Hello I'm new in the lord of the rings fan world but know im obsessed with lotr. I was for some days ago surfing on the net and i discovered that the old icelandic viking runes are nearly the same as the Dwarf runes. I just wanted to tell someone about it.

In The Hobbit JRRT used runes 'similar to, but not identical, with the runes of Anglo-Saxon inscriptions'.
With respect to the Germanic Runic Alphabet Tolkien commented that the English gave it its most elaborate development. And, explaining the runes in The Lord of the Rings:
'The similarity of shapes is inevitable in alphabets devised primarily for cutting or scratching on wood and so made of lines directly or diagonally across the grain.' JRRT, 1963 Letters
