Perwing gets the pretty pretty this time. Happy Elf Smilie

What is a thangail Question Smilie
Hint: It was something Gimli said. Elf Winking Smilie
I think its the hard and pretty much tasteless buscuit called cram, which though quite bland was nevertheless very nutritional.
Val's got it right, so he gets the pretty bauble this time. Happy Elf Smilie
Quote:
The food was mostly in the form of very thin cakes, made of a meal that was baked a light brown on the outside, and on the inside was the colour of cream. Gimli took up one of the cakes and looked at it with a doubtful eye.

'Cram,' he said under his breath, as he broke off a crisp corner and nibbled at it. His expression quickly changed, and he ate all the rest of the cake with relish.

'No more, no more!' cried the Elves laughing. 'You have eaten enough already for a long day's march.'

'I thought it was only a kind of cram, such as the Dalemen make for journeys in the wild,' said the Dwarf.

'So it is,' they answered, 'But we call it lembas or waybread, and it is more strengthening than any food made by man, and it is more pleasant than cram, by all accounts.'

'Indeed it is,' said Gimli. 'Why, it is better than the honey-cakes of the Beornings, and that is great praise, for the Beornings are the best bakers that I know of; but they are none too willing to deal out their cakes to travelers in these days. You are kindly hosts!'

-- From Book II of FOTR about four pages into Chapter 8 entitled 'Farewell to Lórien.'

I don't remember the exact words. something about three riding back together instead of one, and this is the end of the fellowship in ME. and uh....it's ok to cry sometimes, blah blah blah
Right, Komosot had the flavor of his speach which was good enough to win the Pseudo-Silmaril.

What was in the cover picture on Ballantine's 1965 American edition of The Hobbit Question Smilie
Yes, I know this is a hard one.

No, I didn't disable our Book Covers in our Art Gallery menu over there on your the left. That happened before I posted the above question. Besides, I don't think Taz has this one in his collection. I think this was the one I read in 1967 and gave to my little brother. I also think it was done by the same artist and in the same style as the covers on the editions of the trilogy that Ballantine also issued at that time. Of course I may be wrong as it has been many years since I have seen those covers, but the artwork from the that trilogy graces Donald Swann's music book, The Road Goes Ever On, which I still have.
Okay, the answer is: "A lion, two emus, and a tree bearing bulbous fruit." What that had to do with the story I know not, but I remember now that the cover was similar to those of the trilogy which showed: Hobbit, the bulbous fruited tree, two emus and black birds on FotR; a mountain, tower, spider, river, and ariel black riders on TTT; and a volcano, war banners, mountains, and monsters on RotK.

So a new question then:

Who was the greatest of all Dwarven smiths Question Smilie
Im going to guess Telchar but i could be wrong. I still think Telchar is the greatest though Smoke Smilie
BTW, not sure if this is allowed, but i'd like to change my answer to Gamil Zirak
Gamil Zirak was Telchar's master and perhaps mentor, and was also well renowned, so im just covering up the holes Wink Smilie
Hmm, now that you mention it, Telchar did make angrist, narsil, and the dragon-helm. Ok....i'd like to change my answer back to Telchar, lol. Tongue Smilie
How do you guys know these things?

I've read the sil a few times UT, LOTR a few times and the hobbit a few times, but i can never think off the answer i keep forgetting stuff
Telchar is the answer for which I was looking. So Komosot gets the Pseudo-Silmaril. Happy Elf Smilie

However Komosot, I will have to ask you to let the next question be up for 24 hours before you answer it so that other people who are asleep when I post the questions have a chance at them. Were I to post more than one question a day, I might run out of them or at least have to did deeper to come up with new ones.

Anyway, after anyone correctly answers a question, please let the next one remain unanswered for 24 hours before answering it. That way no one will be hogging the action. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

Thanks

Elf With a Big Grin Smilie No mellie's answer is correct; however, she made her post while I was busy composing my post to Komosot; thus, I hadn't yet seen her answer when I finally made my post. The time lapse was due to my taking time out in the middle to raid the refrigerator for a Diet Dr. Pepper as I remember.
