Thread: when does the special edition

Bottom of Page    Message Board > General Discussion > when does the special edition
when does the special edition of rotk come out in the U.S.?
The theatrical version of ROTK will be released on VHS and DVD in the USA on May 25th and the special extended version is expected to be on sale in November, just in time for holiday giving. Smile Smilie
Thanks, I thought since the theatrical was coming out sooner that they would bump up the special edition as well.
We should be so lucky. Paranoid Smilie
Tell you what, why don't you just read ROTK again instead of watching the special edition? Much better for your brain and understanding of TLOTR!
Or evern better, read all three books and THEN watch the movies. That way everything comes out palantir clear and you have a perfect view of the story!

I didn't know ROTK was coming out sooner than the other two. Glad I know now!
Welcome to PT Gothmog, glad to have you with us! Waving Hello Smilie

Just so you know, there is also a lot more on the SEE of RotK in the RotK movie forum. Just look for the thread entitled THE ROTK SEE DVD THREAD.

Also I’ll probably be moving this thread over to that one in the next couple of days as I feel that’s where it best belongs. As soon as I figure out how to move it, I will, unless another CM beats me to it first!

WHat I want to know is if there is going tobe a extended trilogy set!

Or even even EVEN better, read all three books, and watch a specially edited version you made yourself of the movies, which cuts out all the added in bits, and puts in the bits they missed out (your cat is Frodo, and you are Sam, and everyone else is cardboard cut-outs) that you acted yourself, with your only friend (your cat)!

Great idea, huh!?

Yes Randalllin, much to my own personal dismay (because I’ve already purchased the first two deluxe SEE’s with the exclusive WETA statues) I believe that NL is going to put out an extended trilogy box set sometime in early 2005.

It just makes me mad because PJ had said all along they wouldn’t do that because it wouldn’t be fair to all of the fans that have already purchased the SEE’s separately. Sadly, once again however, doing the ’right thing’ has been trumped by the lure of the almighty dollar.

You guys are amazing! How (and why) didn’t you think ahead and be patient on the matter. You really believed that, after all three movies were out, there was not going to be a Box, or Coffin, or something cool containing the Trilogy? What fools! Patience is a virtue that pays. Urges and mood changes came over me when someone mentioned owning a piece of the glory, but my will is stronger and this traveler, my friends, shall have his reward.
Ha Ha Ha Smilie You guys are amazing!

Yes, Azadhel, I actually did believe that all three would come out as a special set. When it comes to making money, no one can resist the marketing machine, so PJ has probably had a change of heart. However, I am sure the first set will only be the threatrical editions and then it will be about 5 years before the set of extended versions come out. Just about the time that my copies will have worn out. Smile Smilie
If being a fool means snuggling on my couch and watching LOTR whenever the urge hits me, then I am one happy fool. Very Big Grin Smilie
Hahahahaha! You fools! Owning a piece of the glory! This is where being 12 comes in handy. I don't have to pay for the pieces of the glory! My Dad pays for it! Lol! Lol!

Easy there Azadhel, I find your latest post in this thread to be bordering on being offensive, and I can assure you that I personally am far from being a fool!

If you made a personal decision to wait and purchase the films only till they were available in some kind of box set, then good for you, that’s your choice and your right, but do not criticize others unjustly for exercising their same rights and choices in another manner.

Personally I figured that there would be some sort of box set later on once all of the movies were out. However, as I stated, I was hoping that PJ would stick to his word, and I think that if the choice was PJ’s alone, he would stick to what he has been saying for the past three years, but the choice is not his ultimately, it’s New Line’s, and they want more and more money, that’s all they care about, and that’s the bottom line.

Well said Nell! Elf Winking Smilie
VERY well said! Even now I get the mood changes. Do you feel them..?
On a lighter note, it has come to my attention that several posts have been remarked as offensive even, knowing the purpose of this forums, when the will of the thread is not jeopardized. That was the first time that such a remark was casted on me. My first initial intension is to apologize, for my behaivior, my tone of words (you know what I mean), and any thought Only if it was, to your criteria, indeed offensive. Secondly I would like to emphacize on my intentions and clear things definetly around here: Everything that you have read, everything that you are reading, and anything that may read, coming from me, is most sincerely written with the absolute (ultimate rather) best intention. I can only speak for me on the matter, but rest asure, that I mean only the best. All I have to lose is my reputation. But all I have to lose is my reputation... Call me a Fool!

No problem Azadhel, everything’s cool! Happy Elf Smilie

I knew that you weren’t intentionally trying to be offensive, or hurt anyone’s feelings, but I just had to point out that the way your post came across could be interpreted by some as being offensive (really just the fools remark).

It’s really easy sometimes to come across the wrong way when posting something because you’re not there face to face with a person (or persons) for them to actually see exactly what you mean, and sometimes things just sound different in a post then what was actually intended. Believe me I know, because it’s happened to me before too.

It’s perfectly alright for all of us to have a different opinion on something (perfectly healthy in fact), but when our opinions differ here we need to remember at all times to respect each others opinions, and to treat each other with kindness and consideration even if we don’t agree.

Thank you for taking the time to clarify your remarks though Az! I think it speaks well of yourself, and illustrates exactly what you said, that your intentions are good! Glad to have you at PT amigo, we need more voices from your part of the World!
Elf Winking Smilie
I think the same way. We need more voices from this part of the world. Imagine trying to have a decent conversation about Middle-Earth over here. No one gets it. I even tryed to start my own Community over here in Guatemala, and asked for council. I wrote to the Tolkien Community in England, but all they said was to keep it up and reach the Community near me, which I guess its probably in Mexico city or something. Anywho, after trying to answer a couple of questions on the trivia thread, I see that I know nothing compared to the lore domained by you guys. Still, I consider my self a devoted fan, a true follower, and a shatzi on Tolkien related themes (here at least).
It'll be exciting to see the extended edition of Return of The King. I hope PJ did the scenes he left out well and that it'll make the movie feel more complete. Smile Smilie
All I wanted to see in the movies was my favorite chapter in the whole World: The Voice of Saruman.
I’m with you on this one, lets just hope he’s with us as well.

(For the ones just tunning in, "The Voice of Saruman" is not in the movies... yet!)

At least Vee gets it. At least.
Here’s an interesting little snippet that I came across today from and exclusive interview TORN just did with Matt Lasorsa, New Line Home Entertainment’s senior vice president of marketing. The little bit I quoted here pertains to something a few of us were discussing in this thread.

Quote:
Q (TORN): Finally, there are many rumors about a mega-special edition ’Trilogy Box.’ Is there any truth to the rumor?

A (M.L.): It is certainly something that we talk about creating in the future, but right now we are just concentrating on releasing The Return of the King Theatrical DVD and Extended DVD versions this year. If we do release a ’Trilogy Box,’ it is at least 2 years away ’ 2006 or beyond. We would want to have Peter Jackson’s participation, and he will be busy with other projects for at least a year or more. We also would want to make it really special, with never-before-seen content, and, until The Return of the King extended DVD is finished, we won’t be in a position to evaluate what materials are still available.

So there it is!
Elf Smilie
I was a bit miffed to find that after buying the 4 disc special editions of Fellowship and TT to find that the British Board of Classifications didnt allow for the easter eggs available on both editions sold here in the UK because they would have to change their classifications.....Im talking about Gollum and the MTV Awards/Spoofs.....its available in the American editions but not the British editions which I think is just cruel!! So, I think I shall but the American editions from Play where I normally buy my dvd's etc from as Id love to see these easter eggs!
Super Wow Smilie Another two years?!?!
[Sigh] Well, it’s worth the waiting.
Just don’t rub it in my face (I know some of you are feeling the urges).
Can you sense the mood changes I was talkig about? Shhh.... can you feel them?

No one will rub it in your face Az, we try our best not to resort to that type of behavior here. I merely posted that information for those who seek it!
Elf Smilie
I just checked on Amazon.com and they say the really do not have a date for ROTK to be released. So I guess I answered my own question. I really do hope that they come out before November this time.
