For those of you who are interested, I've just launched my website.... It's basically just a site about myself and where I work really, as a practice for one I've been asked to design at work.

So, if you like boats, or just want to see what Val looks like now he hasn't got any hair (gulp), have a peek.

http://www.freewebs.com/valedhelgwath/index.htm

And, I'd like to give Taz a big thankyou for hosting it for me, and for all the help he has given me over the past few months while I've been constructing it.

Great site Val, but the pictures in your galleries refuse to enlarge.

I've been told one of the problems with MS FrontPage is it sometimes plays up with certain browsers. Are you using something other than Internet Explorer, Peredhil?

The only bit that doesn't seem to be working is the hit counter.

Great job, Val!
In honour of the launch of your new website I am posting my 1000th post here.

Wow! Your website is great. I especially enjoy the picture galleries.
Congratulations on your site. I am now inspired to get at creating mine. Big Smile Smilie
ps: you look good with hair and sans hair.
Val, I love your site. I loved the galleries. You look great even as Nell said sans hair. Everything seemed to work for me. Congratulations for getting it up and running. Good luck on getting the one for work done.
Great site, Val. May I suggest a guestbook so that we can all sign it?

I loved the pics too. Only funny thing was that if you looked at the enlargements in a certain order, you could really distort peoples looks as they changed over. But that is a minor problem or maybe not even a problem. Eveything else seemed to work great.

(Just curious, did you cut all your hair off in one go? That must have been quite a shock to the system!)

Great site. Well done. Big Smile Smilie
You sport a mighty fine tash in one of those pictures! Tongue Smilie
Nice site Val, stinking hippy! heh...

One gripe, the black text is a git to read on the dark bits of the background, matbe a lighter colour? (I always get this problem, so I gave up using background images, but that's no reason for you to.)

It came off in two stages really. When I got an interview for where I now work I had about 15 years growth chopped down to about 2 inches. That was a real shock and didn't take my hood off for about two weeks.

A few weeks later, while out on a week's patrol, I realised even 2 inches was too long when it was constantly getting soaked in sea water. Consequently, I gave a pair of scissors to one of the other lads and told him to hack it all off. Apart from shearing it back once a month, I now find it pretty maintenance free, which is useful where I work.

Well done Nell. Welcome to the club.

I've tried keeping the text away from the darker bits of the background, but I think FrontPage reacts differently to different browsers. On my screen the text is well clear of those areas.... I guess on some PCs it is extending into the darker areas.
Nice site Val! sounds like a fun job! I wanna come!!!!!!
Hey Val, great site Big Smile Smilie

I love the name - Nathanial, i'm gonna put it in my list of names

Until I manage to set the pages centered properly (which I don't know how to do yet), the pages need scrolling to the right. To the right of the pictures in the gallery there should be a small > key which should let you scroll through the rest of the pictures.
Cool site Val but don't worry about selling out. I had to get the chop as well. It happens to all great men.
Once again good job
Val, your site is great! I can see all the pictures in the gallery, everything is working great. Big Smile Smilie
Very cool Val, sounds like everything worked out well Smile Smilie The new boat looks good, not like a lemon at all..... Orc With Thumbs Up Smilie
I'm so glad I finally could see what Vals avatar was suppose to be! I knew there was a person in there but I couldn not see it, it all looked like a huge orange larva to me! Big Laugh Smilie

No offence to Val, it was my eyes that didn't work. I can see it clearly now. Wink Smilie
You've added more stuff.
For those of you who are interested in boats, fisheries, marine biology, or just want to have a nose at what I do at work, I have finally got our work's website online. As we are closely linked to the Wash and North Norfolk European Marine Site, the two websites are joined under one address. Eastern Sea Fisheries, where I work, is the top link.

I hope you find it interesting.

Cool site Val (wow, I actually know your real name now)! I really enjoyed checking it out, and finding out a little bit more about you. Great looking kid you’ve got there, you should be very proud! Thanks for sharing a little bit of your personal life with us all here at PT. I’m glad that your new job is going so well, I remember you were a little nervous when you first started. Anyway congrats on the site, and congrats on your job, it looks like life is treating you well! I’ll be sure to check in with your site from time to time, and as always, I look forward to ’seeing’ you around on PT. Cheers,

J.O. (Elfstone)

For those of you who are interested, I have finally got around to remaking a personal website after the old one became lost somewhere in cyberspace. It still needs a bit of work doing to it, and is limited in size because I have used a free host, but it's a start.

Valedhelgwath

Hope you enjoy

No, not all.

Wiggle Smilie
Maybe I'll get up my own site one day.

Then again, maybe not.
If any of you are interested, a BBC film crew made a short documentary about myself and my skipper a short while ago. The resulting program is called Living the Sea, and will be shown on BBC1 at 7.30pm on Friday 4th August.
Neat Val, any chance of their archiving it for viewing online? I can't quite pick up their signal here on the Left Coast of North America.
I've updated my fan fiction site with a few new stories that I have written recently. For those who are interested, see...

Oh Val ..You write so beautiful... when I read : A Soldier's Tale it brought tears into my eyes ..thanks for sharing it with meSmile SmilieI also like your page with the candles..it makes me want to read the stories
I quite agree. Val writes some of the best fiction I have read. I look forward to the day he finally publishes his own books. I will buy and treasure all of those!
:Blushes: Thanks... I'm pleased you enjoy them.

I did hear last week that the girl who is typing the hard copy of the manuscript of my novel into Word for me, is making quite good progress. Unfortunately, I wrote it back in 1996-7, before I had a PC, so there is only a hard copy in existance. I did scan a third of it into Word before my scanner died, but then a girl from work volunteered to type it manually for me. That's going to cost a big bunch of flowers and a huge box of chocolates when she's done - it's over 500 pages.
Can you give us a hint on what it's about?
It's basically a fantasy story based loosely around the politics you see in Middle Earth, but based in the equivalent of what would be Umbar. In other words, it's similar to a sea-based fantasy/pirate genre, but as assassins and dark priesthoods are also involved, it is also touching on horror. It is centered around a group of main characters who have been raised on the "bad" side, and who's views reflect that. Gradually, as the story evolves, however, they come to question the foundation of their beliefs and eventually end up fighting their former homeland.

In "feel" it was influenced a bit by Clive Barker, so I'd probably recommend a 15 certificate on it.
