Almi’n!

Nice to meet you all and to look around the Planet Tolkien site.

Howdy and welcome; enjoy your stay. Always room for one more. I'm afraid that's really all I can say, as my knowledge of Quenya (it IS Quenya, right? Please?) is horrid. My knack for languages has never been more than adequate with study.
Hello and welcome to PTSmile Smilie SHARE and ENJOY !!Cool Avatar

Actually to answer your comment Morambar, the first line is Quenya and the second line is Sindarin and essentially both say
Well met, my name is Laur’findo.

and also:
M’ra aur’ (good day - Quenya)
Almi’n (to good fortune - Quenya)

Hannon le mellyn n’n. (thank you my friends - Sindarin) It is good to be here. Big Smile Smilie

Welcome to the club. Is that a male or female Elfy in your avatar?

Thank you Grondmaster, I have. Wink Smilie
Virumor - male elf avatar. Thanks it's good to be here.
Elrose - Ah ha, Tolkien was working with the beautiful and romantic languages of Spain and Italy.

Thank you for the greetings!
Wow do I feel out of place. Sadly enough I don't know any other languages but my own. I pray it won't remain that way..

But greetings otherwise. I can tell you will fit in here.

Caud.
Don't feel bad Caud! I took French and Spanish for two years each, but not using it in any capacity the language is easily lost - as it has been for me. Knowing a few phrases in Quenya and Sindarin is not like knowing the language fluently. You could learn what I know with little effort. Big Smile Smilie

Thank you for the greeting.
Welcome, Laur’findo!

I, too, learnt German and French at school but never used them enough to keep any knowledge of them.

It is a negative result of English being such a widely used language that many of us Brits lack the drive to learn another language. I hang my head in shame.
No need to hang your head Vee! Just think - if the whole world knew one language WELL, we could speak and be understood by everyone and it would leave no misunderstandings! Big Smile Smilie
But where would the flavor of life, and the romance of a foreign language come in if we all spoke english. In my opinion english is rather dry and unadorned. Now I sound like I know several languages. But it is only my listening to other languages and other's opinions that I base my opinion.
I guess it sounded as if I was suggesting that English should be spoken. Any language that we all can speak together would be great, not necessarily English. I don't see this happening though, it's just a dream. Wink Smilie
Mae govannen, Laur’findo. Welcome to our world!! Waving Hello Smilie
Speaking of languages, I heard that someone is writing a "spanglish" dictionary. A spanish/english language is kinda interesting, don't you think? But anyways, welcome!
Welcome and more welcome, my golden haired friend! I envy your understanding of tongues most vehemently I think you should watch out I don't poison it in one of the RP threads. Very Big Grin Smilie

But seriously, I am impressed. I mean, I can't even learn French well, let alone Sindarin or Quenya. I agree that it is very convenient to have English as an international language (sortta like what Greek and Latin were before), especially since I speak it!

The idea of a Spanglish dictionary is interesting, but what is it, really? Just a plain Spanish-English English-Spanish dictionary? Or is it some sort of mixed slang that consists of both Spanish and English? I know that when people say "Chinglish" they mean a mixed form of Chinese and English, and when they say Fringlish, it's French and English and so on.

People should all learn to speak the language of love.
I second that wholeheartedly: let's all learn the language of Love!!! Making Out Smilie

BTW, I wish I was as advanced as you even in knowing a few useful phrases in both Quenya and Sindarin, Laur’findo. As it is, I got no further than recognising them!
Language of Love? Geez...looks like Mir's just been tipped off his senses today! Sadistic, meddlesome, Mir... Never have thought you had a romantic side to you, man... Well, at least you're coming to our world now.
Welkome to our big happy familly,Laurefindo. It is nice to see new people(like me)joining our company!Hope you have a great time!See you at the treads!

They say even monkeys given enough time and a typewriter can write a novel like War and Peace. Animated Wink Smilie You have several words of Quenya, Sindarin, Italian and Spanish in your gibberish! Big Smile Smilie I did not say I knew what you said but that Tolkien had been working with Italian and Spanish in his early linguistic studies.
