Thread: Faramir and a laughable arguement

Whooee! Talk about a Sigmundian Slip. Yes the word "not" is extraneous in my previous post and reverses my intended postBody. :elfembar:
But wouldn't it have been kinder to set him straight; suggesting he first finish reading the books instead of laughing at his ignorance? Laughing at the ignorance of others and acting holier than thou, often makes us look just as ridiculous. Teaching to correct is a much better policy. Happy Elf Smilie
Yeh But I'm an obnoxious lanky git and most likely so are all the other people who were there (well apart from lanky). It serve's him right that he will feel like a fool for trying to argue when he was quite obviously wrong.
uh huh *nods vacantly*
Of course it's not nice to laugh at clueless people, but that's only if they are clueless and admit that they are. Then we can help explain the whole Faramir saga like a true LOTR fan should. But if the person who are clueless act all knowing and superior, then maybe it's ok to laugh at their ignorance. At least do it to their face, it's better than acting all nice in front of them and laughing behind their backs. Okay, this is too much already, I'll shut up now. Ignore Smilie
ok just because FAramir would completely lose in a fight against boromir is no reason for him to take the ring and he does not even know about it when he gets FRodo so why would he blindfold him just to take the ring. In this case this is just a mere ranger so he would just do his job and go on doing the same procedure with every un orc prisoner Frodo was no exception

Oh we laughed in his face, I never laugh at people behind there backs I will hold my tounge until breaking point then tell them the proplem. This guy was just a complete NIMSLO and thought he was being intelligent.
Okay then- Ha Ha Ha Smilie @ Ross
Ok Prog I'm going to paraphrase your quotation

You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because your all the same
Moderator Smilie Let's not start pushing the cart down the road where we start getting personal, folks. We are all friends here. Let's try to keep it that way. Moderator Smilie
Sorry, Val is right were all true fans of Tolkien not just ridding the wave of popularity, were all geeky enough to spend hours at a time writting nonsense even if some of us havent't read the book. Through this forum we can persuade those people to read the books and see how imense and more enjoyable they are compared to any film or radio immitation.
My apologies, Ross.

The comment was intended as a joke. Believe it or not, I can see where you're coming from with your rampant PJ bashing... I recall many pangs of disappointment at various points while watching both movies. But what can I say, I'm a glass-half-full kinda guy. Big Smile Smilie

I would, however, like to point out (once again) that i HAVE read the books... and I did so BEFORE the movie came out. Wink Smilie
I know that prog and my appologies also, i did guess it was a joke on your part mine was through me being a sarcastic git. I also knew you had read the books. I think this should now be settled else it turn too kanly.
Cheers the pair of you. I guessed both of you were only jesting, but forum boards often get out of hand because without the benefits of facial expressions and body language, something said in jest can often be mistaken for something malicious.

I wasn't coming down heavy on either of you, I was just attempting to guide you clear of any paths that might have ended in tears. Smile Smilie
We know! Big Smile Smilie
I think Ross is right, i mean people who know nothing about LOTR that for many is becoming even more than a hobby (maybe an absession as my best friend says or a style of life as i call it to defend myself). I think that teaching people who don't know is nice but being nice to people who only pretend to know everythig is just letting them live in their fake realty one more day.
Thank You. It's really been my day on here today people keep agreeing with me, well theres a first time for everything!
No there isn't, i disagree...
shut it squirrel or I'll have you in a pie Tongue Smilie
Okay, so there is a first time for everything, including threatening the Skwerl.
I'm slicing some onions and carrots as we speak and I've already got the pastry ready!
(At this moment Ross leaves the kitchen to leave a trail of acorns back to the hutch of his pet guard rabbit Sprout the Bad Tempered and Slightly Wiffy!)
I was thinking that you don't really have to be mean to someone or laugh at them to let them know that they're wrong about something...
...just a thought
Juggling Smilie
Exactly! Big Smile Smilie

Yep there will only be the verbs left!
Okay, I hear ya, pots and kettles I know. but we have to stick to policy now, and we didn't then, and I was hoping nobody would bring it up! *laughs*
The only reason they haven't been edited is that it would take the whole of the Council a week to replace all of the profanities Big Smile Smilie
Back when Taz finally learned that they weren't quite family oriented, I thought he was going to edited them to bring them in line with our policy. He must have decided that pages made up of mostly asterisks surrounding the occasional word would be rather meaningless, so he just added the warnings to the story titles.
In my defence, can I just add here that it is only the Gandalf story that still contains profanities, and that it was actually me who added the warnings, and I will get round to editing the Gandalf story soon (as the unedited versions are still sat at my happy website).
Dont edit them!
Okay SKWRL, so I was wrong and you are working on it. Were I really worried about it, I would have done something about them myself, but editing other peoples stories is like unto censorship, of which I am opposed. (Except when it I'm the one doing it to make the world safer from badness, and this would be quite an arrogant attitude were it for real. Elf With a Big Grin Smilie )

That might be going a bit far to be honest, working on it that is...
Taz thinks so, and as he wants his Website to be family friendly, we try not to remove all swear words and crudity from the site.

The word "not" in the preceeding sentence was inadvertently added, please ignore it as it reversed my intended postBody.

Hi Y'all. Long time no post. I been hit hard by a couple of life's low blows and am still getting back on my feet. I try to check in when I can.

Now, Back to the original point that was mentioned, dealing with Faramir, TTT and PJ. As I have said before, I usually find his adaption paletteble and enjoyable. However, I was extremely, severely disappointed with the portrayle of Faramir in TTT. You see Faramir is MY favorite character. He represents the best that just regualr humans have to offer and it's pretty darn excellent. The first time I saw the TTT film adaption I was in shock. It actually had to expend great strength of will to not stand and hurl obsceneties at the screen and at PJ from afar.

I was so disillusioned that I have come to the conclusion that I am not willing to bet anything on what will be in the final film. Honestly, now I wouldn't be surprised if, in the ROTK adaption, the death of the Lord of the Nazgul transpired in a WWF tag team wrestling match pitting him and a Balrog vs. Aragorn and Arwen with Merry and Eowyn cheering from a balcony.

I will say, quite meaningfully, that anyone that can confuse the portrayal of Faramir in the film with his essense in the book has less brains than a kumquat.

Now that being said, I too have run into Friut/brain transplant victims that proclain they fandom of LOTR based only off of the films and are only starting or have yet to start reading the books. If they are merely mistaken and open to enlightenment, I endeavor to gently help them along to a more knowlegable path.

However, If they prove themselves truly arrogant and obnoxious without justification, I have found it enjoyable entertainment to reduce them into masses of quivering jelly by ridiculing them with my vast knowlege and intellect of things Tolkien and my eloquently devastating patterns of speech. I am not the most knowlegable, but I do feel pretty darn well versed and among the Wise. Thus, I smite them heartily.

Ross, I applaud your act of kumquat eviceration.

I think Grondy was a little tired when he wrote this post, he does spend an awful lot of his spare time here working to make our lives a little easier, however, what he meant was that we try TO remove all swear words and crudity, and not try not to, as he previously stated.
*plastic thinks that this was a terribly amusing typo however...*
Yeh, Glorfinel my old eye spy buddy!
