Sorry Nessa....never heard of it! Sad Smilie
What is this movie about?
Ned (Edward) Kelly was a legendary Australian bush ranger (outlaw) of the 1870s. Some people believe he was a hero of the working class, others say he was a thief and a murderer. It depends on whose version of events you wish to believe.

A new version of the Kelly story has recently been filmed in Australia, starring hunky Heath Ledger as Ned, and also starring - wait for it girls - Orlando Bloom as one of the other members of the (in)famous Kelly gang.

Looking forward to seeing it myself. Big Smile Smilie
That always get's my goat that for these movies they have to use actors because they're famous and physcally atractive to women. If he's a bush ranger come outlaw, he's probably scared and rough round the edges, he's probaly also Austrailian as were his gang, so why use a Kiwi and a Brit!

Thats me steping of my soap box now!
This movie likes cool... But I'm afraid that this movie isn't coming to Brazil until 2005...

I believe in the original film, Ned Kelly was actually played by Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones.

You are quite correct, Val. Jagger was awful as Ned IMO. Kelly really was quite a handsome fellow (probably part of the reason for his fame) so Jagger really wasn't right for the part, and as far as I know, Kelly didn't do any rock and roll music.

Ned Kelly and his family were Irish imigrants, which is supposedly why they were social outcasts (typical of Colonial Australia) and why the 'British' police 'persecuted' them. But I do hope that Heath Ledger can do a reasonable Irish/Australian accent.

Just to clarify: in Australia 'Bush Ranger' = Outlaw.

A bit of Kelly trivia: His last words, as he went to the gallows, were "Such is life".

Heh, going off-topic a bit here, but Australians always have a particular look reserved for us Brits, especially the english, and I know why. It's a "you stupid B****r " look, cos they know that being sent to live in an unspoiled country of sun, sea and beautiful, breathtaking landscapes is not really much of a punishment for the criminal type. Of course, the well-behaved law-abiding people got to stay here in blighty, where it's cold, wet, and generally horrible. Who got the best deal? History still does not record the terminal stupidity of the English in this terrible legal system.
Transportation wasn't all pretty landscapes and sunbaking.

Many convicts (roughly half) died on the nine month journey in the appalling conditions on the prison ships (called 'hulks') and when they got here, they were subjected to terrible abuse and mistreatment (even after they were released). The 'crimes' that these convicts comitted were often quite minor by today's standards (petty theft, for example)

Still, in a sense, I guess the decendants of those convicts ended up with a better deal - in my opinion at least, but I could be a little biased (as most people are about their own country). Big Laugh Smilie

You Have just shattered all my days of wagging school just so I could watch the Bush Tucker Man. There was me thinking he was a Captain in the Australlian amry only to find out he's a crim. Oh well, I'll have to go and be a crim now!

I knew all that about the deportation but the one's who did survive got the better end of the deal. There was this Guvenor Generaal who I think was called Munroe, who implemented a plan of giving land to who ever served their term.

By the way my uncle is emagrating to Aus. There sending him 250 years to late. Tongue Smilie
Sorry
