Our new Poll was submitted by Cloveress. - Thanks Tricksy Pixie Happy Elf Smilie

What would be your ideal Christmas present?

I chose the Naugliam’r, because it also contained a Silmaril.
Oh what a great pollSmile Smilie Since I already have the One Ring in both gold and silver and the Evenstar ...and a VERY KIND HUSBANDHappy Elf Smilie I would like to have the Palantir to see what you guys are doing all over the planetSmile Smilie
I want Sting, so he can sing "Every step you take" and "Message in a bottle" for me all day!
Oh Vir Big Laugh Smilie Behave and be serious will you ?
It was tough, y'know. I really wanted that Lothlorien-made cloak. It could come in handy when I need to hide from my parents or from that annoying math teacher who keeps on looking at me, as if urging me to spit out every boring answer. But then I also wanted that flask of miruvor, just for the sake of drinking something that was described so wonderfully. I mean, I love alcohol, well not all alcohol, but wine I like, only due to some obvious reasons, I am denied the taste of it. But I'm sure no one has heard of miruvor, so the police can't do anything about that, can they? And then I saw the bouquet of elanors. Well, of course, I would like to have that, being a plant-loving fairy. Who wouldn't want sojme exotic flowers decorating their desk or windowsill? Wait, I take that rhetorical quesiton back. I know of some people who might find elanors distasteful.

But anyways, in the end I chose the miruvor. Wine beckons, my friends.

Phew. I didn't think voting in my own poll would be that hard, but heck! It is hard!

How old are you, again? No wonder you've stopped growing and stayed as tiny as a fairy..

O tempora, o mores!
Heh heh...

Well i chose the Silmarill.. I could have chosen the Nauglamir like Grondy, but i wanted it in its pure form.. I picked it because it would be unbelivable to hold something that has The Light in it..The Light that came from the great Trees..created by Yavanna herself, a Valar... and also, something that was forged by Feanor, perhaps the mightiest of the Eldar..

That's really a nice one, Vir! But I'll hope for Police Smilie Let's have Sting's band; it's unfortunately not The Band!!
I cannot believe you said that about Sting. Until this very second, being new here and having read quantities of your posts, I thought you are very very serious. Now I am sure I must be mistaken as to your age too. Sad Smilie Maybe I am like Emma and never knew it. Smile Smilie

I chose Lady Arwen's pendant. It just called to me and I could think of nothing else no matter how wonderful. But then I am an elf and already own a cape so it was just the right thing to go with it I suppose.

Leelee, you've just gotta see some of the posts in Website Disucussions. I mean, in the book-related discussions, everyone is serious, but really, when it's not about the books, we tend to loosen up and get more friendly and less scholarly.
It is rather amusing to me to be reading thread after thread and 'hear' such deep and absorbing things and then someone says the most hilarious or strangest thing and because I don't know you I cannot tell if it is still supposed to be serious and just sounds really funny to me, or you all are the best at tongue in cheek or you are all split personalities!
I read on one t hread where some girl, I think it was a girl said Loss was so 'dreamy' Totally shocked me, I don't know why Smile SmilieAnd your posts are really amazing if I might say so Cloveress!
I am SO GLAD I cam e here.
Back on topic- I think it would be too intoxicating to have Sting. I could not handle all that shouting, fighting, ringing in the ears and testosterone in the air coming forth from it when even looking at it. I feel safer and more at home with the pendant. Smile Smilie
I choose to have a Simaril.... Hey grondy what if it was the Nauglamir before it was joined with a Simaril. Before i made my choice that definitly crossed my mind. Wink Smilie

Actually, I didn't even think about that when I made up the poll, but I think I thought of it subconsciously as the Nauglamir Felagund recieved. However, since it was not specified, you guys are all free to take it as whichever Nauglamir you wish. Sorry for the confusion!
Its tough to choose between A Palantir and A bag of Mithril because as much as I would like to keep an eye on things, if the bag of mithril was to be very large, I would definitely go for the mithril.

The flowers would be best if you were also a plant-preserving fairy! Elf With a Big Grin Smilie

Two questions: 1) If you are denied the taste of it, how do you know you like it?
2) How old are you if you can't have alchohal?
Alcoholic Smilie Shocked Smilie Alcoholic Smilie Lol!

The cloak would be cool. Miruvor and the flowers wouldn't last for a long time. Anduril and Sting are neat, but someone else already has them.
I'd hope for the palantir, that way no matter where I would be, I could always see my friends and family, and other people, whenever I want. And considering how the media keep back a lot of information, and sometimes lie, I could look and see what was really happening.
And if other people had palantirs, we could talk anytime. Why don't you look me up when you get your's, Mellon. Lol!! Wink Smilie
I got up at 4:00 A.M. Central Time, and, as you can see, I'm in a very humorous mood! Jumping Flame Smilie Juggling Smilie

Maybe, but you'd never know who'd be spying on your conversation..

I sure will Happy Elf Smilie It would be fun ,but as Vir says:

BIG BROTHER SEE YOU
The Nauglamir crossed my mind at first, but as the Silmaril out of it is currently with Earendil, somewhere in the sky, it would not have its fabled center-piece. Also, the Nauglamir didn't seem to bring anyone who owned it anything but ill-fortune (although without the Silmaril that curse is probably broken).

Something kept bringing me back to the Ring of Barahir. I'm not much of a ring person, and I never wear one, but I chose this ring above all the other choices. I think it is because that ring is steeped in so much history (again, most of its owners seemed to suffer a bit of bad luck), but for most of what went on in Middle Earth from the First Age onwards, that ring was there. Also, as rings go, it is a good looking one.

Oh you are too much of a momma's boy, Urion. Are you telling me that you've never broken the rules before?

And Val, it is great to see you back. I'm glad you chose the Ring of Barahir. I love it myself (sort of because my favourite character is Finrod Felagund), but I decided not to choose it, because, well, I don't think it really could belong to me. It's got too much history behind it and I feel like it's destined for people as great and noble as Aragorn or Finrod Felagund, not for an ordinary girl like me (unless they chose to give it to me). That's why I stuck to the miruvor and elanors and the cloak, because they're objects you can claim without feeling like they belong in someone else's hands.

Still, it's great to see some history-loving people here!

Oh, sure I have. As regards alchohal, I've had a bit of blackberry champagne before. And just getting on PT I'm breaking an rule: never talk to strangers.
You guys aren't really strangers anymore, but my mom doesn't know that and wouldn't think that either. Elk Grinning Smilie
Mellon, your avatar is gone.
You can tell your mom that this site is family friendly, hence she should not worry about any lions, tigers, bears and Oh My!!...

Thanks... but I've not really been gone... Lack of time means I tend to hover more in the background than I used to, but I'm generally still around even if I don't get a lot of time to post anymore.

I think that is the reason I went for it. That item, more than any other, would mean you were part of the history of Middle Earth. When I think of that ring, I think of all the adventures all of its owners went through. With the exception of the Turin adventures, there are not many tales in the silmarillion or LotR in which that ring wasn't there somewhere in the background. Also, I like that it had an unassuming role. It wasn't a powerful weapon like other rings or swords, but just changed hands from one hero to the next with barely a mention at times.

Ever since I found it cropping up through history in one tale or another, it has been my favourite Middle Earth item.

I agree 100% with you Val, I chose The Ring of Barahir for more or less the same reason. It had no special power, although it would be amazing to become invisible or have a video conversation webcam from USA to England (by that I mean a Palantir), but TROB was indeed passed through hero to hero. Although I would love to have Sting and Anduril with a small golden ring, but one can only choose one in a poll.......
Hey, something I just thought of, I think the One Ring would be an awesome thing to get, and then give up freely, because then I could go to Valinor. That would be pretty cool.
Depends to whom you would give up the Ring: Sauron, Nazgul, Boromir, Gollum, or Orodruin. Then you must also undergo torture by knife, sting and tooth in order to be invited temporarily to the undying lands towards recuperation.
Funny, I actually thought Fionwe's idea rather gallant at first...

Giving it up to Sauron would be the the way to go, legally. After all, he was the rightful owner.

After that, when the fiend would start to get antisocial again and killing everybody, we'd just need another divine intervention - either the host of Vanyar & Teleri or Tulkas Astaldo and/or Orom’ himself mopping up those Mordorks (one mighty call of Valaroma would already send every inhabitant of Mordor, including Sauron, fleeing in anguish).

The problem was not exactly the One Ring, anyway, it was that the Free Peoples of Middle-earth did not have enough troops against the hordes of Uruks, Olog-hai and Easterlings, making a military victory over Sauron impossible. Remember that Sauron was defeated in arms 3,000 years before the War of the Ring, even when he had his One Ring, his One Helmet, his One Codpiece and his One Battlehammer.

Another factor was of course that few high blood of N’menor was left at the end of the Third Age, due to the mingling with the blood of Men of the Twilight, although this was probably compensated by the fact that whilst the ppl of Gondor became lesser in stature, the Men of the Twilight (primarily the Rohirrim) became bigger in stature. Look at how the ’orlingas mopped the Pelennor Fields, for instance.

Anyhow, help from the West would not have been that irrational ’nd if N’menor wouldn't have sunken and Valinor never removed from the Circles of the World, then indeed this is what would have happened. Sauron would never have stood a chance, even.

But alas... Men are weak... this is the reason why Women should be the ones in positions of power (Finland & Iceland don't have the lowest crime rate in the world for nothing! And no, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with their low population densities).

What hero wouldn't want to die in a battle against a Dark Queen Galadriel, for instance, instead of a blackened, terrible Dark Lord?

Really, why do all those Dark Lords and their minions have to be so ugly? Supposedly this is because they are mocking the Creation, but in reality this is just because they can't do any better. They're all incompetent twits, doomed to failure no matter what they try to do for good always reigns.

But I guess one has to admire them for trying... as much as one should admire an amateur trying to beat Lennox Lewis in boxing.
Andurils and Stings? Why are people so obsessed with violence? Tut tut!!

I chose the cloak. I think It'd look 'different' if I wear it out these days Wink Smilie
Well, a Silmaril wouldn't be that bad either. Though I reckon it would attract too much bats (and fairies) at night, and we wouldn't want that now, would we?
Cloak, Cloak -- definitely the Lorien-made cloak!

It would be quite practical for me: One, I am constantly wishing to be alone, or wishing that I could disappear more effectively. Two, I'm usually cold (slow metabolism, I think). Three, well, wouldn't it be cool to have something made by elves? And since I neither wish to be consumed nor filled with power nor do I know how to weild a sword, nor do I care much for alcohol, etc., etc..... This one was a no-brainer.

***bows towards Cloveress***
Thank you, but what's with the "at first"?
that poll was hard to decide!I would like to have the one ring, and some Miruvor or an Elvish cloak to help me hide...But most of all I'd like to have the ring of Barahir.
The "at first" was before I read Grondy's post.

And oh yes! Another one who loves Barahir's Ring! I am actually suprised to see that there is no definite winner in this poll. I thought that about 50% would be going for either the Evenstar pendant (because there are a LOT of A&A fans out there!), the One Ring (who doesn't want power?) or a Silmaril (though fewer people have read the Silmarillion, a Silmaril was an important icon in the First Age). I never expected everyone to be going for Anduril...but then, I guess I underestimated the population of movie-freaks we have in here.
Being a lover of shiny, shiny things I just had to go for the Silmaril. Santa will be in trouble if I don't get one.

I'll have the other stuff for my birthday.

I gave the Arwen pendent to my daughter for Christmas a couple years ago; I was quite impressed with its quality, as well as that of the other LotR movie facsimiles I've bought.
