Hi to all!

I am new here. Hope everyone are keeping well?
Just wondering if by any chance?! If anyone knows who is going to do the Casting for the Hobbit? I have been asking and looking like a nut case with no results. Hope that someone can help and hope to hear from someone soon.

I don't think there is an official casting director, but I believe that Del Toro, Jackson, Walsh, and all of them, have been consulting each other a lot about it.

Andy Serkis- Gollum

ricy tomlinson :lol: -Thorin Oakenshield
Hugo Weaving- Elrond
Richard E Grant- Thranduil

I think Liam Neeson would be brilliant as Smaug but Christopher Lee would be just as good (though it might be weird hearing his voice as we already know him as Saruman lol)

In the second movie when Bilbo and co get captured by Thranduil, they should have a scene with Legolas (played by Orlando Bloom) or at least sneak him into a shot or two.
I'm actually having second thoughts. Jeremy Irons would be really good in my opinion. You'll get a great example of him about five minutes fifteen seconds in here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiSXmbSl ... re=related
this would be my cast

Bilbo Baggins = Martin Freeman
Gandalf = Ian McKellen
Elrond = Hugo Weaving
Bard = Gary Oldman - maybe Gerard Butler
Thranduil = Jason Isaacs or Bill Nighy
Gollum = Andy Serkis
King of the Eagles = David Bowie
Smaug = Alan Rickman
The Goblin King = Ian McNeice or Kenneth Cranham
Beorn = Ron Perlman

Dwarves

Thorin Oakenshield = Brian Blessed
Gloin = Brendan Gleeson
Oin = Richard Ridings
Balin = Ray Winstone
Dwalin = Tch’ky Karyo
Bifur = David Thewlis
Bofur = Timothy Spall
Bombur = Robbie Coltrane
Dori = Colm Meaney
Nori = Jamie Foreman
Ori = unknown
Kili = Nick Frost
Fili = Jack Black
What about this guy from 13th Warrior to play Beorn. I'm not sure if he can even speak english however

There's so much excitement about who will play Bilbo, but I am also curious about who would play some other important parts. I would love to see David Tennant as Bard. David Tennant can play dark, moody characters, and has the energy for such a heroic part. He might also be good for the king of the woodland elves.

I love the idea of Alan Rickman doing Smaug's voice! Has anyone thought of Ron Pearlman as Beorn?

Has anyone heard any news on when we are going to get definite casting news?

Lucy
Welcome to the forum Lucysynk :mrgreen: .

As far as we know there has been no confirmed casting beyond Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis, returning as Gandalf and Gollum respectively.

Regarding David Tennant, he certainly is brilliant, but don't you think he might be a bit youngish to play Thranduil (if that's who you meant). Now Bard is a possibility...Hmmm! I'll have to think about that one a bit.

Rickman is definitely a favourite for Smaug among many members of the forum (including myself). And a number of people have suggested Perlman as Beorn (see some of the above posts).

[b:hhqoxdwz]GB[/b:hhqoxdwz]
Don't forget Hugo Weaving as Elrond[/url:1clvnayh].
Oh yes, thanks Eldorion, I believe Hugo Weaving is also confirmed to return.

[b:37vok6pd]GB[/b:37vok6pd]
I [i:lim0z4lk]know[/i:lim0z4lk] he is. (See the link in my last post.)
I know I previously set Hans Matheson up as Bard. But now I'm thinking of Thranduil. He could do that balance between ethereal, gracious and sinister, no sweat:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/zhi ... s/yury.jpg

And of course Ron Perlman as Beorn has crossed my mind! If that's what Del Toro's reserving him for I won't shed a tear. But I would prefer it if he did Thorin.
I'm really not that sure, when it comes thinking about actors to play characters (although I have some ideas about Bilbo Baggins), especially dwarves because of the way they are filmed, John Rhys Davies was the last person I'd of expected to play Gimli because of his height. I really liked the fact that in the LotR, the actors were somewhat less known (same goes for the Chonicals of Narnia). I just hope Jackson and Del toro pick the right people (of course I have alot of faith in them but...you know :lol: ). Can't wait to see Gandalf as Ian again, he really fits that role perfectly, same goes for Holm, really hope its someone good.

Just a thought because I know everyone will [i:3anv8lf0]agree[/i:3anv8lf0], but do you think that John Rhys Davies could pass as Gloin with a Grey Beard and Wrinklier skin?

Just Joking :lol: that would definately be terrible!
I think John Ryse-Davies would be great as Gloin, except for one thing- he got quite allergic to latex as Gimli. (In some scenes his eyes are almost swollen shut!) So even if they asked him, I'd be surprised if he was willing to go through that again.

It's a good thing I don't pull my hair out when I'm frustrated, or I'd be bald right now! I realize they want to wait till the last minute to announce who will be Bilbo, but couldn't they please throw us a few carrots with the names of actors playing other characters? Goodness, it has been several [b:2rdss440]months[/b:2rdss440] since the announcement for Bilbo was supposed to be "immanent"! Arrg!

Lucy
Lucy, I feel your pain. I've posted questions on other topics about WHEN they were going to announce who bilbo would be. But considering they're still in the script writing stage, I don't think we'll know until December or January, or maybe even Feburary! GOOD GRIEF!!! Not all of us are as patient as elves!
I did suggest Mr Davies in the Legolas thread. (At least, I think it was the Legolas thread, can't be sure, awhile back now). Good to see someone else on the forum is thinking seriously (?) about him too! I think he'd be excellent.

Odo
Tis funny that you should mention John Rhys Davies and him not wanting to go through the process of being latex-afied to play the part of Gimli again, considering Davies has just recently said that he would prefer not to be asked to play the part again. I always did feel sorry for him when I listened to the commentary on the EE and heard him talk about his skin reactions to the glue and makeup, and how he almost never left his trailer. :cry:
I think it's cool they were actually asking him if he'd consider returning as Gloin 8-) . It shows that DT and PJ are definitely thinking along the same lines as many of us. Good call Odo and Lucysynk.

[b:3a5kyxva]GB[/b:3a5kyxva]
indeed GB, it makes me feel kind of special because they asked him to be in the movie, like they ARE looking at the forums and what WE think...
I know this is completely out of left field...and possibly insane...but I just had a thought (always a dangerous thing).

What about Gary Oldman as Bilbo Baggins????

I know he is usually cast as some insane baddie, and not the typical choice.

However, if you look at his face, there can be a kind of earnest simplicity to it. And he looks short! I could just imagine him sitting in the twilight outside Bag End, puffing his pipe.
If he hadn't just brilliantly played a very low-key Commissioner Gordon in the last two Batman films, I would have said that was insane :lol: . Even his turn as Sirius Black in the Potter films plays on his Dark Side. But since he played Gordon I could actually see him as a laid back Hobbit type. Very interesting PK 8-) .

[b:6zr9ob7z]GB[/b:6zr9ob7z]
This is probably so far out of left field it's right field, but what about him playing Beren? Sirius done less mad might work? Certainly would make a ragged Ranger sort. Sorry, wrong thread...

Odo
Or maybe as (I know this is a bad character) the mayor of Lake Town. Or maybe someone else. ANd I had NO idea he was Serious Black!!!!!! Wow he looks different as Gordon!
I just watched a DVD of the Dr. Who episode "The Next Doctor". David Morrisey plays the title role. I liked him quite a bit, and physically he seems the right build to play Bilbo. Seems a few other people may have mentioned him as a possibility too. Any thoughts?

Lucy
I haven't seen that episode of Dr Who so I'll have to google him.

[b:1c8xwjyc]GB[/b:1c8xwjyc]
Hey guys,
I just read about the casting.
Is that an open casting? Or do anybody knows is there any chance to get in just as extras? Actually I look like a hobbit, but yet I'm not a professional actor although I'm studying it.
good job.
Tristan, as far as I know extras are only being selected from New Zealand. If you live there you'd want to see about getting in touch with one of PJ's studios I imagine (their information should be easily found through Google). Otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck, as are most of us. If you're looking to audition as a regular actor there are auditions happening in a number of places around the world, though I have no idea how to contact them.

You can always stick around here and speculate with us though!
Is there any truth to the rumour circulating that they'll be using heavyset women as dwarf body-doubles (under the makeup and dwarf-garb) for the wide shots in the movie? Sounds silly to me. Surely shorter-statured guys could do that just as well. As I heard it, Del Toro is trying to find ways to have more females in the movie without changing the text too much.

Actually it sounds to me suspiciously like some dumbo is just loosing red herrings. Why would they? If it is true, I think it's Affirmative Action gone crazy (not that it ever was sane).

Odo

NB Should I have put this on the Feminist thread?

I can't say I've heard that one before.... :? TORN had a report a few days ago that casting is happening for one female role, but for all we know it could just be voice-acting. The author of the article on TORN speculated that one of the 13 dwarves might be made female, perhaps that's the source of the rumor.

We don't know who the as-yet unknown actress will be playing yet.
We just don't know what to expect next? An illicit romance between Bilbo and Galadriel?

Odo
That actually makes me wonder ... is Galadriel the one female role they're casting? Or is Cate Blanchett a given but they are actively looking for someone else?
I've never been sure what a mind does when it boggles, but I fear my mind is boggling!

Eegad!

Odo
Your mind has been flabbergasted! :shock:

*loves Google definition search*
I have heard that Rowan Akinson (Mr Bean) will be playing Bolbo, he's a very natural physically animated actor. I think he'll do great.
That was an April Fools Joke . It's not happening. But welcome to the forum Cornelius :mrgreen: .

[b:33brmtdj]GB[/b:33brmtdj]
Hi! Here is the most important list for me :roll:
Ian McKellen- Gandalf
Andy Serkis- Gollum
Michael Hurst - Bilbo Baggins
Hugo Weaving - Elrond
Oh! And I agree with Alan Rickman as a voice of Smaug!!! That would be nice!
Hi Ladyadagio, I think you're right about Michael Hurst, he has a certain Hobbit aura about him, although my judgement of him is only based on the pictures that Google presented me! :lol: I can't remember seeing him before, what are his preferences in terms of the roles he chooses to play, do you know?

I agree that Alan Rickman might fit the part but his voice is very nasal orientated if you know what I mean, so I'm not sure.

[b:2g07u3x1][u:2g07u3x1]Joseph Dwarf[/u:2g07u3x1][/b:2g07u3x1] as was [u:2g07u3x1][b:2g07u3x1]B'arelyn Dwarf[/b:2g07u3x1][/u:2g07u3x1]
I mostly remember Michael Hurst from Sam Raimi's TV productions of Hercules and Xena. He played Iolaus, Hercules' buddy. I think he would be a good fit for Bilbo.

[b:1cio94r8]GB[/b:1cio94r8]
You are in luck ladyadagio since three of your four important actors have already been confirmed as coming back. :mrgreen: Bilbo is the only one who hasn't.

I can't say I've ever heard of Michale Hurst myself.
I just saw the movie "Love Actually" (great movie!) with martin freeman in it, and he'd be a perfect bilbo! he has that corky energeticness about him, but also the shy quiet hobbityness too.
Wait a minute, I love that movie. But I don't remember Martin Freeman in it :? . Who did he play?

[b:3qsw3qln]Merry[/color:3qsw3qln] Christmas[/color:3qsw3qln][/b:3qsw3qln]
