Luthien79, I really like your artwork, the texture of your animal's fur and hair is so lifelike. My favorite is 'Luthien and Huan'.

I took one look through that cut in the woods, heard the pounding hoofs of those black steeds bearing down on me, and knew I wanted out of there.
The subdued color and the textures make it look spooky; while the light on the trail behind the riders highlights the rest of the scene, making it appear darker in contrast, without the need for blacks, through which we wouldn't be able to see the action.

The subdued colour gives the impression of night without the picture being too dark because the eye cannot see colour at night unless it is emitted as light itself. A slight blue also helps although there is very little blue in this picture.
