Monsters were to be seen hurling rocks at each other for fun.
Should make for a great scene in the film (if its in)

I hope he puts that scene in, I always liked that one very much. I am a bit worried about it though, it's a scene I can imagine Jackson will leave out. Then again, he might like it and keep it in. He could really play around with the special effects on that scene

Two ways I see that scene going in the movie- not there at all as it could be construed as not 'fitting' with the LotR tone they seem to be striving for, or just as bad, a CGI fest with the line about the dwarves afraid they might be accedently mistaken for rocks and picked up and hurled becoming an excuse for an over the top life threatening scene that goes on for ages.
The one thing we can be certain we won't get is what is in the book. 
Is it just me, or does chris' screenshot look a lot like LOTR? The background, at least, seems very familiar to me. 
The background is very similar to the one used for Rohan. Particularly the three hunters scenes. No idea if it is or not but a similar landscape of grass and rocky outcrops.

I think it was supposed to be Giants hurling Rocks, not necessarily Rock Monster Giants. 
Besides, they were never seen but heard. It was purely Narrative Speculation that it was Giants hurling rocks causing the Thunder. Still, I think it would be brilliant to include ACTUAL Giants hurling Rocks.

Yes and no. I want them in there but I don't want a ridiculous cg scene that goes on for fifteen minutes to cover what is a line and a half of book. But its PJ so thats probably what we'll get as the Man with No Constraint rides into town once more.
Let's split the difference and give PJ a 7 1/2 minute Boulder Tossing Giant sequence.
