Female roles in the Hobbit

This thought came to me when I heard they were casting for the Hobbit recently. I would throughly enjoy to be a part of the Hobbit, and wanted to try out (only casting's in LA and i'm no where near there...) when a thought struck me. What female roles are in the Hobbit to try out for???? I know they need to have some leading ladies, but who?

(and still, if there is any way to send in a tape or something, let me know!!!!!)

Female roles in the Hobbit

There are none! Not even Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is mentioned. In fact, the only female who gets mentioned by name is Belladonna Took (Bilbo's mother), but she is of course dead before the book begins. As far as I remember there are no speaking female roles in The Hobbit, unless one or more of the spiders were female....

In PJ and GDT's creation though Eru knows what roles there might be. Galadriel at least will feature somehow since PJ wants Cate Blanchett to return.

There were no females in the book, but I suppose Arwen could be seen with a young Aragorn in Rivendell, providing her role is minimal (just like Legolas could have a cameo - even Gimli cast as Gloin). If they have the White Council they could have more females (including, of course, Galadriel), but I'll say no more on that, as everyone already knows my opinion on the White Council business.

I suspect that there might be female members of the White Council cast, as well as a few female Mirkwood Elves, and people of Laketown. But outside of Galadriel, and possibly Arwen, most of those roles will be as extras, not Leads.

I was thinking of the leads. You're right, GB, of course there can be lady elves and the women of Laketown. There would be a few Bilbo and Co see while riding their ponies out of Hobbiton. At first they pass through civilized lands where they might even see human women - especially if they pass through Bree.

I agree the spiders should be female , since most all species of spiders the females are bigger and nasty temperament !

Come on Bard needs a love interest...

and one or two of the Dwarves could be a women... Fili and Kili, could be sisters , Thorin's nieces.

Yes, but as long as they have beards we'll never know (unless they are shirtless ;) ).

Well, I guess there really are no female leads, though if you look behind the curtain, there sort of is. Hobbits are farely feminine, and Bilbo, having some very feminine qualities, fits the need for both a woman and man role.
Darn! I really wanted to try for a part!! :(
But of course, I'm still interested :)

The way you're talking, Tin, you should audition for the Bilbo part! You'd have little trouble finding his feminine side, surely!! ;)

I would love it!!!! but I'm no Hobbit. If anything, I'd be an elf or a woman.
How would they tie in a love interest to Bard? how old is he at the time? and isn't he a more loner type person?
