Hey!

Anyway, I'll add my voice to the crowd saying that we shouldn't forget that [i:2h73i8ld]The Hobbit[/i:2h73i8ld] is a children's book, though in a way I think it's a book for all ages. Very small children can read it and be delighted at the wonder in it (I recall I was), while older people can read it and see more in the story. It's like [i:2h73i8ld]Harry Potter[/i:2h73i8ld] and [i:2h73i8ld]The Chronicles of Narnia[/i:2h73i8ld]: children's books that can be enjoyed by all, without any need to make them more 'serious'.

(((Why doesn't anyone believe me? Maybe they're all infected with the E.I.A. Bug I've heard tell of...-(and just made up)-... that could be it! Ah! The Internet Virus Demiurge must know I'm after him! Should have known! Oh Gawd! The dreaded Eiabug has been set loose!

(((This may actually be a job for Pizza Man -- oh that's right -- it's not on anymore...)))
(((Maybe this should be on the Doctor Who Thread anyway?

Tuor or Turin, Turin or Tuor. One of them, both of them.

Melkor/Morgoth - if it weren't for him, we wouldnt have the Sil, Hobbit, or LotR!

As a character, the best built up in a literary way I think is Túrin, his dark story is one of the best things ever written by Tolkien. Maybe is my best character, for all the things he had to carry with and the magnificence of his quests, after all. He mix some other mitologys: Sigfried, Edipo...
But I like so much the elves in this book. They are grandious, but not the perfect, beautiful and unbreakeable elves from the LOTR. Here, the elves can also be evil, and his heart be poisoned by Melkor, like the men.

My favorite character is Earendil, The thought of him eternally guarding the sky like a beacon of the Valar is amazing. Equally Arien and Tilion.
For me, it has to be Luthien..I mean she even brought Morgoth down off his throne...if there was a film made, I have dreamed I might get to play her...she is described as "The most beuatiful child of Ilyuvator tat ever has been or ever will be"......oh....ok...well, that lets me out then....I wonder which actress could play the part.....?
have to say my favorite has always been Túrin Turambar I think that he shows the best and worst of men but overall he to me is a very likable and beleivable character, I almost felt physical pain for him after he had slain his friend Saeros.
oh yes, mm83...what a tortured hero...everything went wrong for him...at least he managed to kill the dragon.....what a tragedy..his wife,, i mean sister...Incest in Tolkien, eh ?...this is really dark stuff...
Turin is probably the saddest single person in the book (the entire lost kingdom and forgotten glory theme beats all).
My favorite character is Curufinwe, more commonly known as Feanor. He's brilliant, stubborn, and altogether unique in the entire saga. Pity he was somewhat corrupted by Morgoth, though...
