Basically:
1.Find a picture, 70x70 pixels and no larger than 8kB.
2.Make it into a .gif file. (Unless it's already a gif)
If you have a picture you want to use, but do not know how to do the above, just mail it to Amari’ or Rednell, and they will help.
3.Go to "My Account", "Edit your profile". Find the button that says "browse"(probably) and find the picture you want on your computer. Click "upload" and you are done!

I have made a avatar to the specifications but it still wont work. I copied one of your avatar (hope you dont mind) to see if it would work and it did so am even moor baffeld now. One moor thing is the chat room down.

Hi Tulkas. Welcome to Planet Tolkien.
If you were able to copy one of ours and make it work, but one of the ones you made yourself didn't, it sounds like something is wrong with the one you made. Are you sure it is a 70x70 gif.file? Is it saved somewhere the browser can access it from?
The chatroom was fine yesterday, but I haven't tried today. What browser are you using? I cannot access the chatroom using Mozilla, but I can with IE. You need to have Java enabled. If you are using a school or work PC they might have Java unactivated.
I think you are rite it is the java how do i activate it.

The Mithril is for sending private messages. It takes a certain amount of mithril to send a PM to a member .

(As my windows is speaking norwegian, not too badly either, I must say, the actual labels might differ a bit.)

I don't imagine Elfstone will mind you borrowing his avatar for a short while, to test your system, but I'd imagine he will want it back before too long. Personal avatars tend to portray our feelings. When I noticed someone had borrowed mine a short time ago, it felt rather strange seeing it on posts that I hadn't written.

i tried this and it still didnt work when i use to click on CHAT a box would appear and say do u exept this but now it doesnt appear

If you still have problems creating your avatar, try speaking very nicely to Amarie. She's very kindly helped out a number of people create theirs. It could be a PC problem. Mine is currently refusing to open any Jpegs.
The computer of a friend of mine also doesn't like jpegs! Try opening them with Internet Explorer. (right click, open with..)

Hi Adweena. Welcome to Planet Tolkien.
There are no default pictures for avatars. You must create your own. Basically scan a picture you like, or find one off the net. You must then convert it to a 70x70 Gif. file (if you have problems doing this part, Rednell or Amarie may help you if you ask them nicely. You then follow the instructions on how to upload the image.
