Thread: Who Would You Play in The Hobbit Movie?
Well, as we are busy derailing Bilbo's casting thread (what else is new
), I thought maybe I should actually start a proper thread for this topic
So let me give this a whirl to get things started. First, it's kind of hard--being a beard (attached to Gandalf's Face)--to be anything but a prop (maybe a mop). But if I could be something (someone) else, who would I be? Taking into account my natural padded (and shortish) figure (in human form), I suppose I could rather see myself as Bilbo. Though no doubt I am more suited to play one of the less brilliant Dwarves.
Ideally though, I'd rather play Gandalf's Brain
I'm not sure that would work visually though... Del Toro might show his brain, I guess...? What have you heard?
If you're short, GB, you might be a better choice for Bilbo than me. I'm far too handsome to be a dwarf, so that's out. Does anyone know what Itaril will look like?
I suppose I could be the Mayor of Lake Town. I guess I could be cynical enough. Or Bard. He was bird brain too... no... he had a brain for birds... don't we all, come to think of it......
Tinuviel for an Elf Maid, especially if Arwen is in it. She'd have the perfect nose for it, I've heard, and she already has a beatiful Elvish quality about her.
Eldorion could be Elrond, what with his knowledge of Lore (though he might be too authentic for Del Toro's taste!)
Those Scots chaps - dwarves obviously. Mr Tyrant for Thorin (has that irascibility). Hail Manwe for Balin?
Lester Cat: a goblin... no... a Warg (close enough to Cats, surely!)
Yes, I know. This is supposed to be about what we think we should be, not what other people think we should be - I just can't help myself! Sorry!
Eldorion could be Elrond, what with his knowledge of Lore (though he might be too authentic for Del Toro's taste!)[/quote:2gxe8k28]
Ooh, I wouldn't mind that.
Especially if I could convince del Toro to give up the eyebrows.
I did say [i:1gtaypev]'authentic'[/i:1gtaypev]! If you say he had no eyebrows (and you study these things) then he shouldn't have eyebrows! (Um....were the eyebrows something to do with Elrond being half-elven?)
I could live with [i:3q61lrl0]some[/i:3q61lrl0] eyebrows, just not movie-Elrond's mutant Vulcan[/url:3q61lrl0] ones.
Are you kidding??? Those are awesome
. The Vulcans got 'em from the Elves, not the other way 'round.
I could possibly live with them so long as I don't have to say "Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson..." Agent Elrond indeed!
You know, I had the same reaction first time I saw Weaving in the part
. But now I can't imagine anyone else in the part (except you of course
I'd play Sting, Bilbo's sword, think of the action you'd have cutting up spiders and so on!
Gandalf's beard, maybe you could play a particular wizards facial hair, I'm trying to think of his name, what was it, I think it begins with a G...
As for Odo, I think you might make a good Thorin with all your sarcasm and cynicism
Btw I have started a new thread on the LotR forum, please give me some feedback
I'm going to have to think about this properly before I decide who i'd like to be although I guess
Balin wouldn't be bad (thanks Odo)! I'm a bit tall and thin for that but he's definately a favourite
I'm taking the mrs to see 'up in the air' and i'll have my Hobbit with me to deliberate
Tall and thin, 'ey? How about one of the Ents? There was tall young one, if I remember correctly, but I don't recall his name just now... Was it [i:9xwm7jk6]'Quickbeam'[/i:9xwm7jk6]?
Edit: Checked the book. There is a [i:9xwm7jk6]"Quickbeam."[/i:9xwm7jk6] What an uncanny name for a physicist! So would it suit Halfwise better?
Was Quickbeam the 'Hasty' Ent, that looked after Merry and Pippin? Wished they'd have included him in the film, would have been interesting to see another Ent.
Btw I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like to play any of Bilbo's plates or any of his glasses, [i:nnet8s5x]Chip the glasses and crack the plates, that's what Bilbo Baggin's Hates... [/i:nnet8s5x]
At least we got to page 2before the slackening !lol
The Hobbit !!
Perhaps you could be Gandalf, Hail, you're testy enough!
If only I was old enough, or wise enough, or had a beard even !
Then who shall you be, Hail Manwe? Surely we need you on board!
Based on his username he could be one of the Eagles of Manwe. Perhaps Gwaihir.
Hey! Yeah! I can imagine Hail as a Great Eagle! (All this Loremaster stuff might yet become useful, Eldo - though no promises, awright!)
Yesss !! Great idea Eldorion. Swooping in heroically to save the day definately appeals !
Not a huge part though so perhaps I could play one of the lesser dwarves as well ?
Is that allowed Odo ?
I guess so. Personally I like the idea. But you'll have to ask GB for the finasl decision, his thread, you see...
John Rhys-Davies (Gimli and voice of Treebeard), Andy Serkis (Gollum and voice of the Witch-king), Lawrence Makoare (Lurtz and body of the Witch-king), and probably others as well all had multiple roles in the films. I think you could too.
Yes of course. Thanks Odo.
In that case Eldorion, maybe we should have a few choices each ! At the end of this i'm
sure between us we could cast the whole thing !
I would definitely want to be either an elf or an ent
Nothing is set in stone (this is the Matrix so to speak
). So everyone's welcome to choose as many parts as they want
Totally off-topic, but speaking of the Matrix, I just saw [i:2k9x79n5]Reloaded[/i:2k9x79n5] tonight and ... damn! I'd heard it wasn't as good as the original, but it seems like the Wachowski's decided to just make it a bunch of people fighting interspersed with some longwinded pseudo-philosophical explanations. The fight scenes and philosophical (particularly Cartesian) references in the first film were cool, but I think they were waaaaaay overdone in the second.
Oh dear! You've got the OTV* too, Eldo. Teach you for hanging around on this forum with the likes of GB, I guess.
Maybe I could be the Mouth of Sauron. Some people have called me a "Mouth". Rubbish of course, but I'm sure I could do some acting lessons and pretend I was! (I would need a little make-up too - to disguise my good looks).
*[i:243bxw84]Off thread virus.[/i:243bxw84]
In my (retroactive) defense, Elrond was in The Matrix, so like, it's sort of related to Middle-earth, if you stretch the meaning of the word....
Pure cheek, Eldorion, that's all that was, pure cheek!
I think I'll reply in the sci fi thread Eldorion
Are you wicked/cruel enough to be 'the mouth' Odo ? One of my favourite baddies in LotR, his
lines were brilliant (in the book)! They did a good job of presenting him in the film I thought. I wish they'd done
the scene properly though.
NB; Should this thread be widened to include LotR GB ? Or perhaps a 'sister thread' ?
Ah! There are things you do not know (and neither do I yet!), Hail, but I am channeling at the moment, and when the answer comes I shall post it on the Odo thread! Already, I sense a role for The Mouth in the Hobbit Movie! That's where my post about me being The Mouth must have originated - yes, in my sub-conscious, you know.
Mind you, I have been getting a bit confused between threads lately, so that might be another explanation!
You know sometimes I wonder where the line lies between Wisdom and Senility. Something for others to discuss on the[i:2eopflov] 'Senility and Wisdom in Middle-earth" [/i:2eopflov]thread, perhaps?
How are you? Sorry I haven't been on for a bit, but I got locked out of my Account by accidentally deleting my cookies
. Any way hows it been?
So, on topic. I think that I would cast myself as a lake town extra or Bard (Need to roughen myself up a bit, sandpaper?
). Cant think of any other characters at the moment.....
Ahhhhh, Feels good to post again.....
EDIT: PS. What do you think of the new "bag-end-after-the-dwarves" avatar?
Welcome Back Aule
. I've been a bit tied up the last few days with Mum in the Hospital. But she's back home and things are looking better.
Hope she gets well soon.
. Good to have you back.
