Hey, this post is just really a question which I have always wanted to ask and wanted answered.

I as many of you are hugeeeee tolkien fans, and big fans of the lord of the rings trilogies, many people probably want to know how they could maybe get the chance to be an extra in the Hobbit movie.

So my question is "How do you become an extra for the hobbit movies?"
any ideas? and is there an address to contact?
It's a bit early to be looking for work as an extra smshadow but no doubt there will be plenty of info around nearer the time.

I'm guessing anyone in New Zealand will have a better chance than most though so if you ever wanted to go back packing.........
Oh I would definitely go if the remotest chance arose. Even if I was never in the actual cut of the film, I think it would be totally awesome to BE on the set, and to be participating (maybe even interacting with some of the main characters.)
I would definitly go for any oppertunity to be an extra in the movie! My problem is I'm a broke college student in the United States so there is really no way for me to get anywhere right now. I'm pretty sure they would wait to cast extras though until it gets closer to filming. I haven't even heard much about any main casting yet so I'm not sure.......
All the extras are going to be New zealanders cause they want to keep the money in the country, so don't get your hopes up.
I would love to be in the movie, but I don't think I make a good chance, since I'm located right at the other end of the world...
Never give up!!!! Anything is possible! If you want it bad enough you can make it possible! Personally I don't think I want it that bad. Haha but that's becuase i need to finish college first

So do I!
Sad day! Well maybe some day they will make a move that we can be in once we are out of college Luck for me I only have one year left!
Hi All,

Does any one knows who is the agency in new zealand for the hobbit?

Vanessa 782 8-)
I read that the production company is 3'7" Ltd., but I'm not sure if that is credible or not. (LOTR's was 3'6" Ltd.)

Other than that, I have no idea who to go to. But when they need extras and minor characters, I expect that they'll advertise. You'll have to be reading the papers and scouring the news feeds a few weeks before filming begins.

Also: one thing to beware of: if they film in New Zealand (which they probably will), then it could be extremely hard to get a NZ work permit. The government allows non-kiwis only when no suitable kiwi can be found. So the small jobs (extras, janitorial, small speaking parts) are usually given to kiwis, since they are usually readily available. It is only when a production needs a highly experienced professional (that can't be found in NZ) that the government lets them hire a non-kiwi.
Since you live in Australia, this could pose some problems. But if you have an agent, and you find out who to contact, you'll need to start negotiations as soon as you find the info.

Hi Guys and girls,

Well I live in New Zealand Wellington aswel and work in the security industry my boss told me the other day that we will be doing security requirments for the hobbit movie does this count in being an extra hehehe. So I will be seeing every move they will make and so on! Will also be seeing the movie being made etc it's going to be fun I am excited about it just buy being a security guard
Hi Iain..., that sounds like an awesome job 8-) . Even though you're not in the movie, you can still be a part of it and see it being made. I envy you  .

Well it's not an awesome job but it does get exciting when the filming is happening around Wellington and it's mostly going to be shot in Wellington anyway so I will be going to one of the private locations havnt been told where yet as it hasnt started we dont have Stone st Studios cause its owned buy another company! But we do have Weta Workshop where I have worked before and loved it there! Meet all the staff and including peter jackson him self. I love the private locations where you can chase people off etc.. when is it going to being?
I think the only hope of getting in the hobbit moive would be if they held open auditions, which i highly doubt. It would be AMAZING to be a part of it, and has been a dream of mine since i was 8, (for six years basically) I like acting, but i don't do any professional stuff, and it would be so awesome to just be a part of the process of making the film!
Sadly, NZ is really far away from the USA, so i dont think so...
Ideas are to make more dark as it ????? more to interest.
I would jump at any chance to be in the hobbit movie. I don't care if I would be in the finished film at all. Just to be there watching the movie be made would be awesome. Big problem though, I am a teenager in the USA.
I thought I would revisit this topic b/c of the recently posted news.
THEY ARE CASTING!!!!!!!!!! and they aren't neccessarily loooking for the stars to play the roles. Now would be a good time (if your experienced somewhat in the acting world) to put on your elf ears and head over to LA!
If only.... Does anyone know how to get in to one of these auditions??? or am I still dreaming and its still too big for a good amateur  to try out for???
Go For It Tinuviel  . Hmmm, maybe I should try out for a Dwarf or a...erm...stocky Elf  .

I say give it a shot. You will have to let me know if you make it, though!
