Just about everyone is going to see the film and go "oh look, there's Hermione as an elf!" Don't believe me? Look at all the "Cedric turned into a vampire" jokes after Robert Pattinson started in Twilight.[/quote:3rhmle67]

I agree with you lad!!!
and as emma has already said... she doesn't want to be an actress yes! so forget her as Itaril guys...
First post here so, hi there...

I believe the cast to be one, if not the most, important thing for TH, even above the LOtRized vs Fairy Tale delivery...

In LOtR , PJ got most of the actors to materialize the idea I had of them, I've been reading the book for 30 years now.

Ian McKellen
Sean Bean
Hugo Weaving
Sean Astin
Viggo Mortensen
Cate Blanchett
Christopher Lee
Ian Holm
Karl Urban
John Rhys-Davies
John Noble
or
Brad Dourif
All of them just great.

even, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom and Liv Tyler, did very well.

On the down side, I didn't like:
Marton Csokas as Celeborn and Miranda Otto as Eowyn
and the only one I strongly dislike was David Wenham as Faramir.

That said, I just hope that no super known actor like Tobey Maguire plays Bilbo (Though I'd choose Tobey if he wouldn't have played Spiderman ).

Jason Isaacs as Thranduil would be great...and Olivia Wilde (Thirteen on Dr House) looks "elvish" in my mind, for that role of the elven female...
First post here so, hi there...[/quote:c75p3886]

Welcome to the forum.

I agree for most the part that the LotR cast were great. Even when I didn't like the characters, it was primarily due to the writing rather than the actor. However:

[quote:c75p3886]even, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom and Liv Tyler, did very well.[/quote:c75p3886]

I thought Orlando Bloom was okay given the writing (I can't blame him for having to say "A diversion"Wink Smilie, but I didn't like Elijah Wood or Liv Tyler (and yes, I know she's hot, but that doesn't make her a good actress anymore than it does for Megan Fox). Both Wood and Tyler were very wooden and unexpressive, and that really ruined their performances for me. I have no idea if they're able to act in other movies, but for EW especially it was painful to watch the unchanging facial expressions, especially with PJ's fondness for facial close-ups.

[quote:c75p3886]On the down side, I didn't like:
Marton Csokas as Celeborn and Miranda Otto as Eowyn

Celeborn was ... underwhelming, to say the least. I thought Otto and Wenham did alright though considering the material they were given to work with.
Elijah Wood and Liv Tyler WOODEN??????????????? I'm shocked I tell ya.........shocked  . I don't see how Elijah or Liv could have been any more expressive :P . And Elijah's accent was so perfect, I forgot he was American (it helped that I had forgotten a lot of his child actor roles to begin with ), besides which, he was just as I always imagined Frodo. And Liv was more than hot, she WAS Arwen. Yes, Celeborn was a bore, but he didn't have a part anyway, so it didn't really make a difference. Bloom was more than Okay, Legolas was his best role to date.

And welcome to the forum indeed Von Salza  . I agree, Olivia Wilde would be an awesome Elf Lass too.

[b:3kydn7nw]GB[/b:3kydn7nw]
I don't see how Elijah or Liv could have been any more expressive :P .[/quote:1stt2wa2]

Elijah Wood was great at taking a wide range of facial expressions, but not at changing them within a scene. I was shocked at just how pronounced it was when I rewatced FOTR lately: his face [i:1stt2wa2]did not change[/i:1stt2wa2] and he just stared at people. This was especially noticeable in the scenes with the Ring and Bilbo in Rivendell and Boromir on the mountain.

Liv Tyler wasn't as bad, and it may just have been an 'Elfy' sereneness and distance.

[quote:1stt2wa2]he was just as I always imagined Frodo.[/quote:1stt2wa2]

I thought he was way too young. EW was about 18 years old, and Frodo was physically ~33.

[quote:1stt2wa2]And Liv was more than hot, she WAS Arwen.[/quote:1stt2wa2]

Could you explain?

[quote:1stt2wa2]Bloom was more than Okay, Legolas was his best role to date.[/quote:1stt2wa2]

I liked him better as Will Turner in PotC: TCotBP
What's there to explain, Eldo, LIV WAS ARWEN[/color:216y1aw2]!

The only problem I had really was with the very first scene with Aragorn, which was poor because of the Shield-maid angle, I think, not so much her acting. And the ford scene was just plain silly and melodramatic - for she hardly knew the hobbit!!! Some of the writing for her later was not great either, but for all that she played the role [i:216y1aw2]beautifully [/i:216y1aw2](and beautifully in more ways than one  ).

Oh Eldo, you have the eyes of a cave-bat and the soul of a pitch-fork! (I hadn't noticed before! :o )
And Liv was more than hot, she WAS Arwen.

Could you explain?[/quote:216y1aw2]

My goodness, you're possibly thicker than two slabs of concrete stuck together with a thicker than usual layer of gloopy cement, Eldo! (I mean it kindly, of course....)
i thought E Wood played Frodo very well. Only actor i didnt like was the troll. thought his acting was very wooden
Seriously couldnt fault anyone
Yes, that troll did not seem real at all.
What's there to explain, Eldo, LIV WAS ARWEN[/color:2olkkgil]![/quote:2olkkgil]

Her parents and everyone she grew up knowing, in fact everyone she ever met before being cast in LotR, might be rather puzzled about that. /sarcasm In any event I surmise that you do not mean this literally, but I'm not sure what you mean by it. I could hazard a guess or two, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.
Well, Eldo, both my very close bosom pal GB and I obviously think Liv was perfect in the role! Oh Liv... (And where the frigfram is that damn 'sigh' Smilie? - I'm sure I saw it somewhere???)

NB Would you like me to get GB to draw you a picture? (I'm not much of an artist myself. Mine would have to be all stick figures, I'm afraid  )

Edit: And please don't roll your eyes! It's very childish!
Elijah Wood and Liv Tyler WOODEN??????????????? I'm shocked I tell ya.........shocked  . I don't see how Elijah or Liv could have been any more expressive :P . [b:3gw6buiu]GB[/b:3gw6buiu][/quote:3gw6buiu]

But I think Elijah Wood was awful...because of his bad acting I hate frodo character...someone said that David Wenham was bad...NO!!!!
I loved him so much...he wasn't very handsome but he played his role very good!!and Liv Tyler was nice but...she was...I don't know the English word for that
Olivia Wilde is GREAT!!!yup...she is sooooooooo NICE...I should talk to Mr.Deltoro about her... you know...I always give him my advises...
Olivia can be a good elf...she can be Itaril!
Liv Tyler was nice but...she was...I don't know the English word for that [/quote:1zhwbg0y]

The word I think you're seeking Lady Greenleaf is [i:1zhwbg0y]"scrumptious"[/i:1zhwbg0y]!
@ Legolas Greenleaf

I didn't say David Wenham performed badly or is a bad actor, I just don't like him as Faramir...
In the book I prefer Faramir over Boromir, in fact Faramir is one of my favorite Tolkien characters, but in the movie David pales when compared to Sean Bean and John Noble.
Sean Bean and Sean Astin deliver IMO the most accomplished performances in LOtR...

Anyway, glad we agree on Olivia...

No...I meant very romantic that made me sick...aughhhhhhhhh and very slow and...

To VonSalza :
Ok..I've got it!

Have you guys heard anything about Richard Armitage as Thranduil? if you visit "the one ring" website you can see the list...
I think he's too young!
There is a lot of blogs and forums talking about Richard in TH but to play Bard not Thranduil...

Isaacs for Thranduil, we need someone at Hugo Weaving's level...
But I think Elijah Wood was awful...because of his bad acting I hate frodo character...someone said that David Wenham was bad...NO!!!![/quote:1eyx6h85]

We seem to agree about a lot in this thread.
Sean Bean and Sean Astin deliver IMO the most accomplished performances in LOtR...[/quote:103ofnn0]

I agree, especially for Sean Bean. I would list Ian McKellen as well except that I only really liked him in FotR; after he became the White I wasn't as fond of the actor or the character.
Have you guys heard anything about Richard Armitage as Thranduil? if you visit "the one ring" website you can see the list...

I can't find this list on TORn, but I looked him up on IMDb and I agree. I still want Isaacs.
By the way, welcome to the forum VonSalza! If I may say so without being patronizing, it's great to see you jumping into a lot of discussions so soon.
@ Eldorin

Thanks
I've lurking for a while now, so you all seem very familiar, as are the treads, I red most of them...
Things have been to the slow side at work, so I had the time to post something coherent, or so I hope...
I lurk on most of the boards I frequent, but I'm glad you decided to sign up and start posting. I hope you have time to come back later as well.

yes...I agree with you again...
Hope to learn a lot and have a great experience here!
my regards guys!
Welcome YeagerTaggart! Feel free to stop by the New Members forum or just jump straight into any one of our discussions. See you around!
Gerald Butler = awesomeness! GB and Eldorion thanks for agreeing with me I thought was gonna get eaten alive lol!

I really hope Itaril (sp?) is just a rumour especially if they cut characters like Beorn. Why introduce new characters? Why fix it if its not broken? Im a female and I don't care if there is no femine element in the hobbit! Are they so worried about offending feminists or what..? Blah...
Don't worry Fimbrethil, we don't eat people (or Entwives) here. As it is I happen agree with both of your points.
Ya right...Perhaps giant cats ate all the Entwives and thats why they are missing!
Tevildo from the Book of Lost Tales (the original villain for Beren and Luthien, preceding Sauron) did it! Yup, not me.
Were Entwives flesh and blood, or wood and phloem? It's an important detail to know. Cats don't eat vegetation, you see, Fimbrethil. Otherwise, your theory is as good as anyone's.

Btw a walking tree was sighted in the Shire once. An Entwife, pray tell? Was that what Tolkien was hinting at?*

(*See my The Hobwit on Fanfic site. It's all there revealed!** 8-) No cats mentioned though...)

(**Am I [i:57wszh04]Spamming[/i:57wszh04] here, GB? :? )
The Entwives weren't as tree-like as the Ents; they were more fond of agricultural fields than wild woods. What their physical bodies were made of is anyone's guess, though.
Not[i:jjyq7wri] flesh and blood [/i:jjyq7wri]though I bet!

(Btw, there is an Australian kid's book called [i:jjyq7wri]The Muddle Headed Wombat [/i:jjyq7wri]in which there is a cat whose favorite [i:jjyq7wri]fruit[/i:jjyq7wri] is fish! Try it, Eldo. I think you'll especially love the cat! The book's humor is not outrageously in your face, but it certainly tickles the funny bone a lot! At least, it did mine!)
That sounds like my kind of cat. I'll keep an eye open for it.
A quietly amusing, but [i:3grmgimf]genuinely [/i:3grmgimf]amusing book. You MUST get it! Also there's a book called 'Midnite: The Story of A wild Colonial Boy.' There is a fine Siamese Cat in that too. One of my favorite all time books, but little known. Quietly hilarious too! Captain Midnite (it's more Bushranger-like and fierce to spell [i:3grmgimf]midnight[/i:3grmgimf] incorrectly!) is only the titular leader of the Gang. The Siamese Cat is the Real brains behind the outfit - which includes a Delightfully Dopey Cow, a Sheepdog that never stops grinning, a bad tempered Major Mitchell Cockatoo, and a Great Red (Vermillion?) Noble Horse. Only the Cat, however,is smart enough to talk. As stories for children go, Midnite is probably second only in my opinion to The Hobbit - though quite different. Should be better known! [Will someone please come up with a [i:3grmgimf]sigh[/i:3grmgimf] smiley!? :x )
No the cats of middle earth were so large that they used the Entwives as toothpicks! o.0
Hi...and after 500 years I have returned...!!!
is every thing ok???during these years I was thinking about Ralph...thing... I mean voldemort...
what about him as Thranduil???? I think he is a good choice too... :?:
Sorry for my unfortunate absence, the offending Spam Posts have been deleted.

No - keep it! It's just the sort of inanity this Forum needs!
What happened to this thread? :? If only GB were here!
sorry...
but arent there ment to be 13 dwarvs in the hobbit, most people have only put 4 or 5
am i just going mad?? :?
Good point, Elrond. Have you suggestions for actors for some (or all) of the others?
It's a fairly widely-held assumption that only four or five dwarves will actually have developed characters, and that the rest will mainly just be in the background. Given that otherwise they'd have to introduce no fewer than 15 characters in the first few minutes of the film, I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. I hope that the background dwarves get [i:n5cybh4x]some[/i:n5cybh4x] decent attention, though.
I think each dwarve will have his moment. And a scene or two showing insights into their every hope and dream, and some repressed memory stuff, would be a treat, I think. We would get at least three movies that way, and take it away from all that childish [i:1ii963se]book[/i:1ii963se] stuff. Contrastingly, they could, even, I suppose stick to the book. Each dwarve, I think, has a at least one cameo in the book, even if it's just a fist fight over damp tinder-boxes.
It's good to see the Spaminator (Spam-terminator) back in action. 8-)
