I'd recently discovered that Howard Shore was composing the score for the third Twilight movie Eclipse. I flipped out! :oops: :lol: I was furious and ecstatic at the same time. Angered because Howard Shore was dipping his amazing talents into the filth of vampires and droopy girls who lust for them. Ecstatic because I love his music. So I'd like to dedicate a thread to him and his music.
Personally, I loved how everytime I listen to anything from LOTR, i get the chills all over and I'm swept off my feet into the world of Middle Earth. I'm curious to see what he does in Eclipse :twisted:
But what else has he done???? I'd like to know.

Howard Shore's a great composer! Although I can't match Gandalfs Beard's response, packed full of information, I just want to say that I love his work too. Sadly I have to admit the LotR stuff was only stuff I knew him to be involved with, your list is pretty long GB, and many of the films I've seen and thought brilliant but I never really thought about who composed the music in them, next time I'll be sure to listen. I bought some Cds of the music in LotR films when they first came out, brilliant music, it's a great he's composing music in the Hobbit.

Didnt realize he had done so many movies, but then again apart from lotr have only
seen 2 of the movies mentioned. Only watch sci fi (or fantasy) films. mostley, nearly always.

I'd just like to mention Howard Shore's music in Eclipse, which I saw last night.
a) some of it resembled LOTR (especially shelob's lair!)
b) it made so many normally awkward moments meaningful!
c) it saved the movie!

I thought he did an excellent job with LotR, and some interesting films on that list GB -quite a few horror orientated stuff there too (wouldn't be surprised if that is what made PJ think of him). My only small gripe would be that I was a little disappointed that the LotR music as a whole is very much of a piece- maybe he should have been a bit braver in giving a more distinct sound to each of the races- but a minor quibble really.

I saw it with some friends, and also because I wanted to see how the score fit in with the movie. I give alot of credit to the director David Slade, because he saved that series. Movie was better than the book, but its not saying much :roll:
As to Last Airbender...
FAVORITE TV SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except i heard the movie is absolutely etrocious. the local movie critic gave it half a star...

Without the splendid music of Howard shore, most movies that he has contributed to would not be as fantastic as they are. He plays a significant role in many movies composing with his heart. He should be recognised with more than just awards, he is one of my most profound mentors and although im not terribly good at using instruments and singing i still like the fellow for his unique talents and sophistication.

I totally agree. But even Howard couldn't save the sorry excuse for a movie commonly known as Eclipse. The music seemed okay, but I didn't last through to the end.

All three of the LOTR soundtracks would be in my top 10 soundtracks of all time- they are that good.

If anyone lives in the Chigago land area and have heard of Ravinia festival, then I'm pleased to announce that the chicago symphony will be playing the score to FOTR with the movie playing in the background. I"M PUMPED AND 100% going! Just letting everyone else know. It's August 18th and 19th 2011.

I have heard criticisms of Mr. Shore's body of music for the LOTR by master musicians, but the criticism is for the flavour of the music and not the splendid richness and complexity. For, even I have to admit, it sounds very Celtic much of it, totally Irish to the core and the whole book was written by our professor, first to be a canvass for his languages, and secondly because he felt there was essentially nothing much that was truly absolutely English in flavour and feeling  and that is what he wanted to depict. I love it deeply regardless and could listen to is all for hours and hours at a time, if only I had such time.

Yes Lee Lee.  I still tear up at times listening to my favorite playlist from all three films.  HS's ability to move people through music is incredible.  I especially love his Elven inspired lyrical tracks.  Enya I can do without....
