Isn't there supposed to be some love interest attached to this character?- if so seems unlikely it will be short or confined to the Mirkwood bit.[/quote:3vvu6vt1] Very likely. Hence the extraneous material. :P [b:3vvu6vt1]GB[/b:3vvu6vt1]
I reckon she will be Legolas' squeeze. Oh dear just writing that has brought on a crabbit attack.

You aren't PJ in disguise behind that beard are you GB? It would explain a lot! And your recent abscence from the forum coincided with PJ's ulcer. Mmmmm, the plot thickens.

relay to Peter Jackson[/quote:125iwwy9] Does anyone here actually know PJ? I can't imagine, but stranger things have happened. :P[/quote:125iwwy9] Maybe I really am PJ. [b:125iwwy9]GB[/b:125iwwy9]
Tania Raymonde would also be a good choice for an Elf relay to Peter Jackson

I bloody knew it!!! If we throw him in water and his beard floats its definetly him; the mark of the Coven.
Hmm, well, didn't some of the actors and crew used to talk about reading fan discussions when LOTR was being made?
I just hope they don't make her a huge fuss. They made up material about characters in LOTR, which was fine by me because it was still within the realm of the story. But Adding a brand new character punches a hole through the bubble and the realm of the story will be lost. I don't care if there is a romance. I don't need one. Orlando Bloom would be enough for me

I'm more of an Arwen guy myself. [b:2wc9xf7m]GB[/b:2wc9xf7m]
Well    who wouldn't want to be Orlando's squeeze? (Don't Tell BEREN!)
It's being reported on various Entertainment websites that Saoirse Ronan has gotten the part of Itaril. I guess she's pretty good. She's got a fey, elven look to her. http://www.wordandfilm.com/2011/01/saoi ... as-itaril/
Definitely got the look of an Elf, but I really don't like this Itaril character. Most likely there'll be a love story involved here. Love stories take ages to introduce and develop, which means there'll be less time for the more important parts (the parts I think are important, that is). Getting the Petty syndrome :x
They're not saying that she's Itaril, only that she's been cast. We don't really know what the role will be yet, and there hasn't been an official announcement of any sort. That said, it seems that she will probably be Itaril, but we can't say for sure until we hear more.
Even if she is cast as Itaril, SHE STILL LOOKS TOO YOUNG!!!!!!! And it kind of bugs me that he's just recycling actors.... I just feel she's going to bring some new, modern vibe to the movie that's going to ruin the magic and make it look...old. UGH! I get shivers just thinking about it. Bringing legolas back in wouldn't bug me because at least it makes sense for him to be there! BUT THIS?!? I just can't take.
It makes sense though...bring Legolas back for the gals, but also brining in something pretty for the boys... :ugeek:
I'd rather see Legolas than Itaril for the simple reason that at least he is a Tolkienian character, even if Orly isn't exactly eye candy for me. I see your point, though.
Its unwarranted meddling is what it is. TH does not need a love story- no matter how much the studio might want to get the Twilight teen girl market. Stop this madness at once PJ! Are you bloody listening?
As to what you said, Jolly, there doesn't need to be something pretty for the boys. Most of them don't need something pretty because LOTR is more of a male type genre of movie, if you get me. PJ's main concern should be attracting girls. Problem solved if you have hot men in the movie And I'd hardly call Saorise whats her name enough eye candy to draw flocks of boys. Only Megan Fox will do that.
As to what you said, Jolly, there doesn't need to be something pretty for the boys. Most of them don't need something pretty because LOTR is more of a male type genre of movie, if you get me. [/quote:39mfcevt] There's much truth in this, I think. And besides, it would be morally reprehensible for a lot of boys/men to be attracted to a 16 year old girl
Great! So now we've got some jail bait teen romance story in TH. Will there ever be any good news emerging about this film? And for those who seem to think Frodo will get some simple part reading from the Red Book I have this to ask. If thats the case whats Drogo doing in it? He has no part in Bilbo's story and would not fit the contented bachelor state Bilbo is in the start, he's there for some horrible bridging bit I reckon, it all sounds too horrid to comprehend. And unless I've missed it they haven't cast for any Sackville-Baggins roles. They should be at the auction at the end, measuring the rooms to see if their furniture will fit. But they have cast Drogo. Odd that. Adding in the fact they've cast as Throin an actor whose main skill is making women go weak at the knees at a hundred paces this is all looking very bad for the simple tale of TH.
The fact that they haven't cast any Sackville-Bagginses is slightly worrying. It could (not saying it does) suggest that the auction won't be in the movie at all. They could of course do the auction without the SBs, but having them in would make much more sense, particularly since they're aslo mentioned in FotR.
The auction is not important, just like the Scourging wasn't. Let's stick to what (allegedly) pleases the Masses. :x
Indeed!
may as well face facts - this is not the hobbit they are making but LOTR, the two part prequel! The hobbit story is there only so they can explain how Frodo got the ring! The hobbit with white council/necromancer stuff chucked in is going to make no sense (no overall story arc). They have said they won't make the hobbit and a bridging movie due to timeline issues! So for the two part story to make sense you have to graft a different overall arc (how mordor rose again and the lost ring was found!!) :? :x - overall aim is not to make the hobbit, so additions, cuts and generally faffing about are sure to be invovled Personally, would prefer companion movies - The Hobbit and also the LOTR single prequel!
"The hobbit with white council/necromancer stuff chucked in is going to make no sense (no overall story arc)."- Kafria Thats my biggest worry Kafria, it will need to have a story arc to work as a film, but there isn't one for all that in TH,and that means they are going to make one up. Somehow they are going to tie the two strands together into one plot. Something terrible like having Smaug working for the Necromancer, and I am pretty certain that somehow the success of Bilbo's quest will be tied up with the success of the WC, with one depending upon the other. As they did with LotR they are making the job hard for themselves and creating all sorts of scripting problems and we know how that turned out! Assuming the films total 4-5 hours long we will be lucky at this rate to get an hour of genuine Hobbit story, and ones wonders if even any of that will remain unmucked about with? I doubt it.
Kafria - I've had similar sentiments to that. It is rather discouraging to me, because prequels tend to be weaker than the original, especially when they try to shoehorn in as many of the old characters as possible. The Hobbit, the book, isn't a prequel, and the story stands on its own, but I'm afraid the movies don't seem to be shaping up to be like that. I can't say I was ever enthused by the idea of the bridge movie either, for much the same reason. I'd prefer a single Hobbit film - I like when franchises know when enough is enough and don't keep trying to milk it.
Sometimes I almost suspect mischief at play --- is Itaril just a rumour to put us all off the scent?
Please, please let that be true. Let it all be a bad dream.
Sorry, Petty. This just in: the role Geordie the Goat[/url:6jyr6so8] was cast for is actually Itaril! :?
Now I'm intrigued, it says that Geordie will be pulling a cart, when will Itaril pull a cart in her pursuit of love? :?
Maybe the Coven plan to have Donkey from Shrek in it as the goats love interest. He can be one of Beorn's wisecracking servants and Itaril an elven goat, never having seen fields of grass and yearning for goaty freedom from Thranduils Halls (Bilbo can put her in a barrel with Donkey). A beautiful love story, with slapstick, pretty sure thats their plan anyway. Much better than some silly story about a hobbit and some grumpy dewarves.
   And he'll make waffles for her every morning!
See, clearly this film is going to be brilliant!

The recent announcement of a new character named 'Tauriel' to The Hobbit cast will be played by Evangeline Lilly. Peter Jackson's descibes this character as a true sylvan elf and a daughter of Mirkwood with no romantic links to Legolas.

Well its got a lot of fans guessing and making suggestions as to what the storyline for this character will be.

So PJ is "improving" the story again for the modern masses, I see.

I had to google the name and she's pretty enough, I suppose.. I can't wait to see her surfing on Orc shields.

Ayup...

I'm with all those who despair when 'New' Characters are put in to pad things out... There's enuff happening within the story itself to keep us engrossed, so why more ? If it's to pull in the young female Marketing sector, then I'm just SO Disappointed...

I know that there's a section of Academia that thinks Tolkien was something of a Misogynist, but he already HAD his 'Luthien' in his wife, Edith, to whom he was devoted. And I guess only 'Needed' female Characters where he put them. Isn't that good enuff for our weird 'All Inclusive' Society nowadays ?
