My younger cousin, who has, unbelievably, never heard of Tolkien said this to me one day while I was reading the FotR:
"Carrie, why are you reading a book called To-clean?"
I just looked at him and laughed.

My always and ever favorite remains Tim Benzadrin(o.) The mods may kill this, dunno, but it's late and hopefully a few folks can get some chuckles in the mean time. It can't be that bad; the gub-mint ain't banned it (yet.)

I still like Beleriland the most. I'll always call it that from now on, which reminds me, my friend pronunced it "Berry-land". 
And then there's: "Ar-gon". My dad calls Inu-Yasha: "Inyu-squatcha". And my friend's dad calls it "Inu-washa-squasha".
But you do have to admit, Beleriland is so much fun to say!

ive asked this question to many of my friends plenty of times;
"Do you like Tolkien??"
they reply "yes i do like talking"

You wouldn't confuse your friend so much if you'd pronounce it toll-keen instead of tall-ken, but I still find myself occasionally reverting back to toll-ken, which was the way I pronounced it until I came here and got some larn-nen.
