Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this, But, can anyone please tell me what the first line of the tengwar script on the right hand side of this page says? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Elbereth_Gilthoniel Thanks in advance

Hello. The first line intends to read: A Elbereth Gilthoniel.

And yes, this is the correct forum, as the 'writing' section is supposed to concern the writing systems.

Thank you, I'm new to the froum you see.

And considering that... welcome! by the way.

I like the Mode of Beleriand myself (the mode on the page you noted), although modes with more tehtar seem popular these days, at least for tattoos.

That's why I'm asking for a tattoo, I wanted Elbereth Gilthoniel, but then I thought of tengwar, so if you have any images that would be a great help. And thank you =)

I found another example that copies Tolkien's own writing a bit closer, the version decorating the back cover to The Road Goes Ever On anyway (a book published by Tolkien himself):

As in this example, here Tolkien did not use a dot to distinguish the letter representing the vowel i (the current picture on wikipedia employs a stylized 'dot' to distinguish this vowel).

Also (although this is probably obvious enough) the text reads _A_ Elbereth Gilthoniel here, so if you want just Elbereth Gilthoniel you will not, of course, include the first letter or tengwa  (which letter looks like a Roman c).

Awesome, thank you so much for all your help =)

No problem.

And incidentally, using the dot to distinguish the vowel i is not wrong, but seemingly optional for this mode, but as I say, in any case Tolkien didn't use it for gilthoniel in the version that decorates RGEO.
