from Ainulindalë in the Sil..... it says that Eru gave them sight...after they had created the music of ainur....

It doesn't say the couldn't see. I think Peredhil is right in sudjesting that you are talking about the vision of their music and what would come in to being.

Also the fact that the void into whch Eru showed them the vision was a featureless blackness up until then may have also caused confusion.
