Welcome. I noticed some of the posts were getting quite a lot of comments so thought it might be time to put up a forum where regulars can chat in a better environment.
At the moment it seems sensible to leave just the one general forum on the hobbit movies. I thought about setting a few up such as movie 1, movie 2, Del Toro etc. but as the topics would overlap it probably wouldn't work.
Anyway, we'll see how it goes.......
Thread: Welcome to the Hobbit movie forum

Hi Ady, Thanks for creating this forum. I am really enjoying the conversations i've had here. Particularly with Paul and Show. Ihope you don't mind when the subject strays a bit. I usually try to tie my thoughts to the general topic of Tolkien.

No problem fella. I set it up as some of the posts were getting quite a lot of comments and it was getting difficult to keep track of the conversations.
I will probably set up a new thread for each new post I do in future and put a link to it at the end of the post. Hopefully that will get the forum used.
In the meantime if you or anyone else have any ideas for the place, let me know

Well, I made it to the forum. Nice setup. I saw the last comment from Olo talking about seeing background on the Wizards. He's in for a suprise when he learned where they came from.
Nice to see ya Gandalfs Beard. This shoudl be good.

Hmm, funny you post that, just deleted a spam post

, we're not that large of a community. Though... quantity beats quality, I suppose

Ady,
Don't know if this is the right place to complain or not, but I can't find a "complaints" thread.
Can't something be done about those 'spam-like" posts advertising movies that have nothing to do with The Hobbit Movie, or the Fantasy genre in general?
I'm new here and hope I'm not being out of line with this complaint.
Regards,
Odo

From my understanding spam posts can only be dealt with after they're made, and the spammers can be banned (sometimes their IP can also be banned from the site). I don't think its possible to see them coming though, and they're an issue on most sites.

Never Fear Odo and Eldorion, The Mod is Here
. That's the biggest job for us Moderators at the moment, keeping the Spammers off the board (everyone posting is very polite, so there is little else to do). You may see some spam appear, but I check the board fairly frequently, so you shouldn't see any spam for more than a 24 hr period.
Beren is busy with school-work and I'm not sure what happened to Show, So it's mostly me and Zackira (though Zack has been missing recently too) holding down the fort.

I have read now on many forums about the possible casting of David Tennant in the role of Bilbo, in the forthcoming film version of The Hobbit.
As a fellow Scotsman, and someone who has watched and appreciated his contribution to the continuing success of popular mainstream British television in recent years, I can understand the rise in speculation surrounding this casting whether it is based on fact or not.
However I sincerely hope this speculation is unfounded, as casting him in this role would be an unmitigated disaster. Although his particular style is well suited to many of his roles, his acting is not exactly what you would call ’under-stated’ and in my opinion this is exactly what is required for the role of Bilbo, ’ And I’m not just referring to Tennant’s Doctor Who, but the many other roles I’ve seen him in on screen, and once on stage, where the rolling eyes and facial tics, seems to inevitably creep in. The increasingly tired manic oddness and the attempted hammy irony that permeates every interpretation of his, would be solely at odds with the quiet determination, bravery and naivety of Bilbo.
Seeing Tennant being interviewed numerous times, he comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke, with a lot of likability, and I’m in no doubt he will continue to grow in popularity with television audiences by cultivating and adapting his now trademark style. However hopefully I am not alone in hoping and praying he is given a wide berth from this project by the casting directors, and an actor with the correct skill and subtlety is given the opportunity to bring us the Bilbo that so many million fans deserve.

Tennant has said[/url:16crmhyt] that he won't be playing Bilbo, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Also, welcome to the forum F H!

Hello there! I've been lurking for awhile, but I figured it was time for me to drop in and say hello!
I'm an avid Tolkien fan, and I'm totally stoked that they ARE doing "The Hobbit"
I was absolutely thrilled when they announced that they were using Ian, Hugo, and Andy for it! I think these movies have a lot of promise!

Hi Nat, it's cool to have more and more people joining (don't be fooled by my join date, I did little more than lurk myself for most of my time here). I see you've already started discussing things, which is great. I hope you stick around.

I don't know where to find WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE FORUM thread, but what's happened to the forum? Something weird has happened, but that's all I know. Is it just temporary?

You mean this thread, Odo? [url:2r87egd5]http://the-hobbit-movie.com/forum/what-s-up-with-the-forum-407.html[/url:2r87egd5]
Best guess is that it's a technical issue, probably with the template/background, and that Ady will have it resolved soon. In the mean time if you go to the User Control Panel > Board Preferences you can change the template to 'prosilver' and it will look alright.

I am thrilled to join a hobbit movie forum and kick around some rumours and watch the melee unfold until the moment of truth.... its about time. samgam

Hello, I'm new to this site. It is the best Hobbit forum website I have came across yet. I'm pretty surprised my username wasn't already taken,

Hi there, I come from france and I am living in Wellington at the moment, and I wonder if it's always possible to do the extra casting...
I hope i'll have a chance because I'm a big fan of the book !
Thanks for your answers !

Greetings and Welcome Bilbo Baggins and Gorgoroth
.
Tis indeed remarkable that Bilbo wasn't already taken as a username Mr Baggins.
And as you are already in NZ Gorgoroth, your Quest for a part as an Extra is half won.
If you wish, we have a New Members forum for introducing yourselves to other Members and off-topic chats (though we're pretty flexible here you will find
). Otherwise; just jump right into a thread. Happy Posting!
Wow Habbit Forum.. Great stuff... well what do we think most of when it comes with Hobbit "Lord of the Rings" right!? I heard the prequel is on it's finishing touches... Can't wait to watch that.... Hobbits are small kinda cute in some manner but they mostly play a great role on most movies.[/quote:1q14yfwa]
Not the spam army again...

There have been a lot lately.
We need GB back!

Thanks for creating this forum. I look foward to interacting with everyone here as the movie goes from pre-production to production to post-production and release.
I was an original member of the LORD OF THE RINGS discussion board dating back to 1999. Peter Jackson himself used to frequent that board and he would ask us what we expected to see... i.e. Elves with blond hair or with silver/gold hair? What about white hair?
He would also give us choices like "Who would be the [b:2swxfnnl]coolest[/b:2swxfnnl] character to rescue Frodo from the Black Riders at the Ford of Bruinen? a. Legolas b. Gandalf c. Arwen Undomiel d. Elrond e. Glorfindel f. Other (please name)
I hope Peter does this kind of fan interaction again for the Hobbit. By the way, 82% of the people thought it should be Glorfindel, just like in the book. Only 3% voted for Arwen, but it did turn out to be a cool scene when Arwen rescues Frodo.

Welcome to the forum, AnaiBendai! I wasn't aware PJ ever participated on Tolkien forums. Which one were you a member of? Not many are that old, but there are/were several.

Jeepers, I don't remember the name of the forum now! It was twelve years ago! I'm thinking it was called "WETAWORKS". I once printed out some of those old posts, so I will look for them and give you a definitive answer. Supposedly some of the members of that board were the actual actors, but they never identified themselves as such.

Ooh, okay! I've never heard of that; I thought maybe you meant TheOneRing.net or Tolkien Online or one of the others that are still around. Thanks.

[b:dinee2z6][i:dinee2z6]Some[/i:dinee2z6][/size:dinee2z6][/b:dinee2z6] people are of the opinion that PJ interacts on this forum.
