Bottom of Page    Message Board > The Lord of the Rings > GOLDEN MOMENTS   [1] [2] >>

I was wondering if we might play a game with 3 Rules.

Very briefly post Five (5) Golden Moments from the Movies.

(1) "I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip!"

But only enough info so we know which scene it is and can share the the joy once more.

No one is allowed to reuse the same Golden Moment. (Let's not keep going over the same things!)

If anyone thinks a given 'Golden Moment' is only SILVER or BRONZE, or not in the least metallic. Isolate the item, and briefly explain why its not. This being the only actual DISCUSSION point on the thread. This is so we can keep the thread a bit tidy. (And try not to digress!)

So it's:
(1) blah blah (FOTR)
(2) blah blah blahdy blah (TTT)
(3) blah blah (TRK)
(4) blah blah (FOTR)
(5) blah blah (RTK)...

Don't explain why you think it's a Golden Moment! Wait and see if anyone disagrees first.

If anyone is interested in this idea: Please GO FIRST.

NB Obviously if everyone feels this is just doing the Quotable Quotes thread again, I'll understand.
This is taken from the [b:prty1h0g][u:prty1h0g]film[/u:prty1h0g][/b:prty1h0g] btw!

Frodo: You're Late!
Gandalf: (Pauses) A wizard is never late, He arrives presicely when he means to.
Frodo (After long pause and some laughing) I'ts wondeful to see you again, Gandalf!
Bilbo: I don't know half as many of you half as well as I should like and I like less than half of you half as much as you deserve!
(After the episode with the fireworks and the dragon firework)

Gandalf: Meriadoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took, I might have known...

BTW Bilbo says just before: Dragon...? There hasn't been a Dragon for 50 years....

Thanks for your posts. Unfortunately you only gave Three GOLDEN MOMENTS.

Anyway, I'm thinking maybe this thread is a bit too similar to the QUOTES one. Maybe we should let this one fade into obscurity in that case.

NB Has anybody found out your dark secret yet? (I've not blabbed!)
Yeah sorry couldn't think of any other good ones on the top of my head sorry odo, <img src='/images/smileys/sad.gif' border='0' alt='Sad Smilie' /> .
Thanks for the thought BD,

I feel we need a juicy new topic, don't we? Can you (or anyone) think of one?

’owyn : My uncle told me a strange thing. He said that you rode to war with Thengel, my grandfather. But he must be mistaken.
Aragorn: The King has a good memory. He was only a small child at the time.
’owyn : Then you must be at least 60.
’owyn : 70 ?
’owyn : But you cannot be 80 !
Aragorn : 87.

My goodness, Ancalagon, you've been out and about! Where did you find this thread? I thought I'd tossed it in the bin?! :o
well, might as well post something now this thread is revived, right? <img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' />
Legolas: Final count; 42
Gimli: blah blah blah... I'm sitting pretty on 43
Legolas: (shoots it) 43!
Gimli: He was already dead
Legolas: He was twitching
Gimili: He was twitching, because I've got my axe embeded in his NERVOUS SYSTEM!!!!!!

Would they know what a nervous system was in middle earth???? HA!
I thought this was a golden moment as well

(In regards to the dying White Tree)

Pippin: "Why are they still guarding it?"
Gandalf: "They guard it because they have hope."

Plus the fountain guards had my favorite costumes of the entire trilogy. Love the wing helmets!
Gimili: He was twitching, because I've got my axe embeded in his NERVOUS SYSTEM!!!!!![/quote:1s6q8fam]

Does Gimli really say that? 'NERVOUS SYSTEM'??? Mmm.... I thought this was Golden Moments - not Moldy Moments!
Ah yes, the nervous system line. That and, to a lesser degree, telling archers to "fire" makes me roll my eyes every time.
Plus the fountain guards had my favorite costumes of the entire trilogy. Love the wing helmets![/quote:1s3htky2]

I totally agree. I was rather disappointed with the Gondorian helmets for the most part, but those were quite cool. I'm even willing to forgive the plate armour, it's just that badass. :P
Arwen: "...then it is a very good dream...." [Sigh!] Now that was lovely.... (I'm an old romantic at heart - and I'm actually being serious here, believe it not!)
See, until a month ago, i actually thought it was a dream... now i realize it was a flashback...
I didn't realize that until I saw the director's commentary. The film was pretty unclear about that, I thought.
In no particular order,

1 : Aragorns fight with 'Lurtz'. (my favourite sword fight!)
2 : Boromirs dying words.
3 : Arwen revealed after the crowning.
4 : Bilbo hiding from the SB's.
5 : Gandalfs arrival at the battle of Helm's deep.

Hail !!
hail manwe, you're back! Now that [i:1y7t0zd4]is [/i:1y7t0zd4]good news! <img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' /> Surely a Golden Moment in itself!
Thankyou so much Odo !
I have been reading all the posts but there's been something wrong when i've tried to input
things and I stopped trying for a while. However, my clever daughter has fixed it, somehow :?

I must say I have been greatly entertained and illuminated by the discussions of recent weeks !
Your good, and wise, self! GB, Eldorion & Pettytyrant especially have enriched me (and perhaps
others imho)

Thankyou sooo much also for the poetry !

What say you to my golden moments ?
Other than the Lurtz business, I agree. (I love [i:1qvon70t]most [/i:1qvon70t]of the Arwen stuff especially, even though it's not Canon!) <img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' />
I just loved the swashbuckling Aragorn in the extended scene ! He, ahem, kicked ass !!

If I'd to choose from the books I'd still have Aragorn and Arwen's first meeting, as a gold moment.
The first meeting is one I don't like. The sword maiden thing didn't work for me. Nor Arwen's histrionics when Frodo is lying in her arms - she had only just met him (and their horseride together was not what I'd call intimate!) After that, I can't think of a bad scene with her in it (except a few oddities in her scenes with Elrond).
That doesn't leave too many and I don't disagree. Book Arwen and Liv were quite different, in
my mind (and it's eye) at least!
Not that Liv isn't lovely of course.

I'm sure I read they were considering puting her into battle at Helms deep! Goodness! she might turn
up in the Hobbit !!!!!!!
Well, she is Immortal. Reminds me of a former girlfriend.... She was quite a few years older than me. Hey! She might have been an elf! Though she didn't look like Liv... nor anywhere near as young as she (in Arwen guise) looked.... Anyhow, she could very well be in The Hobbit Movies - that's, of course, if they go via Lothlorien, as I think she lived there in the time of Bilbo's adventure...
You'll give 'them' ideas with talk like that !
Nor Arwen's histrionics when Frodo is lying in her arms[/quote:rcv4bkm1]

I don't like that part. I can live with warrior!Arwen (though sack-of-potatoes!Frodo irks me), but her sudden change from tough warrior maiden mode to weeping was rather confusing and seemingly (to me) contradictory.
You'll give 'them' ideas with talk like that ![/quote:la8ib84o]

Not, not ... THEM[/url:la8ib84o]?! :o :o

Also, welcome back, hail!! Good to see you around again. 8-)
Eldorion, I hadn't even been thinking of the contrast you mention. Maybe I could live with the shield maiden thing after what you've said... nah, I couldn't! Not even Glorfindel acted so martially!
I'm starting to become lost in several threads because one minute, everyone's on topic and we're having a delightful discussion, and then the next I see that there's a page full of little side conversations!!!!! I must say gentlemen, you're becoming quite unorganized, and I will stick up my nose until this stops. I don't mind the occasional relevant off-track discussions, but one thread turns into another in the blink of an eye!!!!!
Sincerely the lone lady
Tinuviel :ugeek:
Most of our discussions seem to lose their way after a few pages, though some find it again. It's not much of an issue for me, but I can see how it'd be confusing.
Yes, Eldo, you and a few others do make things confusing.

Sorry, Tin, I try my best to keep things on the straight and narrows. They seem to say the first thing that comes into their minds! Also, they don't seem to take anything seriously! :x

Anyhow, five GOLDEN MOMENTS (for me).

(1) "Stupid fat hobbit!"

(2) Roughly remembered: "Please don't turn me into something [i:i2jr1jd8]unnatural[/i:i2jr1jd8]!"

(3) "I might not be able carry the ring, but I can carry you!" (Again, roughly remembered).

(4) "If it is a dream, then it is a good dream." (Yes, rough yet again. ahhh...Liv.... )).

(5) "Would you like me to get you a box?" (Not canon, but funny nonetheless).

There you go, Tin. As always, I'm with you all the way. (Those [i:i2jr1jd8]others [/i:i2jr1jd8]are so childishly tiresome, don't you think? )
I didn't like the 'box' bit but the others are good.
Odo You do know I meant I liked Aragorn and Arwens meeting in the book, not the film ?
It's Beren/Luthien - Thingol/Melian(ish) and I love all those !
Makes me think if I wander around in woods long enough i'll eventually come across
a beautiful maiden and claim her !!
Overall I wasn't too fussy about Liv, I'd have preffered Jennifer
Connely. She looks more naturally beautiful imho. <img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' />

Thanks Eldorion, I'd forgotten about that movie. Thanks also for the welcome.
If you ever find your beautiful elf maiden sauntering in the woods, I'd suggest you keep her there - I'm not sure your Missus would approve!
Indeed. She is of course herself, one of those. <img src='/images/smileys/wink.gif' border='0' alt='Wink Smilie' />
So long as she is not [i:28h9ul5o]one[/i:28h9ul5o] of [i:28h9ul5o]two[/i:28h9ul5o], you'll continue to live!

<img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' />
What about their legs, they dont need those. (orcs talking about eating merry and pippin)

sam gamgee have you been eves dropping. No. i aint been dropping no eves sir.

That still only counts as one. (legolas killing the oliphant)

Friends, you bow to no one (aragorn to the hobbits)

Its a pity Bilbo didnt kill the vile creature. "pity" its pity that stayed Bilbo's hand.

Theres 5, but i can think of a few more
Well, done, lad, and I agree with them all!
My golden moments

1. Definately the second breakfast part in FOTR!
2. The wizard battle between Gandalf and Saruman
3. "You shall not pass!"
4. Boromir's last moments fighting the orcs with arrows sticking out of him
5."I guess that concludes negotiations" said by Gimli after Aragorn cuts of the Mouth of Sauron's head ( in the extended edition)
BTW is my animated badger avatar bothering anyone?
BTW is my animated badger avatar bothering anyone?[/quote:3ouw7lc6]

All I see is the text "User avatar" with a link to your profile; no badgers, animated or otherwise. I suspect the animation has confused the board software, though I'm just guessing. :geek:
I thought is was a [i:1kgplx59]post [/i:1kgplx59]modern badger - which might look like anything... at least, that's what I was thinking.... (We called that sort of thing [i:1kgplx59]surrealism[/i:1kgplx59] when was a boy! :? )
Hasn't anyone seem the stupid "badger badger badger mushroom" animation? Anyway I will find a new avatar <img src='/images/smileys/smile.gif' border='0' alt='Smile Smilie' />
Weebl's Stuff is sometimes hilarious, and Badger Badger Badger is one of those times. <img src='/images/smileys/bigsmile.gif' border='0' alt='Big Smile Smilie' />
Oh the badger badger badger... Shame Tolkien didn't come up with a badger idea. The LotRings could do with a badger. The fox (the only [i:1qj7v2va]talking[/i:1qj7v2va] one in LotR I might add) in FotR was excellent! Why not a badger too? Now that would be a potential Golden Moment! 8-) You can't go wrong with a badger in your story, surely...?
Of all the cuts from the film, the Fox must surely be the worst.
I'm honestly not sure why Tolkien included it; the Fox seems a bit out-of-place, put he does provide a dash of Hobittish fantasy. :geek:
Too reminiscent of "The Hobbit" (book) tone, I'd hazard! I still weep on my pillow about the omission...! <img src='/images/smileys/sad.gif' border='0' alt='Sad Smilie' />
Errm...talking Fox in FotR :? ? Did I miss something? Or is my memory just fried?
