Good question, Grondmaster. And if you're going to cut it anyway, can I just ask- am I the only one who finds it tough to read that netspeak stuff? It's like a rebus (I never liked those as a kid), and I end up talking to myself at the computer, sounding it out. Feel free to use it, but it sure makes me feel... old.
Jehanne: I'm with you regarding the computerese shorthand; however, I'm just thankful that the internet is in my native tongue, as I don't have a second language. And knowing that English isn't the first language of many of our members, I am happy for the privilege to interact with them.
If they or anyone else need to use shortcuts to get their point across, its okay with me. And when I encounter an unknown abbreviation that I can't interpret from the context, I ask for an explanation. That is how I learned the meanings of: 'lol', 'rofl', 's/t', and 's/b'. Also I think many of the shorthand terms came from chat sessions in order to reduce dead-air time.
I'm so slow typing and single minded that I can't post to the forum while carrying on a conversation in the chat room. Many of our younger members can multi-task, and if using these shortcuts helps them do it, who am I to stand in their way.
And oldness is mostly a state of mind; however, "The older I get, the better I was."

I thought the movie was quite frankly the best piece of cinemetography I have ever seen (with maybe the exception of Ben Hur). It has raised the bar for the film world.
But I am one of the few here who didn't care for the books but liked the story.
And I don't like the new net speak.. I only use it when I have only one hand to type (due to a baby being in the other arm). But perhaps I don't like it because I am an English Major and a writer...

If you had just got here Grondy, would you really be bothered to read the 7 or so pages of "Who has seen it and What do you think?" in which we mostly run over the same old questions over and over again cos we can't remember if we went over them before or not. And in which, I myself change my opinion at least 3 or 4 times ion just about everything? I mean, would you? I know I wouldn't
Okay, point taken, I'll leave it here and edit my previous rather parochial remarks. :o
I'll also edit out Jehanne's comment about short hand, and my reply after they have been up for a couple days, or maybe that should all go in a tavern or under info as another topic. What does anyone else think?

can't stand net-speak...drives me up the wall. Not that I always use perfect capitalization and all that when I type, but I think it's a whole lot faster to just type like I normally do than to learn all these different abbreviations...
*withstupid*
I'm used to using some abbreviations though, like sth and sb and so and lol and rofl and things like that. But I don't consider them as "netspeak". cu and ic and oledi, that's netspeak. Here on the forum, all right, it's maybe easier, but not in long mails or stuff like that.
Does this really belong in a tavern? A serious conversation like this one? Naaah.
Why does everyone keep posting long posts?? It takes you an awful lot of time to read them!!!

I don't suppose you would believe they might actually have something say? :PWhy does everyone keep posting long posts?? It takes you an awful lot of time to read them!!!
All I ask is that they do it in shorter paragraphs so when my trifocals lose their place, it doesn't take me so long to get back to it.
I agree there. It's easier to read paragraphs than to read a full text. You can skim through paragraphs more easily.

oops, sorry. I'm definitely one of the worst offenders here. I just keep forgetting and getting carried away. I'll try to remember though.
Long posts are fine, just break them up into shorter paragraphs with an blank line between them. Makes it easier to quote from also.

I have nothing else to add...

Well you and me both...
Plastic says: If you have nothing to say, then don't say anything and save us all a lot of time please.
