la la. Maybe not everyone here sees through you - though I think folk do and are just politely tolerant of you - but I certainly see through you. You're a Hollow Man buddy. Also a prick when you want to be.
Is this how new members are treated here? Well, shiver me timbers! Btw - Gandalfs Beard owns the place, not me. Odo was the Moral Voice here. Wisey the Voice of Chanelled Wisdom. Mirabella GB's and Petty Tyrant 101's love interest (according to local rumour). And Biffo was a simple miner from the Kimberleys who brought his own rustic charm. They've gone now - GB frightened them off, I hear - and your intimations that I am them is a joke. A joke I say. Deeply offensive! As I've said since arriving a short time ago, I'm just a fresh faced newcomer - and I find your antagonism to me repulsive. Is this how you welcome people?
You never stop. Read the Program - you're not funy. Anyway I'm off now. I think I'll come back when the less foolish are back on. NB Sorry Jane for speaking for you earlier. I'm glad you're still around. I can read between the lines, I think, because I actually think you agree with me, but like the other good people on this Forum, you take toleration to an extreme. I think it highly commendable. I just can't sit back silently accepting Odo's crap day after day.
Run away! Run away! Your mother was a lizard and your father smelled of boysenberries!
Well, I certainly hope Mr Pilgrim hasn't scared off Henry's Mum Jane :x . As far as I know, Odo just went off to have a nap after a hard day's work spamming the forum. I'm not sure why the rest of the Bankses got a bee in their bonnet, but every one of them is welcome, and well loved here at the forum Mr Pilgrim. Their antics keep us quite amused in this time of uncertainty. So I am delighted, DELIGHTED, I say, to welcome yet another member of the Banks Clan to the forum. Please Balin, even if you are just another fragment of Odo's tortured psyche, you are most welcome to join us. Please let your cousin know that I eagerly await his return when he's finished his nap. And let the rest of the clan know that there has been some sort of misunderstanding :? (now I think I know why Mirabella was always so concerned about Uncle Odo's fragility). [b:2xt6ru27]GB[/b:2xt6ru27]
You must think we're stupid if we can't see through your childish games and your pontifications (thinly disguised!)[/quote:gsdwfu1t] Sometimes I find Odo's half-dozen accounts to be annoying - it occasionally feels like the entire forum is becoming Odo's private playground for his various personalities to bounce off each other - but I don't think he believes anyone else to be stupid. I think he's just engaging in his own personal brand of humour, and while you and I may not appreciate it, evidently other people do. And of course, at the end of the day, Odo's a very nice person, all oddities aside. I've just learned to take most of what he says seriously (though lately he's shown that he can be serious when he wants to).
Bottom line is they've taken so bloody long with TH movie that in the meantime all the big Tolkien subjects have a thread here somewhere, we've had just about every Tolkien argument you can conceivably have (with the only Tolkien centric argument ongoing being the Merry and Pippin thread-and that's a bit of a straw man cause I'm so clearly right and GB wrong ) and without a little imagination and fun such as the Banks provide we'd all have drifted away for a lack of anything to say. I enjoy this place, and I for one wish you would post more Grey Pilgrim, I wish lots of people would. Those of us who do continue to post regularly (I suspect) do so out of a desire to keep our little internet community alive as long as possible. The worlds largely a harsh and crappy place, its nice to have an oasis of niceness (and occasional silliness) somewhere in it all. You will not help keep the forum going by not posting and just being annoyed- even if you only post how annoyed you are (although maybe with some minor self-censorship you p***k! TH is a children's book after all and its quite likely minors pay us a visit from time to time). But don't be put off because you find the varied Banks members annoying- just ignore their posts if you like but please do contribute again. Oh and welcome to the forum Balin Banks. edit- I meant to also say that it is good to hear from Henry's mum/Jane again. I do wish we had more female voices on here, it gives the place more balance and we'd have someone to do the cleaning.
Another Banks, hope this one has some nobility about him and is not a peasant like the rest. Multiple personalities, everyone should have at least one.
Hello Baron, nice to meet you. Be rest assured, irrespective of my transexuality, I am a Bywater Banks through and through, and that means Quality (and comfortable living conditions!). You are quite right about the Rushock Bog Bankses - not much of what I'd call [i:2kgun5zr]class[/i:2kgun5zr] there I'm afraid - but one can never really pick ones family. I must bear up like the rest of you on that score. Btw Petty Tyrant 101 is more than right to say "ignore" them if you want. It's what I will be doing. And I agree also that in between all those discussions of Tolkien matters, and the virulent and various debates on the Big Bad Serious Thread, and the fair dash of Banksian stupidity on this forum, we do manage to keep a vibrant thing happening! Nor should we forget that the Rushock Bog Bankses are not the only hobbits to indulge in silliness and flights of fancy here - and that's definitely a good thing, I think. As to Grey Pilgrim, if he wants to stay, I guess I can cope with him - if I try really hard. But if he wants to lock horns, well, I'm not afraid to stand up to him. :x
NB I'm not entirely sure who Grey Pilgrim thinks if "Forum Royalty", but I don't think we have any. :P I know I have a rather ridiculously large post count, but all it means is that I haven't drifted away as much as some other people and that I spam more. I don't think it makes me or anyone else 'better'.
"I'm not entirely sure who Grey Pilgrim thinks if "Forum Royalty", but I don't think we have any"- Eldo Then what the hell have I been making this crown for then? Ive got a silver and gold throne (well a chair with sweet wrappers glued all over it) all ready to go after Grey Pilgrims statement about royalty. I was planning a parade too, with a performance from a weasel smuggler.
You can be purist royalty then.
Sure enough, Odo's spamming sprees might get out of hand/tiresome, but there's always a couple of funny/good comments hidden inbetween the spam Also, the different Bankses are quite amusing, you've got to admit, especially the songs/poems of Wise Odo, and the occasional grunts from Biffo  And like others have said, Odo and his "family" largely contribute to keeping the forum active, which is great, isn't it?
You can be purist royalty then.[/quote:1kcdm9ao] I think this might be an oxymoron in this context,   I am the closest to genuine royalty on this forum, a petty tyrant, is that not just two words instead of the usual one word, "Usurper". Sir Eldorion, you really should know better than to encourage the riffraff.
Sir Eldorion, you really should know better than to encourage the riffraff.[/quote:6ztgweul] Sage advice, Baron - sage advice! :ugeek:
And to think I was defending you Balin because your'e a Banks. Well not much of one it seems, how quick you turn! :o (riff-raff indeed, if Ironfang's what you like in company your welcome to him!) I definitely prefer the Rushock Bog Bankses! Bring back Odo and Wise Odo (I do miss his verse) and Mirabella (in case GB completely fails to get off with her it leaves the options open!) not so fussed about Biffo but hey he's alright, this Balin Banks seems untrustworthy to me!
not so fussed about Biffo but hey he's alright,[/quote:39w42pdr] If this Balin is a tranny then he is deffos not trustworthy, however Biffo is gold that does not glitter, there is more to him than meets the eye. I sense a spark of nobility about him and am still considering Knighting him to place him head and shoulders above the rest of the Bankses.
First I must clear up a misunderstanding. Transexuals are very trustworthy. We know who we are, unafraid of who we are, see both sides of every argument, and hate dishonesty, full stop. Now, moving on ----- I am fond of the Rushock Bog Bankses, but the Baron is right about one thing, they [i:lifd1cv9]are [/i:lifd1cv9]from Rushock Bog (you must think that fact out, Petty Tyrant 101). And I think it wise they stay in their small self-created world of Howdy. If one wants to visit them there (or send a missive) one can still do so. Yiou must think of them now as being like fish in a fishbowl. Visit them if you wish - ignore them if that is your decision. This way their friends, half-friends and non-friends can deal with them as they wish. They'll be happy amongst themselves if it comes to that. For are they not at heart rustic honest folk? They know who they can trust, and know they can rely on each other. Fear not for them, but visit them if you wish. I'm sure all the recent angst over them, and scurrilous comments about them, have weighed them down sufficiently without them feeling obliged to brave the cruel Broader Forum World again. Not for awhile, at least. They feel besmirched, you see. Petty Tyrant 101, you must think of me as their respresentative - but don't ask me to excuse them. I am, after all, a Bywater Banks and must remain true to my class. Baron, say what you wish about me, but know I am utterly trustworthy in both my aspects! We tranhobbits have enough trouble being accepted without people doubting our word or credentials. As to Biffo being a candidate for Knighthood, Baron - that is indeed a surpring concept! :?
