I don't know if anyone else has heard of it but there's been a film out recently of which prequels the LotR. I first heard about it when I was reading the Observer and there was a review of the film, I think it had a limited budget but as far as acting goes I think it's pretty good. There's a video on the Guardian website, here's the link.

Happy viewing and if you've already heard of it or even seen it, do share some info.

I saw it a while ago and wasn't as impressed as most people seem to be. I liked the broader scope and more developed story in contrast to The Hunt for Gollum, but in other aspects it didn't seem quite as good to me, though I'm not entirely sure why. The digital troll was nice though. 8-)
I really liked Born of Hope myself. I think maybe the editing could have been improved. The pacing seemed a bit unbalanced. But story, acting, ad special effects were all well done.

I enjoyed it a lot and felt they used language better than Jackson did. I was not a fan of PJ's modernizing of a lot of Tolkiens dialogue, and although the dialogue in BoH is not to Tolkien standards it seemed it was a lot closer than PJ got.
Only complaint I have is the connecting of the Necromancer to Sauron, if the heirs of Isildur knew this they would have told Elrond and he the White Council and they'd have known a bit sooner and Gandalf could have been spared a dangerous trip into Dol Guldur to find out. But that was only narrative mistake I noticed.
Good catch Petty. I missed that one myself  .

Hi all, I just watched Born of Hope and enjoyed it, I have a question though.
In the credits there is a list of hobbits.. among others that weren't in the movie.
Is there going to be more to it or has there been and I missed it?
I appreciate any explanation.
Yeah, where are the Hobbits? :x I don't remember seeing any either. :?

I may be wrong but I beleive the 'hobbits', 'wizards', 'eagle' etc are people who donated money and/or time to the making of the film in order of contribution size.
Okay, that makes sense <img src='/images/smileys/smile.gif' border='0' alt='Smile Smilie' /> .

According to [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1249966/Lord-Rings-fanatic-reaps-fruit-labour-self-funded-prequel-Born-Of-Hope-scores-500-000-views-internet.html:5r2zcdsy]The Daily Mail[/url:5r2zcdsy] most of the budget came from donations, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case.
yeah, tyrant was correct. Each donor was labelled with a "level name" by the amount they donated.
It really is fantastic the positive response that fan films like this one and The Hunt for Gollum have received. It's a real shot in the arm for dedicated people who want to create their own Fan Films.

And I am extremely dedicated to supporting indie films (since I've made two), and so anything that has the heart that BoH has is on my favorite list. No, it wasn't perfect, it was indie. It was professional, granted, and it had a lot of people who [i:233yevy0]believed[/i:233yevy0] in the project. And that's what matters.
I really loved this movie just because it was driven by dedicated fans. It's well made even though I had some problems with it as a movie. The acting was just alright, the story really dragged in the middle, and honestly I don't really care how Aragorn's parents got together. I don't think there needed to be an hour and a half long movie dedicated to this, I'd much rather see movies like this that tell stories that take place in the first and second age of Middle Earth. Whatever problems I have with it as a movie though are just small potatoes. I love these movies (hope, gollum) and really hope they continue to make them.
