Just this weekend, Peter Jackson revealed that the two "Hobbit" films will now start filming mid-summer 2010 instead of the previously-reported March start. We didn't think this would affect the first film's release of December 2011, but according to TheWrap's WaxWord that might just be the case:

"While it is still possible that it could come out in December 2011, it looks more likely to be 2012," an executive close to the film told the site.

The second film would be pushed back to 2013 then.

I love how they claim that PJ revealed this and then mention that it was merely an unnamed executive who is "close to the film". Given all the false alarms over various things that we've had I'm going to wait until PJ (the part that mentioned him was the one [b:14v0vl5i]not[/b:14v0vl5i] cited in this article, incidentally) or GDT themselves, or at least someone in an official position who has a name, tell us something. I don't know if anyone else remembers but this isn't the first time we've seen this rumor.

Unfortunately, it does appear to be true. The Screening Log
(http://www.screeninglog.com/journal/200 ... t-yet.html)

quotes a translated interview with Jackson:

“We’re currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next. When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we’ve received no green light from the studio yet.”

The lack of a green light worries me, I must admit. As it seems to worry Jackson - in the German original, the last line is closer to:

"We hope to begin filming in the middle of next year, but unfortunately we have not yet received a green light from the studio."

Should we panic yet  ?

*pats self on back* Calm Down GB. Del Toro and Jackson have a proven track record. Of Course they will get the green light. Just hurry up and finish the script already  .

Filming being pushed back we knew about already, but that automatically doesn't mean the release date will be pushed back as well. I am - still - going to wait for word from PJ himself. Also, Kristin Thompson (author of The Frodo Franchise) has a nice piece about why the green light stuff isn't particular cause for concern.

Also, why wouldn't they get the green light? It's the Hobbit, which is guarenteed millions because of the previous movies and the books ( and us of course  ) I just need them to finish so we can find out who BILBO BAGGINS IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
