Unfortunately Sindal cannot have special kitty treats because of her chronic kidney disease, but I will undoubtedbly buy her a new toy. Cat Smilie Big Smile Smilie
We, probably will get the dogs some more chew toys, and somthing to play with. The cats always get a bag of toys, and what ever box our presents come in. They love the boxes
Our will get some grey shrimps. The pink ones aren't good enough to mademoiselle (she would shew a bit on one an spit it out again).

Love those swanky airs. Big Laugh Smilie
I have tried three seperate kinds of treats on my cat and she hasn't liked any of them. Any suggestions?

IMHO, any cat that is that persnickety deserves both a tiara and a pea under her bedding, or else a lump of coal in his stocking. Smiling Santa Smilie
Found this in my mail yesterday and decided to clean up a couple naughty words and share it with my fellow cat thralls who have all found themselves in this situation and really could have used a tad bit more in the way of instructions as to how to proceed. Wiggle Smilie

HOW TO GIVE A CAT A PILL

1) Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat close mouth and swallow.

2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat the process.

3) Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4) Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

6) Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler in to mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously.

7) Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8) Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

9) Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cool water and soap.

10) Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck, leave head showing. Force mouth open with desert spoon. Shoot pill down throat with rubber band.

11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink Beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus jab. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12) Ring fire brigade to retrieve the feisty cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat.

Take last pill from foil wrap.

13) Tie the little beauty's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of fillet steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

14) Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches finger and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Stop by furniture shop on way home and order new table.

And Val's right about that last bit. My dog is taking phenobarbital and tetracycline to control seizures. All I do is wrap it in a piece of balogna and it goes down whole Big Laugh Smilie

I've never tried to give a cat a pill but my aunt and her daughter have always had lots of cats and have had to administer medications in pill form on many occasions. Their method is very similar to step 6... minus the ruler Big Laugh Smilie

Hehe that's so cute LadyFeawen!

How to give a cat a bath:
1. Thoroughly clean the toilet.
2. Add the required amount of shampoo to the toilet water, and have both lids lifted.
3. Obtain the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.
4. In one swift movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids (you may need to stand on the lid so that he cannot escape).
CAUTION: Do not get any part of your body too close to the edge, as his paws will be reaching out for any purchase they can find.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a 'power wash and rinse' which I have found to be quite effective.
6. Have someone open the door to the outside and ensure that there are no people between the toilet and the outside door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.
8. The now clean cat will rocket out of the toilet, and run outside where he will dry himself.

Sincerely,
The Dog
Here's another funy one:

The Truth About Dogs and Cats. The following addition to the Book of Genesis was purportedly discovered in the Dead Sea Scrolls. If authentic, it would shed light on the question, "Where did pets come from?"

And Adam said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked with me everyday. Now I do not see you anymore. I am lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much you love me." And God said, "I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will know I love you, even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish and childish and unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased. And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, "But Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and all the good names are taken and I cannot think of a name for this new animal." And God said, "Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."

And Dog lived with Adam and was a companion to him and Eve and loved them. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

It came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He struts and preens like a peacock and believes he is worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but no one has taught him humility." And the Lord said, "I will create for him a companion who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is. The companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know he is not worthy of adoration."

And God created Cat to be a companion for Adam. And Cat would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam learned humility. And God was pleased. And Adam was greatly improved. And Cat didn't really give a shit one way or the other.
I have a funny cat story that happened here last Thursday or Friday. Only three of our cats go in our bedroom, Cookie, Freeloader and Stray Cat. Since Matthew and I never go to bed at the same time, Cookie usually sleeps at my feet, Freeloader sleeps next to me closest to the edge of the bed, and Stray on my other side, between Matthew and I. Well, we went to bed about the same time last week and Stray could not get between us, in his spot. We were both sound asleep and all of a sudden Matthew sits up and start yelling and screaming and swearing and a cat goes flying across the room. Groggy, I am trying to figure out what had happened to make Stray take flight. Matthew runs in to the Bathroom and starts washing his hair. Stray had decided to mark his territory, ON MATTHEW’S HEAD! Therefore, I get up and put Stray outside so that Matthew can’t kill him. I knew better than to let him know that I thought it was funny at the time, but I was dying laughing. After Matthew went back to sleep I was wide-awake and went in and soaked in the tub for a bit and just giggled. Stray is now back to being an outside cat and can only come in the house if I lock him in the bathroom. I still have not figured out if Stray was jealous because Matthew was in his spot or that Stray decided that Matthew belonged to him now. It could be both, because Stray is a very loving cat and loves to cuddle us both. Well, whatever the reason, Stray lost a friend the other day
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Sorry Matthew, but that story brought tears to my eyes, I was laughing so hard.

We now have another reason to get our cats fixed. Big Laugh Smilie
Cats are EEEEVIL my cat is both that and insane. It attacks me!and i'm even 5'7. Everytime I pet my friends or try to anyway it scratches me, and then it walks away and starts purring. I also think cats are a bit scitso.
Those are funny Andrea Big Laugh Smilie
Mellie, one of the many reasons we dont have in-side cats. Wink Smilie Tongue Smilie
Grondy, Stray is fixed, and has been since Matthew brought him home to me. This is not even one of the cats I brought home. So, he can't blame this one on me.
My cat Blackie never wanted to cuddle or even be near us untill we got her fixed, now she doesn't run away from us (as much) and jumps up in the couch and lies down besides us. One time she jumped straight on to my tummy and lied down! She's still insane but she's much nicer now. Smile Smilie

I caught her and her cat friend "Tassen" bullying a frog the other day.. Naughty girl! I saved it and it gave me a surprincingly bright little croak, it sounded more like singing. It was awfully cute actually. Wink Smilie

My Ollie is dead now,I miss him so much.He got ran over early in the morning a couple of weeks ago.
Amarie,I saw pictures of Blackie, shes so cute! I always have wanted a black cat.
Hopefully I will be able to get more cats, and have some more joyouse storys to tell you.Until then!
R.I.P Ollie. Sad Smilie
I am so sorry to hear about Ollie, LadyF. That is so sad. It is always hard to lose a pet. They become such a huge part of your family. I am sure you will never forget Ollie, and your love for him will never die. I have had several pets pass away and I never seem to get used to it. I give you a heartfelt hug.
It is sad when we lose a pet or when a pet loses its master.

Has everyone seen the singing cat that Prog posted the link to, under Rotk the movie? In case you haven't, here is a copy of the link that he dedicated to Ross: Elf With a Big Grin Smilie http://www2.b3ta.com/singing-kitten/

It is so bad it is good, and I figured it would get lost over there, which is why I thought it ought to show up here.
Thank you Grondy, the pain does stop when I rip into PJ! Big Laugh Smilie
OMG, that is soooo funny. ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
I showed the singing kitty to my little brother, hehe, he started to get chokey! Tongue Smilie But I loved it,I didn't cry too much Wink Smilie
I don't like cats much, kittens are ok. I like dogs and birds. Smile Smilie

Ok, everyone remember this story about Stray Cat? Well I have another one about him. Unfortunately this one is not funny, but is still in progress and seems like it is going to have a good ending.

This week, I noticed that he was not feeling well. On, Wednesday, I called my sister, to come by and pick him up and take him to work with her the next day because she works in a vet clinic. Throughout the day, Kari calls me keeps telling me that he is not doing well, and he is getting worse. I talked to her like 10 times that day, and spent most of the day crying. That afternoon, Dr. Ross calls and tells me that he has Feline Leukemia and does not think he is going to make it through the night. Of course, I just bawled my eyes out. Kari called me back and said that there was a chance and wanted to know if I wanted to try it, or just put him to sleep. I said sure. Stray ended up having a blood transfusion and is on all kinds of meds. Kari took me up to the clinic and we picked Stray up and he came home with me Thursday night. I had decided that if he was going to die during the night, then he was not going to die in a cage in a cold vet clinic alone. Well, he has now made it through 2 nights and is feeling much much better.

I have a feeling that I am going to be going through Grondy's

postBody a lot for a while though.
But how come?? Sad Smilie Cats are so cute!!! Specially kittens, that's true...but still I have two cats and I really love them
I feel sorry for stray cats, but I don't think anyone should spend hundreds of dollars trying to resussitate a sick one. Sure, once it has become family I might, but it still seems excessive. Kirov our once upon a time blue point Burmese foundling adopted us. He was a nice cat, though he cost us a fortune in meds and rugs. So my first statement doesn't really hold much water, other than I'm a softy.
Poor Stray and Mellie, Matt and FrogBoy Sad Smilie

I usually kneel down on the floor with the cat between my my legs and one arm around the cat till i can get a hold of cats mouth as said above and bend her head gently backwards towards my chest, and then she usually can't get away and the pill usually goes down on the third-fifth try. Simple.

That's how I usually did it too Amarië, though after the pill was inserted I tried to gently close the mouth and stroke the throat. Cat Smiling Smilie This usually worked by the second try. Their tongue is what usually knocks the pill out of their mouth and you don't want to punch holes in it, Super Scared Smilie so be very gentle in trying to close their mouth.

Oh dear!! I'd hate myself forever if i did that! I always close her mouth gently and stroke her throat. I had more practice in this when we gave her birthcontoll pills once a week. That ususally went on the first try.

But as our family cat got cancer Very Sad Smilie because of the pills, we had Blackie on the pill for about a year (mostly just to get used to the idea for no kittens) then we let the vet cut her open and remove most of what was female inside. It actually became possible to pick her up and cuddle after that! Yey!!
Hum. When I gave my cats pills I mostly just mashed it with two spoons and spread it over something for them delicious. Worked every time. Smile Smilie

If I ever gave them a whole pill, they'd just go out and eat grass to puke it up. Cats. They are so stubborn. And much too intellectual for their own good. Wink Smilie

I had no idea you could do that!Do you get a special type of animal pill or something?
It's best to give them a liquid form of a pill so that way they don't get hurt when trying to get 'em to swallow it.
Well, I thought I would let everyone know, that after I left that postBody, I Stray went down hill, and we had to put him to sleep this morning and we just came home from burying him,

Sobbing.
Very Sad Smilie I'm sorry to hear that Mellie, I know how much he meant to you. Nothing but compassion here. *hugs*
Thanks hun, I really appreciate that.

I should know better than to get so attached to a stray that we were not even going to keep. But then again, he did stay with us for over a year and a half, and he cuddled me every night. He even slept on the pillow next to my head. When we finally decided that he was going to stay with is, he had already started answering to Stray Kitty, and it was too late to give him a real name.
Oh I'm so sorry Mellie! We do get attached to them whatever we call them.. Very Sad Smilie

I remember when we had to put down our family cat because of cancer, I was 14 and I cried all day. The next time mom boiled fish it reminded me of my dear kitty and I cried my eyes out again. Dreamt about her at least two times, where she was there and I pet her and said "But Tøfflus, why are you here? You're dead." The next two or three years after I put a rose on her grave on her death day. For a long time every black object in the corner of my eye made me turn my head 'cause it looked like her. So nothing but compassion and understanding from me too. Sad Smilie
Thanks Amarie, I knew you would understand, and at least he is not suffering anymore.
I think we have all had our share of pets dying. I myself had to put down my cat Mimsan, just some months ago. It was so horrible, she had been my cat since I was 1 years old. She got cancer this summer, 17 years old. It was horrible to see her change so dramatically, from being the most wonderful cat in the world, into not even having the strength to jump up in my bed and lie down on her pillow next to me.. I still miss her and I'm still waiting for her to come to my room when I'm going to bed. But of course, she never comes. Very Sad Smilie

I know exactly what you're talking about, Amarië, I can still see Oliver sometimes. It gets your hope up and you turn around and to your great disappointment you see that it was just a black bag, or something like that.

My thoughts are with you and Stray, Mellie. I know you took great care of him his last hours and I am sure that eased his suffering a whole lot. It is not every day you stumble on such a devoted animal keeper as Mellie, I must say. hum.. Whish there was something I can do..
Thanks Aire, you are so sweet. He is really missed around here, but I am happier, that he is not suffering. My Schmoo, has been licking my tears off my face. I am very lucky to have such a great family and friends.
I am so sorry Mellie. I, too, know how your heart aches right now. I lost Newt 10 days ago. He was severely injured y a hit and run driver and we had to put him our of his misery as nothing could be done to save him. He was only 2 years old. Like Amarie, the corner of my eye catches a glimpse and wants to invite him to my lap, but it is not him.
Sindal is now 16 years old and I don't even want to think about the inevitable.
I send a special hug to Mellie, Robbie and Matthew as they remember Stray.
A salute to our feline friends, past and present, who have brought us great comfort and unconditional love. Cat Smiling Smilie
That's too bad Mellie! Very Sad Smilie I hate it when we have to put any animal down at the animal shelter. We recently had to put one down because it had kitty cancer, like human leukemia. I was just starting to like him too, I even called him Pazu instead of just cat...
I know she isn't a cat, but as you all know we may have to put my wonderful Sophie dog to sleep too Very Sad Smilie
They're like children, you can't just replace them and it's terrible to loose them...
I'm sorry for your losses, Mellie, Rednell, Andrea, Aire and everyone else who've lost their pets. I love cats, but the saddest (and weirdest) thing, no white cat can survive in my house! None of us know why, but we've lost 4 white cats; 1 was hit by a car, 3 went missing. It's so sad because all of them were so cute, and after the 4th one we decided not to take in anymore white cats. But then we found another one and my sister fell in love with him, brought him home and named him Snowball (because he look like one Wink Smilie ) I was worried of what might happen to him, but luckily as he grows up he began to grow patches of black fur, so he doesn't look like a snowball anymore but what matters is he's still with us! Big Smile Smilie

Naira: Sure he does! After a snowball as been around for awhile, if it hasn't melted it gathers dust from its environ and becomes dirty looking. So you can just say Snowball is a dirty old snowball of a cat. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie
Big Laugh Smilie Guess my version of snowball is made from newly-fallen snow Big Smile Smilie
That´s really great Naira! I hope the curse has lifted from your house! Wink Smilie Tongue Smilie

Wow, this is sooooo great!! I have gotten a cat!!! She is the cutest! She´s grey with stripes and she has a white tummy Big Smile Smilie. She is sooo small too prob half the size of my last cat. Her name is Trollet and she has a bad habit of biting and scratching when she has had enough of cuddeling but I don´t care! Big Smile Smilie One thing I do care about though is that she won´t move in with us yet, she´ll come in about two weeks. Sad Smilie I can´t wait!!
Hey I knew I'd find you here ae, and when I saw last postBody "Cats and their ways" I knew you had written it...So congratulations for this cat that you love!!
Ae, your new cat is so cute!!I hope he has a good long life,do you plan to have him as an inside pet?
Big Smile Smilie
Oh let Trollet (great name!) play outside if possible, they are tiny tigers after all. And so cute when they chase bees and butterflys. Not having to change that litter box is also a pluss! Wink Smilie Good luck with your kitten Ae, take lots of pictures, they grow up so fast. Cat Smilie
I agree with the "getting taller" part amarie...As for me the last three cats my sis had (one ran away and another one was too sick so we put him to sleep Sad Smilie ) were all of the size of kittens, maybe a bit bigger.
As for bees and butterflies, I think they look wondeful when playing with them, but I can say that when the cat gets the bee (pigeon in my case) and eats it in my room, it's not very funny Mad Smilie . little anecdote, that's all, just my own experience... Wink Smilie . the good thing is that when I'm on the couch watching TV and the cat is around I just call him and he comes watching TV with me lying on my stomach...cutest thing in the world, isn't it?
