Hey guys heard some good news as i live in Wellington NZ that the Hobbit will be kicking off soon in about 8 weeks or so anyone else heard anything else?
I hadn't heard that. The latest filming date I've heard is June 2010, but it's likely to be pushed back even further (depending on how long the budged/green-lighting is delayed). Pre-production has been going on for quite some time, though.

BTW, welcome to the forum!
Yes but heard from my work that its confirmed in 8 weeks they will start building! So we will see aye! cheers.
Start building what? I know they've been working on the Hobbiton sets, are they starting on some of the others now as well?

Well i work in the security industry and work in and around Wellington NZ - But i got told buy my boss yesterday that it's confirmed in about 8 weeks they will be starting too build they just waiting for confirmation for being made in 3D????
They'll be starting to build [b:fklqe7xv]what[/b:fklqe7xv], exactly?

I don't think physical construction has much to do with filming in 3D. In any event, they're at a bit more basic level; the film's budget has to be approved and 'green-lit'.

Ady's latest blog pretty much confirms Iains news Eldo.

Was in the paper again today so its looking good or there is some good signs about the movie
looks like we got us a source! Good work Iain!
I don't really trust these anonymous sources. It's possible its valid (and frankly I would be surprised if the studios let the filmmakers pass by the lucrative 3D market), but there have been too many "our trusted source says...." stories over the past year or two that turned out to be bogus for me to take this one with anything less than a big grain of salt. That said, it coming from a source other than MarketSaw increases its credibility in my eyes. I'm still waiting for an official confirmation, though.
Local sources are often more reliable than others.

Definitely. Perhaps I'm just getting paranoid. :P

Yep I think its nearly confirmed! My boss said 8 weeks too me as i will be doing security for one of the sets i guess so will look forward to it all and can let you guys know how its all going )
Would it be too much/illegal to ask for pictures? :P Seriously though, it's awesome to get news from someone who is right there. Thanks!
That would be awesome if Iain could post a shot or two of the sets in progress. I don't think it's necessarily illegal. Narniaweb was posting reports and photos of [i:1pxqm3sh]Voyage of the Dawn Treader[/i:1pxqm3sh] as local Aussie members of the forum sent them in. Please keep us apprised Iain. It's really cool having our own "Inside Man" on the forum 8-) .

Yep it does sound good i can keep you posted on this forum for news keep your eys pealed I will be working on one of the sets doing security so can let you guys know how its getting on but not too much info tut tut!

It's nice to hear more about the Hobbit Holes, but what really got my attention was this:

[quote:1u1gyr11]But insiders say the film will be shot in 3D, pushing the start date out to October. [/quote:1u1gyr11]

I'm off to the filming date thread in Breaking News!
Hmmmm they should start building other sets in wellington private locations in about 7 weeks or so but not sure what but the film still hasnt got the green light yet until it has then great ! I will be located at one of the private locations.... Jealous much?
They're probably just hedging their bets about MGM, especially since the full financial commitment of production hasn't begun yet. And yes, I am a bit jealous that you'll be at the filming locations. :P
No but they have started some work at Weta Workshop so i heard but not sure what i used to work there as a security guard and was awesome i just hope they get the confirmation very very soon!
Agreed. I have no doubt that once [i:1rx97uh0]someone[/i:1rx97uh0] ends up owning MGM/MGM's assets they will green-light The Hobbit ASAP so they can start raking in tons of money.
I hope so too, but I think that (as TORn reported), it's contingent on the MGM situation be finalized. GB would probably disagree with me, though. :P
It is more usual for the big studios to give the green-light. But when the actual production company is owned by someone with deep pockets and an obsession to match, they will occasionally take the lead with the understanding that a hot property well under way is an enticing prospect for investors.

I've been out of the loop for a while, so could someone tell me if they're casting? with all of this MGM business and what not, has that also been put on hold?
From everything I've heard, casting is still moving forward (though deals can't be signed until MGM settles on a buyer), and sets are being built. (Pre)-production is forging ahead. The only real question is when filming starts (June/July or October  ).

[b:3ta4yqdl]GB[/b:3ta4yqdl]
No sets around wellington yet well the private ones other wise i would have been told about it buy now hopefully very soon though! i know theyare working in weta workshop at the moment which is in Miramar....
I meant the Hobbiton sets which are being rebuilt 8-) .

[b:t8iz9rwe]GB[/b:t8iz9rwe]
GDT has also said that without an official green-light they can't close any deals with actors, so filming will probably continue to be pushed back until MGM is either bought or reorganized somehow. That could take a couple of months. All in all I expect that filming will begin in October (hopefully not any later  ) rather than the Summer.
We really need to start bitching at the MGM board. If they had the cojones, the major shareholders would take the hit and then buy into the company purchasing MGM and make some of their money back.

[b:1qn74mb1]GB[/b:1qn74mb1]
Ya! I'm with GB! Let's start a petition!
Well, I'm kind of hoping it folds altogether. Then perhaps Mr Tyrant could direct and I could do the screenplay. With Mr Tyrant's stubborn desire for Truth and my fanatacism about faithful adaptations, we'd make a fine movie together. Yes ONE movie. Five hours long, yes, but a FINE movie! (I'm already humming tunes ).

Let me see... there would be two intermissions for refreshment/toilet breaks... one as the eagles are flying off above the burning trees. The second when, after a particularly dark and scary and exciting interlude meeting Beorn (and his wonderfully useful animals), traveling though Mirkwood, teasing and fighting spiders, and their capture and escape from the Woodland King, they are welcomed at Lake Town, and the celebrations about rivers running with gold begin...! And then, after another snack and piddle, the last rush to The Lonely Mountain, Smaug, and the Battle of Five Armies... Brilliant! (All right - six and a half hours then!)
If you're not adding extraneous plotlines but still have that much material, why [i:23fyhs11]not[/i:23fyhs11] just split it?
Oh all right - but NO White Council gumph! :x
Certainly not. I'm unsure if one could get enough material for two films from just the story of The Hobbit, but when you're talking about a five or six hour movie, splitting is probably in order.
Two movies at three and a half hours each would give us time to do it properly... mm... good point .... Wouldn't have to rush the somgs.... The Stone Giant sequence could be drawn out nicely and climactically and spectacularly... Not one riddle left out... mmm.... thoughts multiply.... Maybe three movies... but still NO White Council! :x
:P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

[b:1987tef6]GB[/b:1987tef6]
So, at last we're agreed, NO White Council. Are you taking notes, PJ and El Toro? :x
El Toro ... sounds a bit like El Zorro. That would be a cool cameo.
I [i:8tkyomtd]was [/i:8tkyomtd]trying to be seriously grown-up about this, Eldo! (I'm hoping [i:8tkyomtd]certain parties [/i:8tkyomtd]will contact me and ask me to come on board and save their movie! 8-) :ugeek: )
http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/fi ... rning-home
I'm glad to know that Hobbiton hasn't been abandoned as MGM drags on and on ... and on. I suppose someone, somewhere, thinks The Hobbit is a safe enough bet to invest in it already. 8-) It's cool that it's open to the public during construction; I hadn't expected they'd do that. I wish I could visit.
I'm still hoping for the Good News that the movies will be cancelled... 8-) (Maybe give someone else a chance to do them authentically )
Contrary to what other's have said, I wouldn't mind a white council! (don't eat me!) As long as it's not too long. I don't think i'd mind seeing a bit of the debate about Dol Guldur and some foreshadowing of Saruman's later corruption. However if they include this at the expense of other scenes from the book then I'll be a sad sad badger.

Though I read somewhere that Christopher Lee felt he was too old or his health was too poor to travel so maybe it's out of the question anyway. I suppose they could make it work still by filming him at home. It would really be ruined if they cast someone else for Saruman and think we wouldn't notice, better not to have a white council at all then
