I thought about putting some ot Val's excellent History of Middle Earth Brainteaser questions here, like the ten or fifteen for which I still haven't been able to dig up any answers; however, I decided that wouldn't be fair. Big Smile Smilie
You can do that in October, Grondy.
And a Pseudo-Silmaril to Tommie.

Yes, Tommy, it was. It was also two of the ones I missed, since it counted as 2 answers. But since I know the answer now, I will also let someone else answer it.
Tongue Smilie Think I'll take this one up then. I didn't think he had any, right? Cool Smilie
Millie, I was trying to suggest, not order. Smile Smilie And as it has been almost a full day, and the rest of the world didn't come up with the correct answer, you may as we do so now. Big Smile Smilie
Sorry Mellie, I cannot resist because this is from my favorite chapter of The Hobbit:

Quote:
`Chestnuts, chestnuts,` he hissed, `Teeth! Teeth! My preciousss; but we has only six`

I love listening to J R R read this chapter on a tape put out by Harper Collins called The Hobbit. Tolkien reads Riddles in the Dark and various poems from Lord of the Rings.

The answer is: 6

[Edited on 13/9/2002 by Rednell]

What was the unusual hair-color of the Rohirrim, and what name did the Dunlendings give them as a result Question Smilie
The Dunlendings called them the Forgoil which means strawheads. I guess that means the Rohirrim either went into battle wearing straw boaters on their heads or were perhaps blond.
Strawberry blond!

*scrolls up*
D*mn! Val got there first! Tongue Smilie

Big Laugh Smilie

I'm guessing that would be Mt Gundabad.
Good guess that, Val. A Pseudo-Silmaril to you. Smile Smilie

Mount Gundabad is located near the junction if the Grey Mountains and the Misty Mountains. Many of the Orcs relocated here after the submergence of Beleriand. And from here they spread during the Second Age of Middle-earth. Read Smilie

What trees were peculiar to Lórien Question Smilie
I was lurking here, behind the very said tree, waiting for Grondy's next question, but it'd be a bit unfair for me to dash in with an answer a few minutes after it's been set. Over to someone else with this one... I'm going to spend my time trying to find some way of making these Pseudo-Silmarils permanent.

By the way... Only a week left to send me your answers on the Brainteaser that I set in the "History of" section.
Ha ha.... Fooled you Grondy.

Bet you thought I'd poached your previous question when you saw my name flash up on the Index Board. Big Laugh Smilie
Well maybe just for a moment, but I'm trying to be an optimist and hoping that people will share the questions unless they have hung unanswered for 24 hours--sort of a courtesy gesture don't you know.

Besides that Val, anyone who doesn't know the answer has never finished reading "The Grey Havens". Big Smile Smilie
