Mu cousin told me this horrible rumour that Ian Mckellen was dead! I just know this can't be true! Is it?

No, I don't think Gandalf is dead. Your friend probably was thinking about Richard Harris, who played Professor Albus Dumbledore in the two Harry Potter movies. He died at age 72 on 25 October 2002 and now must be replaced for the third film
No. He's Not Dead. As Grondy Said, It's most likely Richard Harris you are talking about. He played umbledore in Harry Potter, And HP And LotR Are A Little Along The Same Timeline Movie-Wize.

Don't worry, It's just a rumor. Either that, Or your cousin is playing a prank on you! Ha!

If that was a prank, it's not at all funny! Paranoid Smilie
Actually the Ian McKellan/Richard Harris mix-up dates back to filming days of HP and LOTR. I heard that Richard Harris was playing Gandalf and vice versa. So it does not surprise me that people would confuse their obituaries as well.
I am sure Sir Ian would be equally surprised to hear of his demise. Elf Confused Smilie
Happily for Sir Ian, a false rumour about someone's demise is supposed to bring good luck and very long life!
Very interesting Eryan, I have never heard that before. I hope it is true and he has a very long and happy life.
Yep, famously so. Good for him, a real Icon.
I had also heard that Gandalf was killed in the making of the movie(s) but wasn't able to confirm that and found a confirmation otherwise at a reliable source elswhere
While we're tossing around rumors...someone told me that Christopher Lee had died...
I could find no confirmation that Christopher Lee has died... I'm sure it's just one of those pesky net rumors. Actually, everything I've read indicates he's in remarkable physical condition for an 80 year old man!
