Jackson does not have the legal right to mine Of The Rings Of Power And The Third Age for his films.
Rights to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were sold, but no rights were sold for anything edited and published by Christopher Tolkien.
Well then Galin, that can only mean one thing, PJ will need to make things up, which is a shame indeed.
Anyhow a lot of what is told in Of Rings of Power is actually mentioned within either The Hobbit or TLOTRs so hopefully that will be enough to keep some of us happy.
I, too, cherish Of the Rings of Power. The Second Age of Middle-earth is so intense for me, perhaps all the more because there is less developed text on it. The Third Age is what we have closest, with Aragorn Elessar and the long-awaited delivery and restoration. But I think the enormity of this can best be felt when we are carrying the full weight not only of the post-Numenorean saga, but also the thousands of years prior. Akallabeth tells much of Numenor, also the tale of Erendis and Aldarion and other texts from Unfinished Tales, but what about "meanwhile, back in Middle-earth..."?
These centuries of Sauron's rise and the slow realization of what was really going on, the great smiths of Eregion, the long migration of Galadriel and Celeborn, the stories of the Edain that didn't go to the Land of the Star...
Of the Rings of Power gives us glimpses of all this, wonderful.
Yes Marghana and each time we read it it seems to grow somehow. Its a brief chapter and sums up the true breadth of Frodo's mission beautifully. Also Gandalf and Elrond have some fabulous dialog along with a Saruman, who starts to see cracks in his plan and you can feel the tension, or at least I can, between the two Istari, who must have very different foresight. Elrond comes off as the most wise in my mind in this chapter in more ways than one.
There is simply so much crammed into this chapter and its so readable, I think its my favorite part of the Silmarilion.
Re legals and all that awful stuff Galin. As most of what is mentioned in this last chapter is referenced throughout The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings in some way, Im sure that PJ will find a way of working this back history into the new movies. Its a shame he wont be able to use direct quotes though as some of them are simply wondrous.

I love these quotes, and many more.
