Thread: Tolkien Biography
Planet Tolkien is archived and no longer updated, but the forums remain browseable. We have established a Telegram group for old and new visitors to stay connected and discuss all things Tolkien.I have to do an author research paper for school, and I chose Tolkien for my topic. I need at least one good biography of Tolkien as a source for my paper. If any one has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks a lot.
Humphrey Carpenter's Tolkien: A Biography[/url:2lihbpaj] has been the gold standard for biographies for decades (it's also the official one, and Carpenter had met Tolkien on several occasions).
Hope this helps, and good luck on your paper!

Also, the J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide[/url:zkir7sca] by Scull & Hammond is far more comprehensive, but it's also very long and expensive, and probably a bit more than you're looking for.
