And GB convinced me that McKellen was just trying to pressure the studios. As worried as I am about some things with the films, it's a nice feeling for them to have come this far and for things to be much more certain.

Without McKellen keeping the heat on, this thing might have never got off the ground (and Petty would be much, much happier ).

I'm dead serious. 
McKellen has been working as hard as PJ to shove the studios into gear. By confirming his casting long before the films had even been greenlit he set a fire under the studios' arses. I swear, because of McKellen, the studios knew they would have a ****storm of angry Fans rioting outside their headquarters if the didn't eventually get their act together.
And it seems my prediction that eventually WB would take over the rights entirely has apparently come true.
