Been a while since I read them too, but appendix A & B are great, especially the part I already mentioned, about Durin's Folk
I do hope Ally you have at least dipped your toes into the appendix as far as section (v) of appendix A? The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen. It's essential reading I would say. And a beautiful bit of romance. And the Durin stuffs good to as is all the stuff about how Rohan came about and the Alliance with Gondor. Welsh bearded ladies? I thought the Scots had the monopoly on bearded women? Must be a Celtic thing. (Edited amendment) Ive changed my mind its a Celtic thing. Just been on a visit to Needlehole and frankly it puts Scots bearded ladies into the shade (at least I think the ones in Needlehole were women, hard to tell after 6 pints of Duckie and a chaser). Now its got me wondering if Mirabella has a beard too? Might explain her growing (potential stalker) relationship with GB!
Mirabella I'll have you know is a humdinger of a lady hobbit, Mr Tyrant! (And don't count yourself out - if you could get over your liking for Russians and Romans ---- well, you just never know).

I was a wee bit to young, as I recall and decided to read some teenage historical fiction, which was a bit easier for me. I liked Arwen in the films, so I read a bit more into her- but I don't remember reaching the stuff on Durin's Folk. Now I'm older, I must read the appendices at least once!
I fear you'll have to read the Appendixes several times fully to get an overarching (Purist? :? ) understanding of them, Ally!
