This poll was suggested by T’rin Turambar - Thanks Turin. However, it is my fault if any of your favorites were omitted; there is room for only so many names and Tolkien skimped on the number of his female characters.

I'm having a hard time deciding. I want to say T’rin he's one of my favourite characters, but to actually walk in his shoes is a whole other story, in fact he's the last person I'd probably want to be... I'd pick Luthien because i always wanted to be a girl! Ok just kidding there, Beren seems to jump out at me but Fingolfin is right next to him, probably because they both defied Morgoth more than the others. Of course it'd be great to be known as one of the greatest so Feanor is right up on my list too..

Well, I'd never choose to be an Elf because immortality sucks; it's hard to choose amongst the greatest heroes of the Atani, but I'd go for H’rin.
Cutting 70 trolls into umpteen chunks and scorning Morgoth himself and laughing in his blackened, scarred face in his lair, humiliating the self-proclaimed "King of Arda" is simply delightful.
Tuor & Beren are illustrious too, but both became too uxorious in the end, both haplessly trapped in the steel web of a callipygian enchantress. The same goes for E’rendil.
T’rin is a bit too gloomy, even for my liking.
Elendil & Isild’r aren't really comparable to the heroes of the First Age, imo.

Ya I always had a soft spot for H’rin too, without him there would be no T’rin, and he was probably the greatest warrior that the Edain could offer, T’rin a close 2nd I'd say though. You could put H’rin right up there with Fingolfin and Beren for openly defying MOrgoth to his face.

I agree with Vir when he mentions immortality, living forever might get a tad old, but i could probably handle it a lot better with all those fine lady elves never growing old on me.

L’thien, not Beren. Beren cowered under Morgoth's crown whilst the Lady defied Morgoth.
It takes a woman to do a man's job.
But of course, it was Beren who had to cut the Silmaril from Morgoth's crown. L’thien couldn't dirty her hands now, could she? Leave the dirty handwork to the men.
Come to think of it, Beren was lucky L’thien didn't dump him for cowardice, Four Feathers-style. Guess that happened because the alternative -the minstrel Daeron- was nothing to write home about either.

Fine lady elves?! You can compare living in the Undying Lands with living in a Barbiehouse for ever. So shiny, so glossy, so utterly insipid.
I take a Shieldmaiden of Rohan any day. That is, if she wouldn't cut me in half upon touching her.
I'm torn between Luthien and Earendil. Earendil always inspires me because he was bold enough to go where no man had gone before (please no Star Trek theme here

Seeing the evening star and knowing it is him with the burning silmaril on his brow makes any bad day better for me and is one of the most beautiful of sights. A good reminder of the mercy of Iluvatar, too.

She, being phyisically weaker than her masculine contemporaries also defied Morgoth to his face and it was out of love for Beren, not pride or bravado or anger. The picture I get in my mind of Luthien singing bravely before the evil one, knowing well all the horrible things he could have done to her, is about the best part of the Silmarillion to me. I don't think I could live up to Luthien.

I picked Beren..he's the ultimate epic hero. He stands against overwhelming odds, gets the girl, becomes famous and dies happy.. Of course, that's just the short version.

No, that's Tour. one of the four Troll Chiefs, else it accidently got run through my spellchecker and was corrected; thus it is now spelled incorrectly.
I can't correct it without losing all prior votes.Well I finally decided to choose Tuor because of the grand tour of his lifetime. He was a very honorable Man who did Ulmo's bidding. He got to marry an elven princess and may even have made it to Valinor before he died.

I choose Beren in the end, sorry T’rin. Beren's chapter had it's ups and downs and he accomplished great deeds plus it ended much happier.

That Tuor "was numbered among the elder race" implies he"was counted amongst the Elves" in my humble opinion. Though, how it could be sung in after days' when he came no more in any tale or song seems to be a contradiction. So I suppose that is where the "may" comes in.
I'd rather like to be Finrod Felagund. He kept up his word though he knew it would lead to his death in the end. He courted death when Beren who he had sworn to protect. His love was in Valinor, long-distance relations :-P
He does not betray his kin though they have done him much harm(Feanorians to Thingol, even when questioned by Thingol).He is my favourite character and I'd have liked to be in his shoes, the noblest and the most beloved of the elves.
